How Not to Flash My Booty When I Stand Up

oh man, i gotta prob. i don't know if my pants are too big, i'm buying the wrong pants or if i just have some messed up body that can't wear pants properly, but when i stand from sitting i have to yank my pants quick or my big ol butt is flashing everyone! case in point, last week i was working, visiting w/one of my clients (i'm a social service worker) and my shirt didn't go to my knees (lol) so it didn't cover my backside when i stood up. i quickly pulled my shirt & jacket down as soon as i stood up, but it was too late. i flashed this 64 yr old man who proceeded to tell me, "you have a beautiful butt".....uh....GROSSS!!! i told my boss about it but was sure to tell her it was really my fault b/c i did accidentally flash him. (it wasn't my whole butt, but you know what i mean)
i have a long torso so i have a hard time finding those tanks that are any longer than my shirts. i have a hard time finding regular shirts that are long enough too.
so aside from wrapping my jacket around my waist (making me feel like a jr high girl who just her period), do y'all have any suggestions? am i the only one w/this prob? i have lost some weight, maybe that's why this happens, but i don't know.
any thoughts would be appreciated. i'm modest i promise. i really do hate this. i don't show cleavage or anything! lol :)

thanks guys! :)

So What Happened?

jackie - it's totally okay to laugh! i post my questions mostly w/humor anyway! :) i guess a belt is the consensus, even though i hate 'em. i don't look for or try to buy the low rise pants. i'm a size 14-16 and cheap (poor, lol) so i just go & buy size 14M, boot cut & go about my day. didn't even think to see if they were low rise or not. i hope the higher waisted ones don't look like mom jeans, i'm only 32, i'm not trying to sport that look now or even when i'm 52, lol. :)
thanks for the ideas! :)

I think we all have that problem :)
I almost always wear a tank top tucked into my jeans. I buy Old Navy Tall shirts and they are wonderful (and really cheap if you get them on sale!) They have a longer torso so they cover better.

have you tried Levi's Jeans? the style i get sits a little higher up, but not too high, and I don't have that problem. I also have a really tall torso!

Buy a higher waisted pant and wear a belt. As a woman with an ample rounded bottom, I can't even entertain low waisted jeans because my butt would break free.

One and Done is right. Buy pants that fit your butt even if the waist is bigger then have them tailored to fit your waist. The extra expense is worth the perfect fit.

I hope this helps afterall it is coming from a woman whose assets are increasing. ;-)

I had to chuckle a little bit. sorry. I don't like that the pants and jeans they make now only come up to your hips. I recently saw on TV something they are selling to prevent this now. Here is the link.

you might consider apple bottom jeans, I've never tried them myself but I've heard they are an excellent fit for girls with badonkadonk backsides (also heard it called a ghetto booty whatever it is I've got one for sure). I personally buy Lee Raiders and I look for the more traditional cut, they sit just below the natural waist AND have a higher rise in the back. I get them at wal-mart in the plus size section (and I'm pretty sure they come in 14-16, you might have to check the women's section though) and they cost about $20 - $25 a pair. I LOVE these jeans.

Try wearing a belt.
My of my pants that are low rise or cut in a certain way just sag down, so when I stand...same thing.

A belt to keep them secure at my waist is my solution.
Doing that today with my skinny jeans. For the life of me, I have no idea how most women keep them in place.

I understand what you are saying, I have a bubble butt, but a small waist. If I wear low rise pants, then I will sometimes flash people. You just have to get jeans that sit at your waist.

I suggest that you go shopping with a friend who's fashion sense you like. Try on several pairs of pants. Not all pants are low rise. I personally like Dockers or a store version of them. They fit and are a little higher waisted. I am built just the opposite of you I have a short torso and long legs ( half of my height is in my legs). I also have a hollow in the small of my back so many pants gap when I sit. I also think a belt is a good idea, so is having them altered to fit.

There is a new clothing item on the market that looks like a tube and is meant to be worn on the bottom half of your torso. It's similar to the thing that clips to your bra straps to cover cleavage but meant to cover your butt. I've seen this advertised on TV, if you look at it carefully in the ads any decent seamstress could make these for you.

You could also learn to sew simple tee shirt type tops and cut them longer. Or learn how to add a piece of coordinating fabric to the bottom of the tops you already own and tucking that in so it doesn't show.

My SD grabs the middle belt loop when she stands up. You can also wear longer shirts. I've taken to wearing mid-rise pants (not mom jeans but not super low riders) and if it doesn't pass the "no flashing rule" test, then I wear a cami tucked into the pants under the shirt or sweater or a longer top. A year or so back I got some long tanks at Target and you can also see if maternity tanks would get you the length you want without being weird. You can also get pants tailored so that the gap in the back is taken in (I have a smaller waist and bigger hips and have done this on some of my work pants).

Re: the hip tee - looks a lot like the belly band to me. You can get them cheaper, but your mileage may vary on how it works for you.

Wear proper clothes. Low cut skirts and pants are just gross and you can find proper clothes out there. They are just harder to find. I can't wait for this very long fad to be done. I've hated how low all these clothes are cut and how short the shirts are for about 10 years already. I've never given into these horrible styles.

You aren't the only one flashing people. I see it all the time. My mother made me some pajama bottoms for Christmas. I told her she could keep them herself because they are low riders. Now she's making a new pair and adding some much needed fabric. :) It sounds like it's time to go through your whole wardrobe and add to it with l longer shirts or replacing most of the bottoms.

"Belly Bands" are what they are called in maternity wear, but now they are matketing them for everyday wear for just that issue you are having - they are a "tube top" for your middle - a tube of stretchy fabric that covers that space between your top and bottom - top edge goes under your shirt, and bottom edge over your waistband. Once on , it just looks like you have the "layered" long t-shirt look. You might not be tall, but wiht along torso, your upper body is "tall" so this might help you too: http://www.tall-women-resource.com/belly-band.html

It is probably the low rise pants fashion. You may be able to find high rise or pants that come all the way up to your waste that require a belt.

I'm pretty sure Liz Claiborne carries a style that would work for you.

Look for mid-rise jeans. Also, it sounds like you may have a smaller waist? That's my situation, so I look for curvy fit jeans. The waist is much smaller, which prevents the huge gap in the waist.

I buy cheap tanks which I make darn sure are long enough and high enough. Lean over to make sure the girls are covered. Squat down and stand up to make sure the crack is covered. Typically I buy the ribbed style tank from Target. They come in a million colors so I just grab a bunch in a variety of colors.

Besides tanks keep me covered when I wear button down shirts since designers can't seem to prevent gaps in those style tops. Also I work with a bunch of men and given even half a breath most will attempt a peak so a tank keeps it all honest. Good luck.

I think you need to go to a store that sells clothes you like in your size and then try one each and every pair of pants they have. Sit, crouch, sit on the floor, etc...and even get up and stand. It sounds to me like you are wearing the wrong size of style for your body. Don't feel bad if you need to go to different stores too.

I would tell you that if you are a size 14-16/XLG or above that some places that have a "plus size" area. it may not a real adult woman plus size line of clothes and they may not fit the bill. They cut some clothes for jr's and some for fuller figures.

Jr clothes are straight up and down with little difference in the hip line and waist. They are for people who have a narrow hip and flat tummy, young women who have not spread out from having pregnancy's and children.

Women's size clothes are a bit fuller in the hips to accommodate the childbearing hips and to make the clothes fit smoother.

I have a full set of hips and a tiny waist. I could never wear 501 button ups. They would slide down my hips and I would constantly be pulling the waist back up. The huge gap between my skin and the waistband was often embarrassing too. They were basically straight up and down and I had curves.

So I found the ladies Lee jeans fit a smaller waist and fuller hip. I was suddenly comfortable in jeans and able to go out dressed similar to everyone else and enjoy the clothes I had on.

Finding if you need a higher smaller waist or a lower hipster style pair of pants would be the pinnacle of the dressing room adventure that day.

Also, pants that do not stretch are more likely to slide down and stay vs a pant the has stretch to it.

I wear basic black polyester pants with a variety of nice tops to work and never have issues of them being not where I need them to be. They have a natural waist, no pleats or gathers to make me look fuller, elastic underneath the waist band but it's not sewn to the outside of the pants. It does not look like an elastic waist but it is secure against my body all the time.

Finding a pant that works is sometimes a miracle in itself. Keep looking and trying on pants until you find "the one" then buy it in several colors and make your work wardrobe a coordinated masterpiece that is interchangeable and comfortable.

Keep in mind that every company uses different factories for their clothing production so each and every garment is made by a different person and it will fit differently. Always try everything on. Always.

Try these stores...Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug or Dots (Cheapest). They all have 3 styles of jeans/pants. Classic cut, Curvy cut, Sexy cut. Each is made for a different body style. I found the right cut for me was the Sexy cut. Suprised me! But they just fit better, look better and feel better on. Also all three stores have a great selection of longer shirts and tanks. Many of the pants come with belts and all 3 have plus size clothing. I love Dots so if you have one near you try there!

ETA: All 3 stores have clothing that is in fashion! Very cute stuff, nothing too Mom about any of them. I am also mid 30's and find great stuff that doesn't look too old for me.
