How Much Weight Did You Gain at 6 Months Pregnant?

So, I am 6 months pregnant and I already gained 18 pounds! I think it is a LOT but I have this horrible cravings at night that if I don't satisfy I can't even fall sleep thinking about them. I was almost 200 pounds with my first pregnancy, and I am barely 5 foot tall!!!! Honestly I couldn't even breath right and I'm trying to avoid that to happen again. But I was just wondering how much weight did you gain by 6 months? Is 18 pounds a lot? I'm already 158 pounds!! I was hoping to be 160 at the most by the end of my pregnancy, but that won't happen now :(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all your responses. I am really trying to eat better but sometimes it is SO hard. It's like the baby it's telling me: More food mommy, more food! LOL! And then I have a friend, that is also pregnant, and she told me that 18 pounds is too much. I know it's a lot, and my cravings are not helping either. All I feel like eating is chocolate, pasta, bread, all the wrong stuff. I have to cut all of those because my blood sugar is not good either :(

I gained 45 and 50 respectively with my pregnancies. I am also only 5'1", so I know what you mean. I think I gained a lot by 6 months...and then just kept gaining!!! Some people gain more in the beginning, some at the end, and those lucky ones like me, the whooooooole time!

Everybody's weight gain is going to be different. As long as the doctor says you're ok and the little bean you're growing is healthy, I wouldn't worry about it.

BTW, Congrats on the pregnancy!

Dear JG, Yes 18 pounds is too much. You should only gain 20-25 per pregnancy and if you are already overweight, then even less, 15 lbs. I gained between 15 and 25 lbs in 6 pregnancies and my smallest baby was 7lb 13oz, the largest, 9lbs, 9oz. Anything over 20lbs stays on you to lose. You need to walk a lot and control the cravings. From what you are saying sounds like you were already about 40lbs overweight before getting pregannt. You can have serious complications being so overweight and going through labor, or having to have the baby delivered early. At 6 months, I had only gained about 7 lbs. The baby will get what it needs from your body. Focus on keeping yourself and the baby healthy. Eating for two is not good for either! Best wishes and God bless!

I LOST weight with all of my kids!

I was HORRIBLY sick with all 3 of my pregnancies...but I stayed active and dealt with it! I would feel horrible before/after/during every meal, basically I was ill ALL the time, but I would puke and move on, puke and move on, puke and move on!

Lots of vitamins and iron supplements "made" my kids!

~I say don't worry about your weight...just focus on eating right and staying active! Whatever will be, will be!
And weird cravings is some of the 'fun' that comes along with growing a baby...enjoy it!

*You are more than half way done and not yet hit 20lbs...I say your doing good sister!

I think the average they want you to gain is like 3-4 a month. 3x6=18 so you are right on track....I gain ALOT with my first four. I was young and ate at every craving, EATING FOR TWO YA KNOW,...Not with my 1yo DD I gain 30 total. I was determined to not gain a bunch this time and I didnt. And I crave bean burritos with cilantro and onions... OMGosh that was so good....mmmm yummy

Usually, with a 2nd pregnancy, a Doc will have specific amounts of weight gain.

For example: with my 1st pregnancy, I gained 25 pounds. I never lost that weight really.
With my 2nd pregnancy, and per my starting weight with THAT pregnancy... my Doctor allowed me to gain only 15 pounds total, for the entire pregnancy. I actually gained only 15 pounds then. BUT I did not have to try nor diet nor hinder my eating in any way. For some reason, I only gained 15 pounds with that pregnancy. But my son was a fully big healthy baby upon birth! Over 8 pounds.
My Doctor, though, is strict....

I am also a short woman... like you. But weigh less.

Your Doctor, should be, gauging your weight and/or any concerns about it.

Per your cravings... what are you craving? Maybe just reduce the amount you eat... and opt for a healthier version of it. So say if you crave ice-cream... maybe opt for low-fat yogurt, instead.
Watch what you eat... but eat healthy....
My Doc as I said was strict.... and he forbid juice even, for example, Because it is just sugar...

all the best,
Susan

With each of my 3 kids I gained about 45 lbs (starting at 135 and ending around 180). It was horrifying to get on the scale, but I didn't look chubby, just really really pregnant at the end. I lost it within 9-10 months just by nursing except the last one, I still have about 8-10 lbs to get rid of to be back at 135.

I think actually with my second I didn't gain quite as much.. and he was 9 lb 7 oz. so I lost a bunch right after I had him.

I'd say you are right on track.

You and I are pregnant Twinkies! I'm 5'2", gained 70 pounds with my first and almost tipped 200 pounds at delivery. I'm 5 and 3/4 months pregnant this time and have gained 14 pounds to date. Doctor says I'm doing fine. 10 pounds is average for the first 4 months and that I was right on track. WHATEVER! It took me 5 years! to lose the 70lbs! I'm still eating sweets and can't seem to stop. GRRR! I don't know what to tell you except that you and your bulging belly are not alone. Enjoy the plumpness, I suppose. : )

I gained 75 lbs during my pregnancy. Not sure exactly how much by 6 months. I know what you mean about not wanting to get over 200, but most falls off after the baby. I wouldn't stress over it if your eating healthy and exercising. Your doctor would tell you if you had gained too much. Congrats on the baby :)

with baby number 1 32 pounds. That was at 23 or 24. With baby number 2 i generally have a much healthier lifestyle and was determined to not gain anywhere near as much weight. I stayed active and really at the end could only eat small amounts at a time. 19 pounds total. At my 6 week check I was below my starting weight. Now i still needed a little more time to get my body back obviously.

I have no idea how much I've gained. I am six months along as well. I was so sick with my first pregancy that I put on 13 pounds total, and gave birth to a 9 lb. 3 oz. baby. I am taking Zofran this time around, and I was worried that since I am not throwing up all the time I would gain a ton of weight. At the same time, I didn't want to spend the pregnancy worried about what the scale said, so I've decided to do everything I can to eat healthy, but I do indulge cravings when I have them. When I go the the doctor's office I step on the scale backwards and the nurse knows that I don't want to hear what she is writing in my chart. If the doctor is concerned at all about my weight gain he will let me know, but otherwise, I am not worrying about it.
I would advise just focusing on having a helathy pregnancy and not getting too caught up in the number on the scale.
Good luck!

I gained about 8-10 lbs by 6 months. I gained 26lbs total with my first and have gained about 18 lbs with this one and I'm 8 months right now. The quickest way to lose the baby weight is to breastfeed!! Really, it burns sooo many calories! With my son I had lost 20 of my 26 lbs when he was 10 days old. I lost the last 6 lbs and an extra 8 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight within a month!!

Congrats on your pregnancy!!

I don't remember exactly what I gained at 6 months but one month I put on 12 pounds. I gained a total of 45 that I know of. I stopped weighing because it was getting to be depressing. Don't worry-- you'll lose it.

I gained apx 20lbs a month because of a medical condition. At 6 mo I weighed nearly 300lbs and had gained over 120lbs at that point. I quite literally, doubled my weight while preggers.

Count your blessings. Skin does NOT recover from gaining over 170lbs, and insurance doesn't pay to fix it.

My doctor wasn't concerned with the number on the scale as long as I wasn't "eating for two". He said to eat healthy for one and the baby would be fine.
