I work p/t from home, and am lucky enought to have our regular highschool baby-sitter available to baby-sit for us this summer. I asked her how much she charges for this, and she replied "Oh, whatever you want to pay me." She did say that she did this last summer for a woman, and she paid her weekly (but she didn't say how much $$). My question is: For those of you who might have an in-home highschool babysitter, what's the going rate? I have two boys ages 2-1/2 and 4, and live in Plano. I will probably have her babysit about 4 hours a day, M-F. Any information would be much appreciated.
I pay ours 2.00 hr per kid. I also give a dollar each way (for drive time) I also will tip extra if my house is left the way I left it. I think my sitter told a friend I payed 7-8 bucks an hour. I dont know if that is too cheap or too much. They always seem to come back!
I am in the Plano area as well. I have regular sitters (16-19yrs old) come at least one night a weekend for date night. I guarantee $60 for the night (usually 7:30 until about midnight, sometimes a little later). I have one 12yr old. If I have to cancel my sitter the day before up until time for her to show, I pay her $40 because she held the night for us and does not deserve to be shortchanged if we have a change of plans. 12 yr old sleepovers, sickness, etc.
When I tag along on travel with hubby for short trips, I pay $150/24hrs plus any other expenses such as transportation, food, activities. We also have pets and she helps take care of them as well. The overnights are covered by a college student who has been sitting for us for about 3 yrs.

I have an inhome daycare and charge $130.00 a week per child. Thats for a full day and meals too, but you are also getting more individualized care and she will be coming to your house. I would ask her what she was paid and then give her more. People tend to pay highschool/college kids less for the same work that an adult would do. She'll be more likely to keep coming back to you and to be really flexible about your schedule if she feels her services are valuable to you. Good luck.

My 19 year old daughter did this last summer for two families. One family only had a single child. However, my daughter was expected to pick him up from various places and take him on outings, to parties, etc. The mom paid for all expenses associated with these outings (excluding gas). My daughter was paid $10/hour. The second family she sat for had between 3 - 5 children at various times during the summer. My daughter stayed at the home and did typical "babysitting". For the three children, she was paid $10/hour and for the 5 she was paid $15/hour.

How far does she have to drive to get to your home?
Gas is really going up these days so if she drives far I would give her a little extra than the normal rate to pay for her gas.
If she is close to your home, I would say about $30 a day for 4 hours.
Mainly because she's watching 2 children and they are still pretty young.
That's great she's able to come to you as well. It can be difficult finding people to come to your home these days.
