I'm in Bartlett, so I'm fairly close to you. I would probably at least pay minimum wage, which is $8. But I've always paid $10 for one kid because I like to keep my babysitters if they're good. So if you pay them a little extra, they'll sit for you instead of someone else who might pay less.

Heck I want to babysit in the neighborhoods these moms are talking about! When I was a Kid and babysitting a "Good" night was getting $20, and now babysitting from my home I charge $2.50 an hour and give a discount for siblings. Seriously ...talk to the person and ask them what they expect, then give a bonus if they do a good job, I always picked up toys and made sure dishes were done etc. Also be sure and set good ground rules regarding phone usage, anyone else over etc. Lots of luck!

There was a question about this the other day. A lot of it depends on your area, the sitter, etc.

We have weekly date nights. When we used sitters, we guaranteed $40 for the night because she saved the date for us. On top of that, we added $10/hour. Date nights were $60-$80 and WELL worth it for mom and dad to stay connected!

My daughter also babysits and the going rate around here (no one "sets" a fee) is about $10/hr. My daughter is 15 now and has been babysitting a couple yrs.....never paid less than $10/hr

A big plus is if the sitter drives to you. The last one we had was a superior student academically and musically and she worked with my honors student daughter. They even worked together in a music competition with sitter on piano and daughter on violin. She was well worth every penny we paid her.

I think the standard for 2 kids is about $10.

wow! i want to babysit those kids! lol. we give our sitter $6.00 an hour. If it's going to be late we will pay a litlle extra, also pay extra if she feeds the children and cleans up the mess. Generally I like to find my house the same way i left it. If you find a good one, hang on to them, sitters grow up as fast as our kis do!

Honestly, offer her $7/hour. That is probably more than she is used to making babysitting, and also guarantee her at least a certain amount of money for an evening out.

When I was her age range, I was making $7/hour, and loved that 1 family offered me the opportunity to make at least $25 no matter if they used me for 3.5 hours or not!

A lot depends on where you live. Where I live, it was expected to be paid at least $10/hr. My co-workers and I, who were all professional preschool teachers and adults (mid20s and older) would charge between 12 and 15 depending on how many kids. Some families in the area actually would pay closer to $18/hr...that obviously wasn't the norm...Since she's in junior high, I would suggest $8/hr. But, ask a mom in your area...it really does make a difference where you live!

I think for the occassional time, $7 or $8 an hour would be good. When I babysat, I got paid for the night so never really had to worry about how much it was per hour. We pay our sitter $10 an hour for 4 kids, though mainly just supervising the older ones, for a couple hours a day.

It depends a lot on where you live. Here in Baltimore the going rate for someone to come to your home is in the $10-$12/hr range (lower end for someone younger & not traveling as far). If the children are going to the sitter's house, its usually around $5/hr for 1 child and an additional $2-$3/hr for additional children.

Ask her parents, I have a friend whose 18 yr old daughter sat for my 2 girls for about 3 hours on a school night, she did a great job and the girls had a blast with her-I gave her $20 and her mom told me that was too much! Partly because she wants to teach her kids not do things just to get paid, but to help people out when they need it.

I do not know where you live, but the standard here for 2 kids is $5 an hour. We had an extra $5 for showing up, so $10 for the first hour and $5 each additional hour.
