I am curious, how muck milk do you pump at each session? Is this before or after you nurse, or as a replacement nursing session?

What can I do next?

I was never able to pump, not even with hospital grade electric pumps. Not when I was "full up" and definitely not after nursing. I would try when the baby skipped a feeding and I was so full I felt like I was going to burst, and it still didn't work even after attempting to express. Expressing didn't work either. The only thing that worked for me was actually nursing.

Hand pumps were a joke.

Babies are the most efficient "pumps." You'll never, ever get as much milk out of you as you will with your baby. No matter what you measure from pumping your baby drinks more than that during a feed.

I think this all depends on each individual woman and each pregnancy and depending on how old the child is. With my first I was a milk factory and at my peak could produce 6-8 ounces per breast and it didn't matter if I had just fed my daughter or not. She was a slow eater and sometimes had to be reminded to eat. With my second he's a bit of a beast when it comes to nursing. At my peak I could only get 3-6 ounces from each breast. But he nursed often and was pretty ferocious about it. I sometimes feel like I am dehydrated because he nurses so much. I also had/have a hard time fitting in pumping sessions.
ETA: Remember that a pump is never as efficient as the child. If you are trying to gauge how much a child is getting at nursing you should try weighing the child before feeding and then again immediately after. Whatever the difference is is what they ate.

Replacement sessions at work - 3.5 oz on average. Although it can vary from 2.5 to 4.0 oz. I manage three sessions per work day.

I made a lot of milk.
Frist pump after feed in the morning 5-6 oz each side.some times more

at work2 sessions.. 3-5 oz each side.

As time went on it went down, but I made more than enough for my kids not to need formula. My choice sine I was working, was to change them to milk at 1 and cease pumping.

Good Luck

This is 10 years later... And the frustration is still THIS fresh:

I was a cow.

My son at a crazy 20oz per average feeding every 2 hours.
I wet nursed for a friend in the hospital

The MOST I could ever pump (before/during/after) was 1-2oz.
The AVERAGE was 1/4 of an ounce.

The lactation consultants tried every machine (from hand held to the Guernsey Special Milk-o-Matic (my supply was so fluid we both wanted me to not HAVE to nurse, as well as donate).

The girls did not agree.

I tried at least once a month on the hospital for 9 month (plus countless efforts at home).

No dice.

Some women can't nurse.
Some women can't pump.

I pumped (bottle-fed the breast milk) exclusively for 14 months with my first child. I drank a lot of water and sometimes drank Mothers' Milk Tea and always seemed to pump just what she needed. I tried to stay ahead of her and just when I'd get a good stockpile in the freezer, she'd have a growth spurt and drink a ton :) When I first started I eeked out a couple of ounces (total) at a time. By the end, I pumped about 40 oz a day.

Well, it's been a while, but when I was pumping for DD at work, I pumped about 3 times a day instead of nursing (mostly) and got about 4-6 oz per session for an average of 12-14 oz per day. Sometimes if I needed a little more I'd pump one side while nursing the other, or pump during one of DD's naps on a weekend.
