I have just began to pump & I am trying to figure out how I should store my milk. Each time I pump, I get a different amount. Sometimes 3oz, sometimes 2oz etc... I don't want to waste any of the milk I pump so I am trying to package the milk in the disposable bags in the amounts my daughter will eat... does anyone know? I would like to hear from you...

I would put 4-6 ozs in the baggies. Every kid is different but u should be safe if u put. 4 ozs. And freeze the milk.

I almost hate to say this but she will eat as much as she wants that day. Don't worry about wasting milk because it will drive you crazy!! The good news is pumped breastmilk will keep at room temp for a few hours if it's not too hot. I wouldn't package more than 4 or 5 ounces however but it's going to change from day to day, feeding to feeding. Just when you think you've got it down, your baby will consume twice the usual or half the usual. The best advice a doctor gave me was to supplement with formula if I needed to and to not over-obsess or over-think the breastfeeding. I supplemented anywhere from 0-4 ounces a day and it was a lifesaver. I breasfed for 4 months and if it weren't for that advice I probably would have given up after a few weeks.

At six weeks my baby was eating about seven times a day and she at 3-4 oz at a time. I was pumping at the time too and I usually kept it in bags of 4-5 oz each and when she started to eat all 4 oz I then changed up to 5-6 ounces in a bag.

the general rule is 100 calories (5 oz) for each Kilo per 24 hours.
So if you baby is 8 lbs that is 3.6 kilo she will eat about 360 Cal all day. Milk is about 20 cal an oz. How much she eats per feed depends on how often she eats.

What works for me - lots of small bags. She probably won't eat less than 3 ounces, and will usually eat 4. I store my milk in 1 ounce, 2 ounce, 3 ounce and 4 ounce bags (with labels.) If she's had a good sleep and not eaten in several hours, I go straight for the 4 ounces, but if it seems like she JUST ate, I might give her 2 ounces. If she's still hungry, I warm up another 1 ounce while I burp her. I hate wasting pumped milk, because I hate pumping.
