How long should a D & C recovery take?

I'm still bleeding more than a week after my d & c. I didn't take more than 1/2 a day to rest, and have been going strong (walking @ Disneyworld everyday) for 5 days, in incredible pain. When I finally started resting and not walking, it went away. I thought I was done, finally. So I walked around a park again, and around 2pm I was flooded with blood--very scary. I stopped walking and the bleeding stopped again.
But after 8 days of this, I still can't walk without bleeding. What do you think is happening?? How long should this take to be OVER??

What can I do next?

Summary

Many women will notice mild cramping for a few days following D&C, as well as spotting or slight bleeding for up to a week. Your next period may be early or late. If you're experiencing discomfort, contact your doctor.

So What Happened?

Basically you are all right. I did not take this recovery seriously. Now, it's move and bleed/cramp, and don't move and it stops. Which is very difficult to deal with because who can sit around not moving, as a mom?! Three times when it stopped, I thought it was over, and got a rude awakening.
I have to force the issue I guess, or else. Doc can't see or talk to me until tomorrow so I promise I'll do the right thing asap. Thanks everybody!

*****WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND I AM FINE. BLEEDING IS OK TO RID THE BODY OF WHAT IT NEEDS TO. I AM GOOD...THANK YOU*****

Hi Teresa..I know you have been through a lot and I am sorry to hear you are having more problems. Having a misscairage is bad enough, and not healing right away is just extending the bad fortune. I feel for you! Please call your GYN and tell them what is happening. You may need more follow up care. This much bleeding makes me worry for you. Rest, rest, rest! Put your feet up, rent some dvd's and just relax. Your body has been through a lot and needs to recover. But please call the doctor. Update us and let us know you are ok! Hang in there!

I had a D & C 5 years ago and have since had 3 children. I found that the rest needed after a D & C is the same as giving a live birth. Your body just had a baby leave and needs time to recover. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you are able to rest and recover soon.

I had a D&C this summer and my doctor told me NO strenuous physical activity for AT LEAST 24 hours and if the bleeding got heavier or persisted I needed to rest and possibly call the doc. You clearly didn't listen to the doctor or your own body. Rest today. I mean REST! Lay on the couch and do NOTHING!!!!! You could call the ER or your doc, if he has on call hours, but they'll probably just tell you to rest. If you're soaking more than one pad per hour or are passing clots, then get straight to the ER NOW!!! Other than that, listen to your body and REST. Still call your doc tomorrow though. He or she really needs to know what's going on with you in case it IS something serious.

did the doc give you neds for the bleeding & pain? if not then you should consult another doc. i've had 3 d/c's. i was given meds with all of them & told that it's just like having a baby as far as your uterus is concerned & you meed to treat your body as if you had. i was told no heavy lifting(nothing more than 5lbs), no sex, & no marathon walking for at least six weeks. and if you bleed heavily, more than one pad an hour to go to the er, also if you spike a fever over 101, have nausea, vomiting, go to the er, it's a sign of infection that can be deadly if not treated. i'm not trying to scare you, just being frank about the reality of it. if you want to talk more, just shoot me an email. i had them done because of miscarriages, and no matter what they say, it doesn't matter how far along you are, the loss is felt just the same, & it leaves an emptiness in you that can swallow you if you let it. God be with you.

You should probably call you doctor and ask them what they think. Your bleeding shouldn't be more than like a normal menstral period.
I hope this helps you!

I think you are overdoing it big time!
The more you keep doing that the longer it will take to recover.
1/2 day of rest obviously is NOT enough.

I would definitely get in to the doctors. I have had them before and never experienced anything like that. You should maybe have postponed the D&C to be after your Disney trip. Call the doc.

I don't know why you originally had a D&C. Most likely it was because of heavy bleeding or you had a miscarriage. You probably have some retained products in the uterus. This is a fairly common problem. Doing a D&C is often a "blind" procedure, in that the doctor does not really see inside the uterus and must relie on feel. He can miss a small amount of material and this will cause continued bleeding. When you rest, the blood is actually just pooling in the uterus and then when you get up and walk, it all spills out. If you are "flooding" this long after your D&C you need to call who ever did the procedure and tell them. You most likely will have to have it done again. You might be still having a pickish show, but definitly not heavy bleeding. Hope this helps.

You probably need to talk to your doc. However, it probably is because you didn't give it enough time before being up and walking so much.

Go to your doctor or to the E.R. immediately. You need to talk to a professional to rule out any complications.
