I've been on the pill for 13 years (I'm in my mid 30's too) and have been trying to get prego since I got off the pill in Oct 07. Anyone had a similar experience ? How long did it take you to get pregnant, does age have alot to do with it ?

I was on the pill for longer than that. I had started it very young for medical reasons. However, it completely messed up my cycles, so if you are cycling regularly now you're halfway there! I don't know if it was a miracle or what but we conceived had my son when I hadn't had a period in almost a year!!! I was 33. With my second child it took 8 months of trying. I had her at 35. I highly suggest charting. I used www.fertilityfriend.com I also used Preseed the month we conceived her. Good luck. Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions. I know how frustrating it can be!

Hi K.-

I'm 33, have one child, and we are trying to conceive #2 since October 2007 too. Still nothing. I've actually gone through fertility treatments via my OB. You might want to go that route and see if Clomid might be an option for you. It didn't work for me, my body did not respond at all to it. I've had irregular cycles all my life. My DD was a surprise so I don't know how long is "normal" to try for me. I hope you get some answers soon. Feel free to PM me if you have further questions! Oh, you also might try ovulation predictor kits and recording your temperature with a BBT. Both tools are great in telling you when it's the best time to try. You may just be missing the egg! Good luck!

I was on the pill for 5 years, I am 25, and it took DH and I 16 months to get pregnant. I had a ink test done on my tubes in the radiology dept. at the hospital, and it turned out that after a surgery, one of my tubes had been blocked, so I was left with only one good one.
My baby was born in Oct. '07, and we know that we want one more, but have no idea how long it will take, so we went ahead and started trying again already.
Have you talked to your doc. about taking clomid? It stimulates ovulation. I was on it for 3 months without luck, but it has over a 50% success rate, and it doesn't cost alot.

I was on the pill 15 years before TTC at age 30. One OB had told me I would probably never conceive if I didn't do it before age 28 because of endometriosis. It took 6 months and I have a beautiful baby girl now. I charted and used the fertility awareness method. I also used Preseed and ovulation strips ordered online (they are much cheaper that way). I learned about the fertility awareness method through a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility.
Good luck and keep trying!

It took me a year to get pregnant with my first. I bought countless ovulation kits and pregnancy tests before we finally got pregnant. It was tough, but hang in there. Go to see your doc. I had PCOS and it made it challenging to get pregnant the first time. Remember that as we get older our chances of having twins increases tremendously! Have fun and keep the faith! It will happen!
