My husband and I have been trying for baby #2 for 5 months now...without success. I got pregnant with my first child 2 weeks after going off the pill. I know that compared to some, 5 months is not very long but I was just wondering if others have experienced this and how long it took you to concieve #2. Thanks

And the general recommendation is that if you are early 30s or younger, try for a year then seek a Reproductive Endocrinologist's (RE) help. Otherwise, seek a specialists help at the 6 months mark. This assumes you have regular periods, etc. Also, checkout your insurance 'cause the procedures that RE's do are covered differently than your regular ones usually.

Good luck!

I highly recommend buying the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Dr. Toni Weschler. I was always able to get pregnant after reading this book. I miscarried six times over 9 years and had to see a specialist to find out why. We are currently pregnant with our first successful baby.

It may take a long time. You may be doing it too often. You may not be doing it at the right times. You may not be ovulating. You may not have enough body fat. Your body may not be creating enough of a lining to support a pregnancy. So, read the book, learn more about yourself (you can't be squeemish with this process) and you may be able to figure out what is going on with you.

If that doesn't work, I highly suggest Dr. James Douglas in Plano, TX. I have been to several OBs and two different fertility Drs. Only Dr. Douglas could get me to where I am today, 5 weeks from delivering a miracle!

Good luck!

Jodi

Hi K.,
My 1st baby took 2 months before I was pregnant and I thought my 2nd baby would be just as quick....however, I didn't get pregnant until 7 months after getting off the pill.

Don't worry about it too much, if after 1 year you're still not pregnant, you may want to talk with your OB-GYN and see if your doc can help.
Most likely, I'm sure you'll get pregnant again soon.

Good luck to you! : )

The first thing I would try is buying an ovulation kit. I had a similar experience and it turns out that I was ovulating a few days later than I thought I should by counting dates. Why not start with this for a couple of months before panicking and going to a fertility doctor?

My husband and I got pregnant right away with our first but we've been working on #2 for a year now - and not randomly, either! I've temped, tracked my chart with opk's and cm and had positive indicators that I was ovulating and that we were "doing it" at the right times. I am seeing a specialist now and we'll see where that goes, but I know that for some women baby #2 is just harder to conceive than baby #1.

If you don't know when you ovulate, take Shannon's suggestion and try some opk's (ClearBlue Easy and First Response are both good - and cheaper at Walmart than the drugstores). You might try speaking with your doctor, too, just to get checked out and make sure there is nothing amiss.

Look up "Secondary Infertility" in google or another search engine and read some of the articles that tell you things to try when you are having difficulty conceiving. I don't mean to imply in any way that you might have secondary infertility (which it what they call it when a couple has a child and then cannot conceive another), but there are many good articles that will guide you to things you can try on your own before consulting a doctor, such as reducing stress, limiting caffeine intake, reducing sugars, etc.

It's frustrating to try month after month with no results... I can remember being at the 5 month point and wondering what we were doing wrong. Just know that for some it takes a little longer, but it's always worth the wait! Hang in there! Shoot me a mesage if you ever just want to talk or would like some of the links to resources that I have accumulated.

Hi Kelie - I got pregnant within 3 months of stopping the pill. My baby's now 3 and we've been trying for a second for over 2 years. (That is extreme, I know - includes miscarriages along the way and other stuff - and I'm now seeing a specialist.)

My doc really recommended that the easiest way to "work" on it was to buy ovulation tests. Specifically, the Clear Blue Easy ones, as she put it "They're clear, they're blue, and they're easy!" I think the cost is about $16 for a box of 7 tests. I would try that for a few months before thinking something may be going on. Good luck! S.

I am right there with you. #1 was literally a honeymoon baby. I also have been TTC #2 for five months now. I have been temping and using OPKs for three months. I use www.fertilityfriend.com which has a small fee after the free trial, but there are other sites out there that are free. You can get cheap OPKs from www.babyhopes.com Good luck to you, and feel free to message me if you need moral support!
