How Long Do Clothes Stay "New" and Best Way to Resell?

Before our final decision not to have any more kids, I purchased extra maternity clothes because of a really good sale. Reasoning that if I didn't end up wearing them, I could resell them(It was such a great sale, I must have had temporary insanity and ended up buying more than a normal person could possibly use). Most of these are not high fashion items- comfortable plain knits appealed to me. They still have the tags, but returning them to the store is not an option.

I couldn't find any resale shops near me that carry maternity clothes, but I did sell a few on ebay. Then I got busier, pushed the rest to the back of the closet, and mostly forgot about them. (I am very bad at finishing projects in general)

If they've been sitting in my closet for at least seven years, would it be dishonest to advertise them on ebay as being "new with tags"? Does fabric wear out over time even if it's just sitting in the closet? Are there any other web sites to sell them through besides ebay?

What can I do next?

When I sell on ebay, I am very honest about how old the clothes are, even if they still have tags on. You can sell them as new, but I would put in the description how old they are and that they were kept in the closet. I've had very good luck selling used maternity clothes on ebay. I notice you live in Round Rock. You could also donate them to the crisis pregnancy center for someone who probably really could use them, and you will feel good about helping others. Most resell shops will not take them unless they are less than 5 years old, and even then you won't get much for them.

I think it's still fair to say they're new with tags. They've never been warn and that's essentially what that phrase means. I'd probably try Craigslist first before eBay. I'd just post pictures and say you got them on a good sale a while back but didn't end up wearing them.

I think you could sell them on Ebay. If you aren't comfortable saying "new with tags", I would maybe say "never worn, with tags".

Also, have you ever gone to the Just Between Friends consignment sales? You can sell maternity stuff there. I don't know how quickly you are needing to get rid of them though...the next sale in your area isn't until September it looks like. You can look it up at www.jbfsale.com.

I sell all my daughters old stuff there twice a year and do very well.

Are there any elementary schools or churches in your area that hold consignment sales? In my daughter's school district, there is a semi-annual clothing resale fundraiser at one of the schools. (One in the fall and one in the spring.) The seller gets 60% of the proceeds and the fundraiser keeps the other 40%. All clothes not sold are either returned to the seller or donated. The seller sets their own prices. You might want to see if there is anything like that where you are. It is less work than having to ship things one at a time and having to worry about PayPal.

I think "new with tags" is fine as long as you disclose that they are from a few seasons ago. Good luck!

Have you tried Craiglist? They are still new with tags IMO but they may be quite outdated with the waist panels on pants. Those have come a long way since by first 9 years ago and my last. Make sure you describe them well.

I think you can sell it "never warn, with tags" but it is not "new".

If you are worried about people confusing "new" with "current" just say "never worn, with tags" :)

Find a "Just Between Friends" sale near you. I'm done with ebay and consignment stores.

I sell about 90% of everything I bring there. Can't recall the exact website but just google "just between friends". Love it.....
