I've had two c-sections in different states. Both times, I was given 4 days in the hospital. I called around for prices and things here in the Boise area, and had a billing girl say that the price only includes 2 days. And then she said, "and if you want an epidural, that costs more." Ha ha, very funny. A c-section without anesthesia? I think NOT!
Anyway, a mom here on MommaSource who is also an L&D nurse says that the stay is 3 days.
I thought 4 was standard, and I believe the nurse over the billing girl, but still, I wonder why it's so different here?
So here's my question, for all c-section mothers. How long did you get to (or will you get to) stay in the hospital?
3 to 4 days was what my insurance covered. But that was a few years ago in Iowa. I stayed 4 days. I believe the standard is 3 days.
I was in the hospital for 7 days, but I know the Norm is 4:)
It has been almost 14 yrs since I have had a c-section, but I remember staying 3 nights (baby was born on a Wed evening, I was home by Sat eveing about the time that baby was born on Wed.) But I seem to also recall the nurses asking me quite often if I had had a BM or passed gas. I guess that if I had done either sooner than 3 days they would have sent me home.

I had my daughter on Wednesday and begged to go home on Friday. Both my daughter and I were fine. Call your insurance company to find out how many days they will cover your hospital stay. It is usually 4 and it depends if your doctor will allow you to go home. If everything is good, then they send you home. Good luck.

Standard is 3 days, although 4 is usually covered. My first doctor felt I needed 4 days. My second doctor wanted to check me out even though I was having a bad reaction to medicine. I was able to stay for the 4th day. This time, in a different state, it was my choice to check out day 3 or 4. It was encouraged that I stay since the baby was still loosing weight. Insurance covered the 4th day in every case for me. I'm not sure how much the total bill was as we only had a co-pay, and the rest was taken care of. I think that most doctors gladly give you 4 days, though, if there is any need for it. (Two preschoolers seemed to count for me for reason. They just looked for something insurance would cover.) The reason I was pushed out the second time was a severe shortage of beds. 22 babies had been born the night before in a hospital that doesn't even handle that many most months! Congratulations! I hope it all goes well!
I cannot believe that an epidural just wouldn't be part of the cost, HELLO??? hee hee.
I went in to be induced on a Monday night, had my son Tuesday via csection due to him not coming well and was home by Friday afternoon.
It was basically three full days at the hospital and I had to BEG to go home then as they wanted me to stay until Saturday.
I wouldn't ask the billing person, but your OBGYN, a lot depends how well it goes, the baby's health and how well you are recovering! :)
