Just wondering how long it took for any of you to get pregnant. And did you find it harder the second time around?

What can I do next?

The first time took 4 long difficult years of waiting, and the second time with help it took three years, but the wait was worth it. One beautiful loving girl, and two very sweet twin boys.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) no one in my family has ever had trouble getting pregnant. We only have the one child, by choice, so I can't help you on the second part of your question.

After being on the pill for 4 years, we got pregnant the first month we tried.

#1 was a fluke. After 7 years w/ no birth control and 6 months of trying, we gave up and got ready to start Clomid. We eneded up pregnant that cycle, LOL! No clomid needed.

For #2 we're going on 13 months. In that time we've had two miscarriages and I took a 3 month break to lose some of the weight I've gained thanks to Clomid.

It took my husband and I 6 very long years to get pg with our miracle baby. I don't care how much chlomid or any of the drugs make a person gain weight or headaches or get sick, in the end it's all worth it if it works. My daughter took us 4 months and it was our last try before stopping, so we are very fortunate that we have our children and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat :)
Good Luck!

my first pregnancy happened the first month of trying, my second pregnancy took two and a half years, fertility specialists didn't help, a natural dr did with suplements, and I lost 6% of my bodyweight, I got pregnant right away after that. (I wasn't overweight to start, just had that extra ten lbs that I didn't want.)

In '82 it didn't take much time at all. Or in '83. My '83 baby will be 25 in August.
My 85 baby wasn't much trying either.

Trying for having a girl...I mean CONSCIOUSLY trying took longer. In 88 I lost and it was a girl. So we did everything about the same the following year and I had my 3rd boy.

And once in a while you don't even try and you still get preggers!

Nancy I don't think there's a system to it. A lot of times when it's a definite agenda and plan, it seems to take longer. The mind can play some games with the body. Consider people trying for years, then adopt because they think they can't have kids, and boom! suddenly they're pregnant. Why? The subconscious stress of wanting to become pregnant is lifted.

All the pre planning and ovulation tests etc take second place to what the body does or how it works. And I tried a very very expensive method of sex selection, even. And IT didn't work. All it did was get my hopes up, and no one needs an emotional roller coaster.

with my first it took about 2 years after getting of the pill to get pregnant, but we were definitely not concentrating on it, i just went off and then when i finally got pregnant it was a nice surprise. my husband and i decided before we had our first that we'd try again when the first was about 6 months old. well, i got pregnant 2 months after giving birth (and i was breastfeeding)! so, i think it's just a matter of nature taking its course. i think if you put too much pressure on yourself or your hubby things just get tense and with couples i've known things just don't usually happen when they're in that frame of mind, they just get disappointed, not pregnant!so, try to r-e-l-a-x!!!
my sister in law tried the ovulation predictor you can buy over the counter, and she got pregnant right away.
good luck!

It took me a few months the second time - do you know how to tell when you ovulate? that is the first step, it's not difficult. there are signs your body is ovulating so you can plan when to try to get pregnant. here is a website I just found, I typed ovulation into yahoo and picked this one, but there I'm sure there are a lot of other good sites too. http://americanpregnancy.org/preventingpregnancy/fertilit...
I would use the cerival mucus method combined with the calendar method, but if you're really dedicated I think using the basal body temp method is helpful too.

I was pregnant with my first child within 4 months of stopping my birth controld. But then again I was 21 at the time. I started trying to get pregnant the second time when I was 30 (second husband) and it took me over 2 years WITH the help of the fertility doctor. I was not only not ovulating but my cervical fluid was acidy and killing everything. Clomid didn't work until they got me up to 250 mg which was giving me horrible headaches where I couldn't even work. So they switched me to Folistim, did one cycle of that and then they found out about my cervical fluid and I was artificially inseminated that cycle as well. I had 6 eggs that were mature at the time and ended up with a beautiful set of triplets. Thank God only 50% took. lol Good luck!

With my daughter, I wasn't particularly trying to get pregnant, we just said we'll see what happens, and after 1 1/2 months of no birth control I was pregnant. Now we are trying for a second child, and I have been off birth control since September, and so far nothing has happened.

First month with my first child and seven months with the second [4 years apart]. I finally resorted to an ovulation predictor kit [OPK] with the second pregnancey since I didn't have the patience for charting. [First positive OPK was a success, though!]

Keep in mind that if you're over 35 fertility doctors suggest seeking medical advice if you can't get pregnant on your own in six months of trying.

Also, studies show that women are more fertile the year immediately following giving birth, which could explain why some women have a quicker time with subsequent pregnancies.

Hi Nancy,

It took me a year to get pregnant with our first. We haven't officially decided to have another one yet, although we both are fairly certain we want another. I'm just a little gun shy to tell you the truth. First pregnancy and L&D was difficult.

Anyway, I have a few friends who found it tougher the second time around to get pregnant. I'm hoping we don't have too many issues... I'm getting old! (35 in a month)

It took us 9 months, and we haven't tried for another yet. I've heard (and friends and family have proved it) that if it takes more than 6 months the first time, it will take less the 2nd time; and if it takes less than 6 months the first time, it will take more than 6 months the 2nd time.

There are 6 1/2 years between my kids. We didn't start trying for number 2 until our first was about 2 years old, but it took some time! We had some fertility testing done, and everything showed up as being fine. We had finally given up and realized it would just be the 3 of us. I gave away all my baby stuff - crib, etc. The next month, I was pregnant. Like a previous respondent said, I think that once the stress of it was eliminated, it just happened. I was disappointed with the amount of time between my kids, but now, I wouldn't have it any other way. My son is 13 and my daughter is almost 7. He is a wonderful big brother to her and she adores him. I have come to realize that things work out just the way they are supposed to. Just accept that there are things that are our of your control, and don't stress out about it. Life will happen for you just the way it is supposed to!

Best of luck!!

I'm pregnant now (18 weeks) with my second child, and it took us almost 2 years ! I was on the pill after having my first and I think that was my mistake! I had problems having periods after getting off the pill years ago before even trying for my 1st and same thing this time. The pill just affects people differently. I will never ever take it again. I went on clomid for 5 months last year, then had a miscarriage in Sept.. Then didn't take anything else (medication) and just planned on maybe talking to a specialist sometime this year and in Feb this year I found out I'm pregnant.. No drugs. However, the fact that I did get pregnant and had a early miscarriage could have helped. I know that sounds weird, but they say that you're pretty fertile after a miscarriage. So maybe the clomid helped me get pregnant, then the early miscarriage helped things along? Not sure, but finally pregnant 2 years later.
Good Luck to you! Hope it happens quick for you

With my first, it took us just over a year. Then we got pregnant with a second 2 months after we had our first. Unfortunately we lost that child. Our third pregnancy happened the first month of trying again. Just remember your body reacts to stress...both yours and your husbands. If he is really stressed at work, they could be effecting his performance. Good luck and try not to worry about it!!!

Howdy -- My first pregnancy, we had planned sex once ... and that was all it took. (which incidently was all it took for both my mother and my sister). Now we are trying for the second one, and I am on my second month of the sexathon. While fun, it is frustrating to see no "fruits of our labor." My girlfriend (an OBGYN) said one shouldn't think anything of it if it takes 3 to 4 months of solid trying. And only then does she recommend a couple hormonal vitamin of sorts for the first year. Best of luck to you (and me!)

I have 2 boys and had no problem getting pregnant right away both times. My eldest sister was age 39 and got pregnant right away and wanted a second one a year later and had no problems again. Typically if you are on the pill it may take longer once your off. Also if you follow NFP it is very easy to determine when you are fertile. Lastly, I have a coworker who was married for 10+ years and was around 40 and never got pregnant (was trying one way or the other), then she gave up trans fats in her diet and next thing you know she gets pregnant and has a beautiful son. She nursed for a year and then within a few months got pregnant again!

Good luck if you plan to start trying.

17 long months!!! We are only on our 1st. I'm hoping the babies to come will be easier. Really though, it was perfect timing for us. I think it had something to do with the fact that I was on the pill for what seems like forever. I was one of the lucky ones who has it in their system for longer than just a few months. At first we were very relaxed about it, then read up on the whole charting and temperature thing, finally I borrowed my friends ovulating monitor (the kind you buy the sticks for) and used that for 4 months and whamo! we got pregnant. I will not go back on birth control.
