I have Mirena on since November of last year, and it's been good...periods going away little by little and gone. But I'm wondering if it still working properly, I just don't want to get pregnant again, and I'm just scared about it. How do you know if Mirena has fallen out? or if is still there? thanks! I appreciate it!!!!!
So, an update...after being scared that I could be pregnant...I just wasn't feeling too good, still I feel like that!...I went to my OB, she couldn't feel it, but at the moment they did a sonogram outside and in, and they saw it, still being placed in the correct place, no pregnancies. But I do have an ovarian cyst on my left side that it seems is leaking, so she explained that I will be feeling a lil bit of pain, but that's it, if worst to come back. So, I'm extremely happy!!! Thank You all for your answers I feel so relieve! LOL!
I have the Mirena too. My OB/GYN has told me that you should every once in while you should be sticking your fingers inside and should be able to feel the string. If you call your OB/GYN they should be able to tell you over the phone without having to make an appt. Good luck!
Well, if you or your partner do not feel the strings you may want to go in. I have had my mirena since July 2007 and love it and had no problems. I have heard only one story where the IUD traveled somewhere it wasnt suppose to and the woman got pregnant. But, you know, it is not 100% only like 99%, so someone somewhere does still get pregnant on this thing. So check and feel for the string.
You should be able to reach inside and feel the string that is attached to the mirena to know that it is still there and in place. If you are really worried, you could just have your doctor check next time you go in for a visit.
You can very carefully check yourself to see if you feel the "string". But don't panic if you don't feel it. Mine was cut very short by the doc (after 3 visits of cutting it shorter!) because my husband could feel it during sex. Just call and make an appt if you want to check for sure, but it shouldn't just "fall out".
Best advice that the midwives gave to me. Basically, check it out yourself. My midwife said to use just one finger and very slowly feel around in a circular motion. You'll feel a thin metal "string" it felt more like a wire to me. I still check once in a while to make sure I'm being as safe as I think I am. Whatever you do, don't pull the string. You don't want to dislodge the IUD.
Hey, glad to see you joined the club :) I remember the gyno telling me to check once a month for the string that hangs from the device. You have to reach, but that is how you know it's there. When my husband and I have sex, he can feel it. It isn't painful, but still it's there.
I've been told by the gyno that you can definetly tell that the device has fallen out because it's a foreign object and you'd be able to feel it pass.
Call your gyno or the nurse for more intense questions - they really should give you that info when you get the device put in.
