How Do I Make My Own Photo Greeting Cards on the Computer?

I have always been very crafty and used to make all my greeting cards by hand. However, with two kids under the age of 3 it's almost impossible to find the time to make them anymore. I have turned to online sites that sell photo greeting cards/announcements that they have designed themselves on the computer. I have always had good luck with these places in the past. Ever since I ordered my first one I have wanted to learn to design them myself. Here's where I need the help....Does anyone know what program in used to create these cards? I have Photoshop and can do very basic designs on there but I wanted to know how and where they get all the graphics they use in their designs? Is there a special Photoshop addition I need to buy? I would love to know if anyone out there has any experience or information pertaining to designing these cards. Thanks so much!

My friend Angela sells Heritage Makers - they have these online cards. Her number is (480 8i12-4654. She may also be able to steer you toward a program if you don't want to buy anything from her.

Hi M.,

I love designing invitations, cards, thank you's, etc. anything on the computer I can. I usually use PowerPoint. I know that might seem strange to some but PP has a lot of functions and graphics. You can copy and paste pictures, add text and then print it on photo paper. They may have special paper at the store that is already pre-folded for cards. I usually just printed and then cut the paper in half for a post-card type.

What I use now for all my cards is a service called Send Out Cards. It's an on-line company that you can order cards from and it actually prints it, stuff it's, put's a stamp on it for you and mails it. You never have to leave your home. And the cards are cheaper than they are at the store. They have over 13,000 pre made cards to choose from or you can create your own. You can add pictures to make it custom and you can even write the card in your own handwriting (you submit a form with your handwriting on it and the company downloads in the computer). It's really cool. You can email me or go to my website for more information. ____@____.com or sendoutcards.com/cmg. I use the service for my business "thank you's" as well as for personal needs (birthdays, anniversary's, congrat's, etc). I can still design like I would with a PowerPoint but I don't have to fuss with anything else, the company does it for me.

Some of the other moms suggested programs, I have never used those but I am sure they work well. What ever fits your needs best.

Take Care,
Hallie

Hi M.,

I am a consultant for Heritage Makers, an online storybooking company. Our software allows you to design your own cards as well as storybooks, calendars, posters, deck of cards, and more! We have over 30,000 pieces of art from ScrapGirls that you can use to design your cards. We also have a template gallery, so if you feel you are not creative (which it sounds like you are) you can choose from the many templates and just insert your photos and add your own text. The software is so easy to use, you'll be amazed. You submit your projects and your cards, storybooks, etc. arrive at your doorstep within 2 weeks (more like a few days for your cards). You can visit my website at www.designastorybook.com or e-mail me at ____@____.com for more information. Thanks!

Hi M.,
I'm a photographer and a digital scrapbooker. I buy most of my graphics from www.designerdigitals.com as well as www.scrapgirls.com. They also provide tutorials on how to do things in photoshop. Once you start digital scraping you will never go back to regular scrapbooking!!! I've tried Heritage Makers but they are so expensive. Once you know your way around photoshop a little bit, you can creat some really cool stuff! Plus having Costco or Sam's Club print your stuff is very cheap. I creat photocards and collages for my clients all the time. After the holidays are over, I've been thinking about starting up a digital scrapbooking club. We could meet up with our laptops and share digital files! If you have any questions about how to do something in photoshop, I'm very knowledgable and would love to help.

Hi...
I am a digital scrapbook designer. Once you go digi with scrapbooking, you won't want to go back to traditional paper scrapping. You will replace the mess & typical supplies with digi-supplies that you can use over and over again. It is so fabulous how you can re-use one piece of paper or a frame, etc over and over again.

This is also the PERFECT time to be interested in this because tomorrow is (Inter)National Digital Scrapbooking Day (DSD) which means freebies and bargains all over our fabulous digi-land.

A team of us are introducing Digital Scrapbooking to AnnTheGran this week. It is a VERY VERY LARGE embroidery site and a very exciting opportunity for us. With the introduction, our team leader, is writing a magnificent blog there for beginners. You can view it here: http://www.annthegran.com/cs/blogs/digital-scrapbooking/a... Our design store will be opening there sometime today.

My other design stores are at GottaPixel (http://www.gottapixel.net/store/manufacturers.php?manufac...) and Scrapdish (http://www.scrapdish.com/store/manufacturers.php?manufact...)

One other super fab resource is www.Digishoptalk.com. Designers and scrappers from a varirty of sites congregate there for the informational forum, layout gallery, product gallery, and so much more.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi M.. I am also a consultant with Heritage Makers. I am having a digital scrapbooking class on November 15th in Chandler, if you'd like to come and learn more about it! Contact me for the details.

You can also check out some of my digital designs on my blog at http://www.mymemorystudio.blogspot.com

Heritage Makers is a great way to get started digi-scrapping, because there is no expensive software to buy. Plus, Heritage Makers partners with www.scrapgirls.com and gives you access to over 30,000 pieces of their artwork!

The class on the 15th is for a Mom's group, so you'll fit right in! I'm also in Gilbert and available for one on one training. We could meet at the Paradise Bakery at San Tan, and do a little training.

Hi M., I have always used www.vistaprint.com for my all my business needs and last year ordered my business and personal christmas cards from them too. They turned out great and the price is very reasonable. I just wanted to wish you luck doing it yourself since I too would like to know what is needed to do so...so I will be watching for other responses to get some ideas too!
