When I took out my daugther's carseat last week, I notice there were two crayons that had melted onto the seat. How do I get this up?

What can I do next?

Go on the Crayola web site. They have suggestions for getting crayons out of everything. Good luck with it!

You need iron and brown paper bag (maybe an extension cord for iron?). Lay paper bag over crayon, run iron over it several times. Crayon should melt into bag. Keep moving bag around to a clean spot so you don't redeposit melted crayon back onto car seat. This worked wonderfully for getting crayon out of the carpet - should work the same for your car.
Good luck!

I have crayon in my car too. So thinks for the question.I've heard of using an iron on a low setting, but have yet to try it. Try Queen of Clean books. You should have it in your local library.

Don't worry about the offended Irish person. People can't sneeze and say God Bless you anymore without offending someone.

Good Luck! J.

(I am assuming you are talking about your car seats, not the child's seat ;))---place a towel on it and with a warm iron, slowly heat the crayon up, it will melt and go into the towel. You can also use a paper bag for this. Goo-gone, I would use it as a last resort, it may stain the seat.
And Bless you for having 2 kids in the same calender year! Mine are all 2 years apart and that is hard enough!!

Freeze the cover and break away all that you can then use De-Solv-it. It's wonderful for crayon, gum, candle wax, adhesives, etc (if you can find it!! Goo-Gone is pretty good for the sticky stuff, but don't know about waxy stuff). I'm sure you've gotten some good advice (didn't look yet!)

P.S. The iron and brown paper (or paper towels or napkin) works pretty well, too. After using any oily product like De-Solv-It, Goo-Gone, Goof-off, WD-40, etc, laundering would be necessary with a degreasing agent (liquid dish [handwashing] detergent, etc).

Hi C.:
I had the same thing happen; I got the iron hot then used a brown paper bag to transfer most of it by placing the bag over the crayon stain and ironing. Here's the bad news, although I got most of it up it still left a stain. Please post if you come up with anything to get rid of the stain. I tried carpet cleaner but it did not work.

Good Luck

ps- I don't see why calling your twins Irish twins is derogatory anyway. Maybe I'm missing what the offensive part is? ;)

Good luck on getting the crayon out.

I had never heard the term Irish twins before, so I google it and found out that it is considered derogatory - but I'm sure you didn't mean it that way.

"The term “Irish twins” is used to describe two children born to the same mother within 12 months of each other or born in the same calendar year. Given that it is a somewhat derogatory term, it is generally not used in print or in polite society. As is the case with many terms with derogatory origins, some people use it without thinking about the implications of the deeper meaning. Learning about the roots of these terms and the meaning behind them can help people to decide whether or not they are appropriate for common use."

"the term pokes fun at the stereotypical fertility of Irish Catholic families, which traditionally do not use birth control. In addition, it implies that the Irish lack the ability to plan ahead or control themselves, having children in quick succession rather than responsibly spacing them. Finally, it suggests that the Irish do not understand the medical definition of twins, which involves two children conceived and born together."

I learned something new. Thanks!

Can you take the cover off of the seat? If so, try putting it in the freezer and then scrape the wax crayon off with a butter knife. Or you could try "Goo Gone" instead (try Walmart or Target, in the laundry aisle). That usually works wonders on waxy, oily, or sticky messes.

Hi C.,
I'm not positive but after you get most of the melted crayon pieces off try Simple Green. It has worked great in our car getting all kinds of things up. Just spray into a damp towel and wipe wipe wipe.

Also you could go to an auto place like auto zone and ask them. Someone from there suggested simple green to us and saved us 100s of dollars in car cleaning bills.

I have heard that if you lay wax paper over the melted crayon and iron it that the wax will transfer to the paper. I have seen it done on carpet and clothing but not car interiors.

If any of the coloring is left, blue Dawn dishsoap will clean the interior of your car. Use the original Dawn but it is great for cleaning!

Best of luck.

Take a paper bag, if you can find one. I guess regular paper would work, though. Place the paper over the wax and heat it with an iron and the heat will of course melt the wax and the paper will absorb it. I have not done this with crayons, but I have cleaned up candle wax out of the carpet and it worked wonderfully.

Hi C.,

Well, I believe I would try to use Goof-Off or WD-40, I firmly believe these products can just about remove any product that is sticky, ooey or gooey. By the way I looked up the term "Irish twins". I don't think you meant this in a derogotory sense, remember most people don't know the meaning of the term, that you have two children born in the same calendar year or within a year, it is like having a set of twins.

Good Luck,
Carol

I wonder if a brown paper bag and an iron would work?
I blew a candle out once and burgundy colored was went all over my carpet. I put a brown paper bag on it and ironed
it with my iron... it melted and the bag absorbed it.
