Hi!
I'm a new stay at home mom after 5 years in the work force as an pediatric OT. After baby #2 8 weeks ago, along with baby #1 who is 20 months old...we are looking to have me stay at home. But we are also looking to supplement income, just wondering where moms who use in home child care got their referrals from? I've always had my son in a chain/corporate child care when we lived in Arizona...so I'm new to the area and new to the parenting resources here.

Just wondering how most moms were able to find their in-home providers...thanks!

S.

Hello S.,
My name is L. and I live in same area. Are you requesting info or looking to take on a child for daycare? I am expecting in December and will need childcare 4 days a week sometime in March. If you're interested let me know. Thank you.

Check out http://TwinCities.BabyZone.com. They have a huge Child Care section and a big Play Groups and Parent Groups section too. I love that site!

the county you reside in should have some info on this. look in the phonebook under your county social services number and ask if they have any referral numbers for child care providers.

I have always used a list provided by the county of licsensed daycare providers. You can go to the Dakota County website to find out about how to become a lic provider. I also have used the Sun Current newspaper. They have daycare listings by city in their classifieds.

Hi there. As far as the in home daycare, sorry but I can't help you out. I'm currently a stay at home mom too, looking to change that as well. But as far as playgroups, I find the ECFE (Early Childhood and Family Education) classes ran through community ed programs is what my daughter and I enjoyed the most. The kids have time to play and a chance to socialize, and the moms have time to talk about mommy issues and ask for advice, or just time to relax, but know that your kids are near by. Good luck to you.

Several that I interviewed, I found in the local city paper (The Sun Current). The one I actually take my son to now, though, I found because her house is near ours and she had a sign hanging on her fence along a fairly busy roadway.

If you are licensed, there is a childcare Referral Line through the Community Action Council Greater Metro Area Daycare association. They will list all licensed daycares, in home or centers, and their openings. I think that once you are licensed, you're kind of automatically listed there, but I'm not sure. If you want to call them to find out how to get listed, the number is ###-###-####.
