Hotels in California...affordable

My husband and I are looking for cheap rooms in California near the ocean. Our 7 and 11 year old daughters managed to get straight A all year long and we would like to treat them to a little mini vacation to the beach. Its all my 7 year old talks about, seeing the ocean. I am starting the search for an affordable hotel, maybe something with a small kitchen in it so we wont have to eat out to make it a little more affordable. If anyone has any ideas on hotels or suggestions on keeping cost down I would love to hear them.

What can I do next?

Hello,
My family and I love to go to San Diego, but it has been a couple of years since we have been able to afford it and find time. We just booked a hotel this past weekend! We are very excited just to go, but also because we got such a deal! The hotel we are staying in is one we have stayed in before, but never this cheap. It is right on Mission Beach and it is a very nice hotel. It is called the Pacific Terrace. On Orbitz.com, it was only $89/night! It said it was a limited offer, so I am not sure if there are any rooms left, but it is worth a shot to look. I am also not sure if that rate is only for certain dates or days of the week (we happen to be going in the middle of the week since we already had that specific week off from work). If that doesn't work out, there is another hotel right on Mission Beach called The Surfer Inn. It is a little more expensive, but we looked it up on a few websites and found it for as low as $118/night. I know they have Jr. Suites with kithcenettes too. Those are just hotels on the actual beach, but there are lots of other affordable hotels within a mile or two of the Mission Beach area. I suggest looking on Hotels.com and Orbitz.com (sometimes Travelocity.com and Expedia.com are good too). Sorry this is so long, but hopefully you can use some of this information. Have fun at the beach!

I'm from Laguna Beach, and there is a little motel in Dana Point Harbor that I don't think is too bad. I think it's called the Marina Inn, and a few of the rooms have kitchens. But truthfully, there aren't a lot of affordable places at the beach that I know of, unless you want to get really trashy. There is also a string of little motels along PCH at Capo Beach. I can't remember all of them, but I think one is a Clarion Inn, they could tell you the names of the others.

Two nice ones are in Encinitas. actually most are nice except the best western. my favorite is Leucadia Inn... its adorable and has little kitchenettes in each of the rooms. short walk or quick ride to the beach.

Very friendly and clean. Good luck

A friend of our has two condos for rent in San Diego. My daughter has stayed there and can attest to their acceptability. Here are the links:

Contact me if you need the owner's phone # or you need to ask my daughter about it.
