Does anyone know of stables that offer lesson for children that is reasonble? My daughters really want lessons but everyone I can find is outrageous!

I don't mind driving for a reasonable rate.

Thanks, K.

What can I do next?

You might want to try calling Rocky Top Ranch in Keller. I don't know what their rates are right now, but a few years ago they were only $25/hour...only about half of what it is at most places. They had both English and Western lessons, as well as therapy riding for disabled children.

The place on Rumfield in NRH, is no longer doing lessons. I took there from Aug. to Oct., when they stopped. It just took too much time for the couple. However, they charged $30/ hour. There is also a place north on Davis, past N Tarrant that advertises lessons. They have a red sign right at their drive way for english & western, I believe. Don't know any details. There is also a riding center on Mt. Gilead, I think, in Keller. And one right on the same strip as the Gaylord Texan in G'vine. Look around in the phone book. There are LOTS of places in the area, prices are a different matter. As for the ages of your girls, my instructor had said 9 was really the best age to start b/c they are big enough to get more involved w/ the horses. I think lesson ages are different from the kids being raised around them. I loved riding, thankfully, we have a friend loaning his horse now & I feet pretty good after 2 months of lessons that I can at least work out on one by myself now. Good Luck!

as I understand it the price to learn on someone elses horse is about $40-$50 per hour per child. Some stables in Plano, Prospering Farms, Merrywind(?) stables, Your best bet for the older children might be a trail ride situation just to see if they like it and they may have a better idea of resources from there.

Are you looking for Western or English lessons? There is a small farm close to my house in NRH and they had been advertising lessons a while back. I'm not sure if they still are. However, I've seen one or two young adults out there having lessons and they were riding Western, so I'm not sure if this farm teaches English riding. I can try to get a number for you if they still have the sign up for lessons and this interests you.

One thing I can tell you for sure, is that their horses are beautifully healthy. They have pastures where the fence runs up by the road and we can easily see the horses. They are in great condition. I'm a huge horse lover, and the health of the horses is the first indication for me as to how an operation is run.

***Updated 12/19*** Thanks Darla for telling us that the place on Rumfield is no longer giving lessons. That is the place I was talking about. I knew I hadn't seen the sign out anymore but I wasn't for sure if they'd stopped for good or just during the colder months. :)
