Hello Ladies! My 8mo old daughter seems to always be sick! A flu (she has one this week and just got over one 5 days ago), a cold, a persistent cough - it's always something and usually accompanied by a high fever. At three weeks she was hospitalized due to a virus because her fever got so high.
I wonder if her immune system just isn't mature enough to handle virus' well? Does anyone have suggestions for homeopathic/naturopathic supplements I can give her to help boost her immune system?
Thanks for all your help mamas!

I give my daughter children's acidopholus and it seems to have built up her immune system. She too was sick a lot when she was really small. She's 2 1/2 and attends daycare full-time and I can honestly say she has been very healthy. Another thing my mother-in-law said to try is Sambucol. She swears by it. Good luck.

H.,

I have a really good homeopath. Tina Williams (classichomeopath.com). As an added bonus, she's also a lactation consultant. She's in the Phoenix area.

She has helped my (now) 3yo daughter with seemingly constant illensses that began when she started attending "school" part time.

While many of the remedies that you can pick up in the store may help, it really pays to get someone who will take the time and really study your case. They can find remedies that you would never immagine!

Probiotics--Google and read all about them. The most popular one is Acidophilus, but there are more and many different kinds. They should ALWAYS be taken after any round of antibiotics, and in my opinion, should be taken every day no matter what. They can't hurt you and from what I've read can be taken at any age. I hope she feels better soon!

Wow, I feel for you. A constantly sick baby is so agonizing. I also know how you feel though. I am not sure if you have heard of it but I absolutely love a juice called Xango Juice. It is a completely natural fruit juice so you can give it to babies as soon as they are old enough for juice. The stuff is an amazing immune system booster. I have a 13 month old that just gets put through the gamut in the winter. Every cough the older kids bring home goes straight to him and turns into bronchitis or worse. He's already gone to the ER twice in his short life, been admitted and aerovaced to larger hospitals, etc. At the end of this last winter (when he was about 10 months old) I finally started giving him about a teaspoon of Xango twice a day and even though a few more coughs, including bronchitis and the flu came through our house he didn't get any of it. I consider that a near miracle! Anyway, the stuff is wonderful. The only problem is you can only buy it from distributors, not at the stores. I'm not a distributor, but if you are interested you can contact me and I will put you in touch with the lady I got mine from.

Hi H.,
The only thing naturally that will boost her immune system is raw fruits and vegetables. I know she is too young to eat them, have you every heard of Juice Plus? They have capsuls for adults, and chewables and gummies for kids. With her I would break the capsul and put it in her baby food. My family has been on it for the last year. Before Juice Plus, I had two sinus infections within a month, my daughter had three strep throats. We were pretty sick. This year, all my daughter has had was a fever. My other daughter nothing. They are ages 2 and 5. If you would like more info about it I can either send you a DVD with Dr. Sears telling you about Juice Plus or check out my website www.healthystuff.org. It is the most researched nutraceutical out there and proves that it boosts your immune system, lowers homocysteine, reduces oxidative stress. So let me know. Good luck!

Are you nursing still? If so I highly recommend Juice plus. It is a supplement that you can take and she will benefit greatly from. They also have a program where if you are taking the juice plus one of your other children will get a supply free. If both you and your husband sign up both your older girls could be on the supplement. My boys and I take it and baring occasional allergy issues we do not get sick much at all. If you want more details on how to get it e-mail me and I would be happy to hook you up with my consultant. I swear by the stuff. it is whole food nutritional supplements (There is nothing else out there like this on the market) .

Hi H., we have a now 6 month old little guy who was showing signs of allergies (from something I was eating). I went to a naturapath/homeopath in Gold Canyon. She has a wonderful practice and excellent listening skills. We had a wonderful experience with her and her office. The practice is called Rejuvenation Institute ###-###-####
She spoke about strengthening his immune system in such a way as to hopefully lessen the chances of actually having a food allergy when he starts eating foods on his own.
Wish you the best,

Are you breastfeeding? That's a great way to build immunity.

Babies and kiddos benefit also from chiropractic care - they will get sick less often if they receive care. We use Jenny Dubisar - you can see her profile here:

http://www.azdoulas.com/about.meetourmembers.html

I can't give you specific advice regarding homeopathics, because I have just started getting into homeopathy, but I would suggest registering on the Yahoo! group for the Arizona Birth Network and asking your question. I registered for that group because I was interested in childbirth and subsequently discovered a whole bunch of people who are into naturopathic living! They welcome health/baby questions as well as questions regarding natural childbirth. Good luck!!!!

P.S. Sugar will wreck your kiddo's immune system - but from your description, I'm guessing that's not a problem with you!

Hi H.. I'm not an expert, but in addition to whatever homeopathic supplements that are recommended, I think it wouldn't hurt to give your daughter a probiotic supplement; you can buy these in powdered form and mix in liquid, or food.

Hi,

I'm not sure what part of our world you're in, but here in Tucson AZ, we have a wonderful facility called Desert Rose Homeopathics & Herbals, 2550 East Fort Lowell Road ###-###-####, ____@____.com's a hubby & wife shop, Denis & Mary. I would call if you can, or email and see if you can set a time to call and speak with Mary. They are very knowledgeable. Also, my daughter's pediatrician is a Homeopath. I know she has treated folks out of state. She was a western med (allopathic) doctor for many years, went through Dr. Andy Weil's alternative med. training at the U of A, and then onto homeopathic practice. Her name is Dr. Melanie Chimes,MD Homepathic Physician, 1643 North Alvernon Way Suite 102, Tucson, AZ ###-###-####, ____@____.com. A third option is Dr. Sandy Newmark. While he's not strictly homeopathic, he does refer to homeopaths, herbalists, etc. http://www.doctornewmark.com/

Any of these people are well worth contacting to see what advice they could give you for your area.

Best of luck to you and your angels.

Dear H.,

I dont' have any homeopathic remedies for you, but I can recommend a naturopathic office that has an on site natural pharmacy. They also have an herbalist there that can mix different teas and formularies depending on what the ailment is. They are located in Gilbert (Val Vista / Williams Field), so I don't know if that would be convenient for you. All the information is on their web site at www.naturallynurturing.net.

Good luck!

I wouldn't recommend a supplement without knowing more, but have you checked out the cause? My family, particularly my younger son, had similar, frequent illnesses when we lived in a house that had a lot of mold. We live in a very dry climate so I'd never heard of that. You might check out what could be in the environment that might be triggering it.

Hi,

We go to a naturopath and when my little one all the time this is what we used. The doses I'm giving you is what we used when he was 5 months old and I still use the same doses for him now and he is 2 years old

We gave Arabinex (Larch Arabinogalactans) by Thorne Research. 1/4 scoop 2 x a day. It's some kind of mushroom. I got it from my doctor but you can get it at this link http://www.naturdoctor.com/Chapters/Store/sunshop/index.p...

We also gave Colostrum Capsules. I would open up 2-3 capsules and sprinkle the powder in his bottle. 1 times a day. I got this at Hi-Health. Symbiotic brand. I, also take 6 capsules if I feel like I'm getting sick and the next day I'm fine. Great Stuff.

Also would give children's probiotics a couple times a day. You can buy that at places like whole foods market in the refridgerator section.

I believe all this really worked for us as he is NEVER sick now and if I feel he is looking peaked ...I start it up again. He is now 2 years old. I did all this when he was about 5 months old.

If you need a referral to a great naturopath...his name is Dr. Nathan Vitaro (480) 425-WELL. He's in N. Scottsdale.

Good Luck and let me know if you need any more help.

The first thing I'd suggest is to check her diet. Any good doctor will tell you that if you cut out refined foods and boost fresh produce, that provides the optimum for a healthy immune system.

Hi H.

Here is one of the best video's I have ever seen on Natural Health for children. I would highly recommend this to anyone with kids or thinking of having kids.

http://www.theglobalsuccessteam.net/resources/FLASH/Child...

That movie covers a full range of topics starting at what to eat so some of it your little one won't be ready for yet but they grow fast ;-) And info will come in handy in the future.

also not sure it covers Nutriferon, which is natural interferon that your body needs, but here is info on that

Dear H., My "Amazing Shelley" is all grown with amazing babies of her own. We didn't know about this stuff when she was little, but it has been a big help for my grandaughter... no longer coming home from school sick with every germ they've got... and passing it around the family.
Illness really cramps your ability to keep up with HUGE mothering role, whether it's the kids who're sick, or YOU.
So, we got my daughter and her daughter some Mannatech supplements. They have MannaBears, in little gummy bears... immune boosters. Glyco Bears are the vitamin/minerals. They taste great and you can't overdo them. It's a MLM so use my ####-###-#### to order. You don't have to sign up, but it's a really good way to pay for your own supplements, and help alot of other people get better at the same time. Your choice, but give these a try. It made such a big difference to have everyone well again. (Jenna got sulky when she was sick, and she has a baby brother who is now enjoying her and adoring her again.)
Here's all the Mannatech info;
TEL#800-281-4469 use my Acct# ###-###-####
and for the kids I get
#12401 GlycoBears 20.50 and
#12501 Manna(Gummy)Bears 24.50.
For Mom and me, I get one ea. of immune, enzyme, and AO.
the combo packages, easy to pack on the go. "Basic Gold" pack and its about 112.05 and lasts me about 2 or 3 months.
#35101 Ambrotose AntiOxydant 32.15
#11201 PhytoMatrix 39.95
#11101 PLUS endocrine 32.15
Now I'll tell you something really amazing.. when Jenna was born her urether wasn't fuller formed. We thought she'd live life with a bag attached. I'd had some friends who'd had amazing results on other genetic diseases their kids had had and this Mannatech stuff. so we tried it (powdered Ambrotose in her bottle) and it got all better. My daughter was breast feeding so we used some of her milk and mixed the Ambrotose into it). Jenna is 6 now, and has absolutely no potty problems.
Feel free to use my #, and please give this supplement a try. I give it away when I can afford to, because it just makes so much difference. My girlfriend's teenage daughter had mononucleosis, was down to 80 lbs, and kicked it out of her system. I use it every couple of days to keep my immune system strong enough to avoid all the flus. First sign of it, and I realize I haven't taken my Mannatech for a few days. Boom. It's gone. Just like that. I'm 61 and everyone thinks I'm 45. I've been taking Mannatech for about 20 years, since I had chronic fatigue syndrome and migraines that never stopped for weeks at a time. (I wish I'd known about this sooner.) That's why I'm so sure it's good stuff. It's saved my life and made some others a whole lot better. Be Well, L.

Hi H.,
I saw this and thought I would add my two cents. I have two little girls, 2 & 4. My parents told me about a thing called Juice Plus, before the girls were born. My parents had started taking it and wanted me to know about it for my family. It is a product that uses a patented method to put fruits and veggies into concentrated form. If you take the pills- which are considered a whole food- you get all the benefits of the fruits & veggies which they are comprised of. I gave it to my girls as early as they began eating solid foods by sprinkling a capsule in their oatmeal or rice cereal. The kids now take a gummy version, that they think it a treat (and are very good.) There are very extensive independent research projects going on for this product, and I am sold totally on it. I can give you the website, and if you are interested you can find a distributor in your area, or I can put you in contact with my mom, who distributes it as well. Just thought this might interest you, let me know if I can help with any questions you might have!

a similar situation happened to my daughter years ago....she would consistantly get sick every weekend...high fevers, flu like symtoms...i had her blood checked and numerous costly other tests....
it seemed to me that it was the chemicals in our carpet...during the week we were gone a lot and during the weekends we were home, mostly playing on the floor...
i soon found as we started to visit friend's houses over the weekends she was not getting sick...
to boost kids immune systems you can look at health food store for elderberry syrup or there is a formula of echinacea and goldenseal drops you can mix into their drink...
good luck, it gets pretty scary...

I have seven kids and I try as hard as I can to keep all of them healthy with herbs and vitamins. Some of the products I use are:
homeopathic: these next two products are manufactured by HEEL , Engystol is the first one and i use it as well as give it to my kids. its just a little pill that you let dissolve under your tounge.it is for viral infections and skin dissorders and feverish conditions.
the nextone is called, Inflammation, and you use it the same way as the other one but it is for minor injuries, fever and acne vulgaris. So when my kids are sick I give them those as often as I can remember to give it to them.
Another product I use is from American biotech Labs and is called Silver Biotics it is an ultimate immune support. I use it for any cold , cough runny nose , fever, I think prety much anything! our naturpath told us about these products I mentioned above. The silver biotics you might be able to get at sprouts, I got mine at the Good Apple here in Apache Junction.
Some other products you might want to try I have found at sprouts, they are Called Herbs for Kids and they are liquid herbs. I have loved them and I give to my kids when I feel they need it , even if they are well, and when they are sick I will just give them it several times a day!
The last ones I wanted to tell you about are from Dr. John Cristophers, you can go to drchristopher.com ... Kid-e-Well is a product I love it is another liquid herb and this one is a cold and flu formula. One that I take for myself is from the same company and is called the Cold Season formula, it is in pill form.

Ok so I guess that was a long list but I litterally pulled the stuff that I use regularly ,out of my cubbard. I really believe that we can help heal our kids through herbs and vitramins, and that they will be much healthier because of it! I have seen my kids get well so much quicker because I give them these vitamins. I cant remember the last time I have used chemicals when they are sick! And I havent gotten sick this year either!! When ever I feel like I might need extra support I will take some of the cold season formula and drink a couple of the EMERGENCY packets( I forgot to mention that one but its a little packet of vitamin c that you mix in water, and you can get that at sprouts). So good luck, I dont know all the answers but I know a little?! Hope this helps!---

The good news is, she won't be one of those kindergartners always out sick, (cuz she is building up an immunity now!) Is she getting germs from other little ones nearby? Keep up with the infant motrin to keep her fever down when she gets sick. Talk to her pediatrician if you think she has an immune problem, I hope it is all normal and she will be extra healthy next year!
