Homemade Wine Charms

I want to make some wine charms for Thanksgiving to take to my aunt's house and use that day, then let them stay there for her to keep kind of as a hostess gift. Ya know the charms - they're little rings to go around your wine glass so you know which glass is yours (she didn't have any year before last when we were there for Thanksgiving) .

So I was trying to come up with a theme for the set of charms. First thought was to do everyone's name (Stacey, Janet, Sis, Joe, etc.) but then I thought "What if I miss someone or if someone brings a guest? I guess I could do a few that say 'friend' or 'pal'." Then I thought maybe I should do Thanksgiving words "turkey, gravy, stuffing, etc" but then my aunt will only use them once a year. I thought maybe I could go humorous and do "Sloshed, tanked, drunk, obnoxious, etc" but there will be kids at our holiday celebration, so maybe not appropriate. I also though I could go 21st century and do text talk (since space is limited for beads on the wine charms) and do "LOL, OMG, IMHO, LMAO and so forth."

So - if you went to Thanksgiving and had your choice to pick up a charm and put it on your wine glass, what theme would you like? And what word would you pick for your glass? I am open to anything!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the feedback ladies! Y'all have given me a lot to think about. We'll see what I can afford when I get to the bead store. I think doing a great variety of colors with perhaps a charm (or not?) may be the way I go. Thank you ladies. I guess I want to make her something that she can't go buy at the local store.

Theme schmeme. I hate "themes"! (Can you tell?)

I'd prefer different color jewels or flowers.....can be used by anyone at anytime!

Very super-cute idea, Jess!

I don't drink wine, but I love the idea of wine charms because it is cute and sensible.

Honestly, I would avoid the theme, I would get something that would look good for any event so you can reuse them for other holidays, like really pretty sparkly glass beads. But, if I had to do a theme, I would do maybe like an acorn, pumpkin, fall leaf, cornucopia, pinecone, ... really though, I would probably forget if I was the pinecone or the acorn, you now?

It would be so cute if you did like chalkboard tags, Buy little wooden disks (they often have holes in them already) and spray paint them with chalkboard paint. Use a pretty ribbon to tie them on. Then have a cute bowl of chalk so each person can initial their own glass.

How about positive character descriptions: beautiful, happy, generous, handsome, joyful, etc. Or pick characters in your aunt's favorite movie: Harry, Herimone, Ron, Dumbledore, etc. I've also seen someone who was a big traveler with one per city that they've been to: Paris, Venice, London, Honolulu, etc. and they added them when necessary.

Use beads - different shapes and colors.
It's not season specific so she can use them all year.

Cute question! I'd go with Greek gods/goddesses. :)

ETA: Now my brain's flowing. Constellations, stones/gems/birthstones, wonders of the world, excuses for drinking ("I'm bored," "Had a bad day,"etc)

Food descriptions that can be innocent for kids, but funny for adults -
Cheesy, Salty, Crusty, Bland, Corny, Sweet, Spicy....

perhaps a charm in the middle and two colored beads on each side? Those charms that say "Inspire" or "Dream" or "Create"

How about astro signs? Virgo, Gemini, Leo?

Or get a baggie full of different charms and mix them up.

I got a seaside set of charms (Sea shells, like the sand dollar, starfish, dolphin, bucket and spade, beachball, flip flops, etc.) and a set of Diva charms, like a martini glass, a handbag, high heel shoes...

Or you could do a thanksgiving/fall theme, and get fall colored beads.

have fun!

I would pick from the sloshed tanked and drunk group! Why not make several that she can use. And since the kids wont be drinking from those cups (which are liquor and not kid friendly) i would not worry about offending little ones. But I do like all the others even holiday ones. Perhaps Bah humbug , jingle, and scrooge, naughty group would be fun since by the time thanksgiving is here they will be put up right after and the christmas ones she can use for about a month!

I would just do fall colors with appetizing words, like "Yum" "Delicious" "Savory" etc... That way, the hostess isn't confined to using them for only Thanksgiving, but for all of her fall dinner parties.

My sister makes these as well and he typical choice for gifts such as these would be one of her seasons collections. You know, fall colors - really it could go for any time of the year but would be most appropriate for any fall holidays. Reds, Greens, Oranges, Yellows, Brown and of course GOLD!!! I had her make my SIL some heart charm ones for her xmas gift last year and she pulls them out each time we have a gathering!
