Can anyone reccomend a good affordable home alarm/security system? I've recently had someone steal some things from me and I'm kinda freaked out. I have 2 big dogs and I always thought that was enough. Now I'm doubting myself.
I have ADT and very satisfied with the service. I think they are a few dollars more, but I felt more comfortable going with a highly reputable company, rather than a mediocre one. I called on one company that offered a cheap price, and the way they handled the call and appointment was not very organized or professional (can't remember the name, sorry). But, ADT gets kudos from me and I feel very safe! :) Good Luck!
It really depends what you want. There are many that offer free equipment if you purchase their service, but the equipment is limited, and they usually try to get to you up it. Also, know that when you get into a contract, it is so hard to get out of it, so know HOW to get out. And what happens if you don't. We thought that about a month's notice would be enough, but it had to be more than a month, and we were automatically renewed for a year. Next time, I will submit my cancellation when I sign the contract.
Contact Guardian Home Securities. A friend of mine works for them, John Thiry is his name. I'm sure someone would be able to find him for you if you call them. Not sure what office he works out of but he lives in Pinellas County, maybe Tampa Bay/Clearwater office...I'm sure he would give you the best deal possible and wouldn't mind driving to see you. He's also a very good person and honest and if anyone can get you a good price, it will be him. He's been doing it for a long time and won't try to get you to buy all kinds of uneccesary/unaffordable bells n' whistles for his own financial gain..If you do, tell him J. O sent you.
My ADT only costs $29 a month.
I recently signed up with Melaleuca Security. They are about $15 per month cheaper today than the other quotes I received three years ago. Very helpful and friendly.

GE just came out with a new one, it is pretty cheap, the equipment is free with the contract, and it links to fire and police so you have panick buttons too...
We had Brinks, who was Broadview and now ADT. We like them and they are working with us on payments as my husband took a 4th paycut. Good luck finding some piece of mind.
We have Guardian and are very happy with them. However there are other reputable companies out there who will install your system for free if you agree to contract with them for a certain period of time. This can be very economical because installation alone can cost a couple thousand dollars.
