My husband and i have been trying since Feburary to get pregant. I have cycled more regular this time then i have my entire life. So i am about a week late starting and we think we maybe pregnant. The only problem is that when we did the hpt, the verticle line sorta faded in a litte bit. We are really confused, since when we were pregnant with our first one it came back positive so fast. Can any tell me if they think since the line faded in a little that's a positive test? We are trying to schedule a blood test. But my ob cut down his hours. Thanks

You are pregnant. That's how mine was when i took it and since i was confused i call the toll free number and they told me that was a 99% positive, and now my baby is 5 months old!! if you weren't pregnant there wouldn't be a second line at all so Congrats!!! :)

What brand of test did you use? If the line came up with in the time limit and it has color to it then its a positive. However I've had problems with the blue dye tests, I'v seen tons of false positives with them because the dye gets caught in the verticle line (and not because I was pregnant :( . But usually the line is thin on those, if its a blue dye test, the line is thick, it came up within the time limit (before 10 min) then I'd trust it to be a positive.
You can go get a Digital test, those are sooo easy to read, either "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant" and if you a week late, I'm pretty sure the test will be accurate.
Good luck to you.

I say consider it a positive result until you find out otherwise. Most tests will say that even if there is a hint of color it's a positive result. If you are still anxious to find out and can't get into your doctors soon, just buy another test and use your first morning urine to test when the HCG levels are typically highest since it's been in your body for a significant amount of time.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Usually, if there is even a faint line, it's positive. Your best bet right now is to either wait a few days and retest, or go get a blood test. I know at the hospitals here you don't have to have a doctors order to go get a pregnancy test, but if you don't have an order, you have to pay for the test. It's usually only like $13 or something. So call the hospital in your area and see if they will do it.

Just a note to let you know about HPT's: The ones they use that the doctors are the same as the ones you can buy in the store. More expensive doesn't always mean better, and dollar store ones work just as well as the more expensive ones. Also, sometimes waiting a few days will help insure a correct result. If you think it may be positive, but can't tell for sure, wait a few days then retest. Usually by then your HCG levels are high enough that it will show for sure. More then likely last time, your levels were higher, so it picked it up faster. Good luck!! I hope you get the results you want!!!!

This happened to both my sister and I. The line was so light that we thought we had negative tests. I don't know why the lines were so light, but I was pregnant and had normal hormone levels.

Best of luck!!

My husband and I used a home pregnancy test just a couple of weeks after conceiving. Since it was so early into the pregnancy, it too just faded the line. We thought that the test failed somehow and went to bed. The next morning when I woke up, I happened to look at the test again and it finally turned the right color, although not so bright. It was a strange experience! Good luck!

Hi, J...

I have A LOT of exp. with hpt's... Even if the the vertical line is faint, you are positive for the preg. hormone. Most tests tell you that if the line is dark or faint, it's a go... It's possible you tested so early that your hormone isn't very strong yet, or you didn't get the strongest urine stream of the day.

I am nearly 11 weeks preg. and tested 4 (yes, 4) times and all 4 times showed the faintest line for positive. I even took another one just 2 days ago so I could have a darker reading one for posterity, and it was STILL light...

Just remember, tests cannot be read accurately after something like 10 or 15 mins.

Good Luck!

With my second pregnancy - you could barely even see the line it was so light. I would retake a test again though. You can't always be certain. I would take another test in a few days. I know it's frustrating. I am very impatient when it comes to finding those things out and want to know immediately.

I took a couple of home pregnancy tests a little bit back. I went to planned parenthood and they give you the same grade pee test that is standard in any hospital. And if you're low on cash, they do it for free.
SO I took two at home pregnancy tests and I just wasn't sure if they were accurate and my sister in law told me about planned parenthood's. Plus if you CAN pay it's only 15 bucks about the price of two inaccurate ones. Ha! Anyway this is starting to sound like an advertisement, but I'm just letting you know my experience... it took about 3 minutes.
Good Luck!

my advice would be to get another test I tried for a year or so with my first one everytime we tested we used two tests. They are allot more accurate now than they were 11 years ago. but I think any line even a faint one is a good sign.

With my first pregnancy test, the line was faded. So, I took another pregnancy test and it was positive. I think any line, faded or not, is a pregnancy indicator. Your pregnancy hormone was probably not as strong when you took this test. I would recommend taking a second test, they are generic brands, which work just as well.

Congratulations!! You are so pregnant. My husband didn't believe out last baby was coming. He was the BIGGEST surprise. I had fertility drugs for my first two and he came out of no where. One line was slightly faded and he insisted on another test and yes that was positive as well.

I am the mom of three, we lost several babies along the way to get the three we have. The first two were in vitro babies and my last was a birthcontrol joy. The last baby We had never did show up on a home test. I was almost 15 weeks pregnant before I went to the doctor because I was sure something horrible was wrong with me. The last baby of mine is the most precious gift ever - he was the one I didn't know I wanted until he got here.

my tests were always faint, but any line is usually a positive, go to the dollar store and buy a bunch then you dont waste your money re testing. My Ob said the dollar store ones are just the same as the expensive ones!!! Good luck

Hi, J.:

I'm a 39-year old mom of 5. I've seen my fair share of prenancy tests - especially between me and my friends who have lots of kids as well. I'm no expert in the science of pregnancy tests, but it's been my experience that when the line is faded, it still means "positive". Now - the unfavorable news (and I'm not trying to scare you - just being realistic) is that when the line is faded, is COULD mean that there is not enough of the hormone the preganancy test is trying to read, which COULD mean it may not be a viable pregnancy. Many of the faded readings of my own and that of my friends, have not ended in viable pregnancies. (I'm sorry.) But that faded reading is also NOT a definite disaster.) SO, you should DEFINITELY get a blood test - not only to verify if you are really pregnant, but to also see how high pregnancy hormones actually are. So, good luck. I really hope that your blood test is all GOOD news. Best wishes.

Many hospitals have a mini-lab where you can go and have your blood tested for around $10.

If there were two lines then you are pregnant. Even if one is faded a little, it is still a positive result. Almost every time I have done a test (and I was pregnant) one line has been a lot lighter than the other one. Good luck and I hope it is a positive for you.

Hello J.. When I took a preg test w/my daughter the result line was very faint. Although I had taken it on the very day I was to start my period. Have you tried taking another test or even using one of the early testing kits. Good luck to you. We've been trying for no 3 for 14mos.

I have four kids and for some reason, reguardless which test I tried the line always came in very faint. Rule of thumb from my ob, if there is even a hint of a line your pregnant. You could always try another test if your not sure since everyday the pregnancy hormone gets stronger and I was always told to take it with my first pee in the morning.

Pregnancy tests, to my knowledge, are based in the lefelof hormones in your body. When I got pregnant with my son, I had a negative test but "at the last minute it changed to positve." (Those were the words from the nurse). I was about 8 days late. I say to wait one more week and you will probably get a more accurate reading.

The general rule on pregnancy tests is "A line is a line" regardless of how dark it is. However, if the line has no color to it & it faded, then it's possible it was an evaporation line.

It may be because it is a different brand of test, or they might have changed how the test reacts. What I have been told is that if a line shows at all, even if it fades, take it is a true positive. Congratulations! If you're still not sure, try taking another hpt. Maybe a different brand.
