I need a hobby! We have little money to spend on extra things right now because we are paying off debt before baby #2(not conceived yet). So currently my free time is spent online or watching t.v. & I get bored with that pretty quickly.

What hobbies do you have? What hobbies cost little or are free?

Thanks in advance for suggestions!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

MzKitty, yes it is, lol! Sometimes I need a break from the internet though.

I do read. I LOVE my Kindle! Even that can get old though. I take my dog for walks. The weather has been pretty bad lately & both me & the dog hate the rain, lol. I have a bunch of jewelry making stuff I need to dig out of the garage.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I need to make some new friends & get out of the house more. I think that will help my boredom as well.

Isn't mamapedia a hobby? =)

ETA: Ok, fair enough. =) What about reading? I also print recipes off the internet and put them in a binder. Then when I try them with the family, I throw away the ones we don't like and put notes on the ones we do. But that is time on the computer too.

I also have found some beads on sale and make stretchy bracelets. I keep some and give some away. I can also do some basic crochet stitches and make scarves on occasion and give them away as gifts, unless the kids want them. =)

Scrap booking, paper crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting (it is easier than knitting), or researching your family history (it can be done at the library and online for free or for a fee).

Have you tried a needlecraft like knitting? I picked it up a few years back and love the quiet (yet productive!) time I get to spend working on projects. It's not just a grandmotherly craft anymore, either. There are thousands of beautiful, modern things you can make for yourself, babies, kids or as gifts. If you're interested this site has videos to help get you started: www.knittinghelp.com. You can also join ravelry.com for endless ideas and inspiration. :)

Hi Irene-

I do all kinds of things...I read (libraries are free...and have kiddo programs as well)

I crochet/knit/sew/embroider/macrame....and am trying 'jewelry'...I usually plan some projects NOW for gifts thru the year as I have a little break post 'holidays' before B days etc are upon me!

I have recently taken up baking...I was never 'much' at it before...but my family HAS enjoyed the 'fruits'/baking attempts...

I have found that just searching ANY craft/baking these days yields many VERY helpful videos/links...NOT just for beginners...but for 'old farts' like me!

I wish you luck!

My main hobbies are reading and exercising (mostly running/walking) - both reasonably priced! My daughter (9) wanted to start knitting, so I refreshed my vague memory on that and I enjoy it more than I thought I would. I would bake and cook more, but it is just me and her (half time), so I don't do much of that.

I knit. It's a great hobby because I make clothing, socks, hats, etc for my family and friends. You can get a ton of free patterns on line and books from the library.

Geneology. You can access most of the sites that cost money at the public library.

My hobbies are art and exercising. I guess reading too...I love to read and am always getting new books from the library. I love the website Goodreads.com. I like to draw and paint. I make tiles and sell them (I paint them with glazes and fire them in a kiln). I like to run, bike, ski (xcountry skiing is my favorite and is not expensive), and do yoga. Hulu has yoga videos for free. Running is easy and free if you have someone to watch your child. I do a run exchange with a girlfriend once a week and go again on a weekend morning. Oh and definitely cooking is a hobby. I love food and learning new recipes. I'm turning a bit into a foodie!

I used to be big into scrap booking it can be expensive but it doesnt have to be, shop wisely ( I bought photo albums on clearance for my books and kept looking for sales and coupons) and make stuff! Now I'd like a new hobby so I hope you get some good suggestions.
Birdwatching! hand some bird feeders, where you can see them, get a bird guide or just use the internet and get the kids watching too, my son doesnt spend much time bird watching, but gets that we appreciate nature!
