I anticipate that my OB/GYN will be referring me to a reproductive endocrinologist next week for fertility issues and I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with the Hinsdale Center for Reproduction (Hinsdale) or The Midwest Fertility Center (Downers Grove). Any info (positive & negative) are welcome. Thanks.

Hi,
I am not familiar with these two places, but I am very familiar with Dr. Dmowski at Oak Brook Fertility. Thanks to him I have beautiful 13 month old twin girls. We loved everyone in the office, they were just all GREAT. I couldn't speak high enough about them.
Good luck!

I can't vouch for either of those clinics, but just wanted to let you know that we had amazing results and so did our friends with the Oakbrook Fertility Center. Dr. Dmowski is one of the founding fathers of fertility treatments and he and his wonderful staff helped us to get pregnant when I had stage 4 endometriosis. He performed surgery on me, I became pregnant through fertility treatments with our daughter, and now I am about to have a second child who was conceived naturally. Hope this helps! Good luck.

I can't say enough great things about Hinsdale Center for Reproduction. I was first at Northwestern for 2 IVF cycles, where I was just a number and had a very bad experience as a result of it being such a large program. I've had friends say the same about being just a number at Midwest Fertility Center because they are such a large program, too. My biggest reason for choosing Hinsdale Center for Reproduction was because it is a small program and I could be more closely monitored.

After my first IVF cycle there, I was pregnant with twins and delivered two healthy boys last year. I saw Dr. Levin, who just recently left the practice, but Dr. Hickey is still there. Two of my friends have seen him and thought very highly of him, too. I only saw him a couple of times for ultrasounds but he seemed great. I will be returning there in the fall for another IVF cycle.

What's great about HCR is the involvement of the dr. in every step of the process. The dr. does every ultrasound. This doesn't happen at every center. At Northwestern it was always a different ultrasound tech, and the only time I saw my dr. was during my D&C after my miscarriage.

I can't recommend HCR enough. From the office staff, to the nurses, to the doctors and embryologist, they are just wonderful. Please e-mail me with any questions.

I have a wonderful, beautiful, healthy and happy Daughter thanks to Midwest Fertility Center. Dr. Madanas was always willing to take the time and talk with me. The Nursing staff was excellent, I called OFTEN and never once felt rushed, when asking a question. They did run Many, MANY tests, but I just figured it was it was in my best interest. (Remember infertility could be caused by various different issues, and often times more than one.)

My Husband and I decided NOT to do the IVF, to take a break for a bit. They actually said is was an excellent idea, if they were just after the money, wouldn't they have pushed this? When we returned, before we started IVF, I found I was pregnant...but had a miscarrage. They were very understanding, and even offered counsiling if I felt the need. I lost it on a Friday...by Monday I was in for a DNC and to make sure it was not a tubal as I was having pains on the right side.

But, enough of that..the end result was a wonderful experience and a healthy baby girl. (Now I must say that this was almost 6 years ago..and there could be some staffing changes)

I do not know these two RE's, but I highly recommend Dr John Rinehart with the Rinehart Center for Reproductive Medicine. You can google to get his contact info, he is in Downers and Central Dupage Hosp. I had started the process with another clinic in the south suburbs. I didn't like them at all and was really discouraged about the whole process. Then we moved and I needed to find a new RE, and that's when we discovered Dr. Rinehart. Through his practice, we had three IVF cycles, 2 of which resulted in our two beautiful children. I have nothing but positives to say about Dr Rinehart as well as every person on his staff. He is an excellent doctor! Best of luck to you!

Hi there-
I absolutely LOVED Hinsdale Center for reproduction-Dr. Levin performed my IUI (sucessful on the very first try!). They are wonderful people there! Also, if it is needed, Maternal Fetal Medicine is the next office down the hall-Dr. Gauthier over there is great too! I live right by the Midwest Fertility Center, but my OBGYN referred me to Oakbrook. Not until later did I find out 2 of my friends went there too. Although I don't believe the consult is free, it is certainly worth having one. Remember to bring or have sent ahead of time, all your info from your GYN. In the 1st 5 minutes w/ the doc he was able to see my problem.
Good luck!

Hi,
I went to the Midwest Fertility Center. I have to say I didn't enjoy the experience. The docs and techs were extremely impersonal and insensitive. For instance, I was berated for making them stop doing something very painful during a procedure I didn't need. I was criticized and ignored when I suggested the problem seemed to be one certain thing and could we test for it first? Instead they did several other expensive and unnescesary tests first, only to confirm that my problem was exactly what I thought it was to begin with, and easily solved.

I think these clinics, and it could be a common problem, often have a set series of tests that make them a lot of money, and they insist on doing them all, even if your problem doesn't match the test. For instance, I was pregnant and kept losing the pregnancy. They insisted on doing a rather painful test to check for a blocked tube before they would check for hormone problems. Huh? Obviously the eggs were getting where they needed to go... Also, there were several times where they said, OK, call back after 3 days (or whatever) to get the result so I could see if I should take a certain action. I would call and get no answer, leave a message, no return call. I would be stuck for long frustrating weekends without promised results. I tried telling them that if the results don't come in when expected they should probably just return the call and tell me so please! To, once again, no response.

Maybe all the places insurance companies cover in Dupage are like this, I don't know. I would be tempted to try the other one if you can, or just be prepared for a very clinical, unresponsive environment where you need to be a very strong advocate for yourself. I did end up pregnant, but it truly didn't have to be such a negative experience.

If you can, I recommend taking a friend or family member to all tests with you even if they say you don't need to. I had to sit in my car once for an hour before I could drive myself home after a test they said was mildly uncomfortable.

Hi:

I had both of my beautiful, healthy girls through the Hinsdale center and I can't say enought great things about them. Dr. Levin is the one you want. He's compassionate and incredibly smart. The staff is wonderful, too from the women that work at the desk to the nurses that get you through it all.

Best of luck to you!!

By the way, one of my girls was artificial insemmination and the other was IVF.

I don't have personal experience with either of those clinics, but I went through Loyola REI in LaGrange Park and I have 3 kids and am about to give birth to my 4th, all conceived through IUI. The nurses there are WONDERFUL and although I worked with a couple of different doctors over the past 6 years, my experience has always been very positive. I would highly recommend the office if your insurance covers them.

Hello. I haven't had any experiences with the mentioned centers, but I had an excellent experience at the Rinehart Center for Reproductive Medicine in Downers Grove. It was very important to me (for both medical and ethical reasons) to find a Reproductive Endocrinologist that wouldn't simply pump me up with a ton of drugs (so that his statistics of successful pregnancies was improved) and end-up with a multiples pregnancy. Dr. Rinehart is very conservative. I successfully became pregnant with my DD on my third IUI attempt. (And then, a year later, got pregnant all on my own, without any fertility help.)

If you have questions or want more information, please feel free send me a message and ask. I hope you will be blessed with a healthy, happy baby very, very soon! Best of luck to you.

Hi, First of all, best of luck to you with whatever you choose. I have gone through 4 IVFs (after many many years of fertility drugs and treatments) - 3 with Dr. Madanes at Midwest Fertility Center and 1 with Dr Charles Miller in Naperville. I had one successful pregnancy with each clinic. I miscarried 2 other IVF pregnancies when I was going to Midwest Fertility Center. I am eternally grateful for my children and I could not have had them without those clinics.
However, I felt that neither doctor (nor many of the nurses) had a particularly great bedside manner. I think that the whole IVF/ fertility treatment rollercoaster can be very scary and I think that the people who work at the clinics need to be more sensitive to that. I do not expect them to cry when I have a miscarriage, I just expect them to understand that I will.
But I did have success with both doctors. MFC I had three IVFs , two fresh cycles, one frozen. All three I became pregnant, but only had one full term pregnancy ( my first IVF) with a very healthy baby girl. My pregnancy was very healthy. I switched to Dr. Miller after the two miscarriages and had one fresh IVF cycle. Again I became pregnant with a single baby, but I had a life threatening pregnancy. Luckily I made it to term with a beautiful healthy boy. But after all of my complications set in, we did find that I had two serious clotting issues that neither doctor had tested for ( and I have been told by other doctors that they should have been obvious issues to test for). THese issues may have been responsible for my miscarriages as well. I hope you find success wherever you go, good luck - S.
