We just moved our furniture around and well the place where we walk the most is dark colored and I was wondering what can get rid of that. We have hot shot spray but that did not work. What has everyone else had success with?

What can I do next?

I use Resolve and that works really well, and not just on the floor, on furniture too. I also recommend for big areas, A carpet shampoo. At Wallmart in the customer service area they have some that you can rent and they work really well. I have not used them myslef but my friend has and the results were fantastic. It made the carpet look like new. Congrats on trying for your second child, I wish you luck.

I rent the Rug Doctor to clean the carpets. I've had pretty good sucess with it.

I also like the Bissel Quick Steamer for doing in between cleans.

Julia,

I'm not sure what color your carpet is. But if it's a lighter colored carpet I always use my steam cleaner with the cleaner and I also add a little oxy clean. It really does a good job. I've heard it works on colored (darker) carpet but I have it tried it on our darker carpet yet.

I hope you find something to help.

only a proffessional cleaning can do it. I recommend Chem Dry because they use less water than the steam cleaners. But it's your choice. Renting one may not be as cheap either if it takes hours to dry.

Hi Julia,
My husband and I had Stanley Steamer come out and clean our carpets a few months ago. They did a great job! But as you know with kids they don't stay that way. So we went and bought some Simple Green. That stuff is amazing. I have used it to clean stains out of the seats in the car and in the carpet. I have a friend who owns a detail shop and that is all they use to gets stains out of cars. It doesn't really cost a lot and it works great. Good Luck!

If you rent a steam cleaner I would not suggest using their products in it. They charge way too much for them. A little known secret of automotive personnal is they use Simply Green to clean auto upolstry. It works great on auto carpets and works just as good on home carpets. We use it whenever we clean our carpet and haven't been disappointed yet. Smells good and cleans well. You can find it at walmart in larger quantities over in the automotive section. I've started to see it as an all purpose cleaner too. I think whats over in the auto section though is concentrated.

Sometimes, for the really bad traffic areas, you may have to hire a really good professional carpet cleaner once a year. If Rug Doctor doesn't work, it's still a lot cheaper than new carpet!

Hi Julia. :)

We have a Rug Doctor, we ended up buying one because we have two little ones, two cats and a Great Dane who all contribute daily to the carpet's well-trod-upon appearance! It works great, and the spots all go away. Our carpet looks new again! Until the next rainstorm, anyway...

There is a product called Folex that I buy at Target. It comes in a white bottle with dark purple lettering. It is one of the more expensive cleaners but I had tried everything so I thought I would give it a shot. It takes out every stain I have tested. I hope it works for you.
