Hi moms

so for the past 36 hours my 13 month old has been running a fever that has ranged from 101.5 to 103.7. she is maybe a little crabby and wants her mom a bit more than usual, and hasn't had a poop since yesterday morning (which is unusual) but aside from that has no other symptoms. anyone else ever had this experience?

thanks!

What can I do next?

If she comes up with a rash in a few days, I'd say it's roseola. It's a virus, and it'd go away on its own. Otherwise, I'd say she has a sore throat. My little boy had both with no other symptoms besides a fever. I hope she feels better.

My vote is for roseolla...both my kids have had that...high fever, no other symptoms until finally a few days later they get a rash. Once they get the rash, they are no longer contagious. THe rash doesn't bother them at all.

Hope she feels better soon.

Could be several things. If she still has a fever in the morning I would call the dr. and get their advice. For my kids a high fever alone usually means strep, and ear infection or an allergic reaction to a new food.

Def sounds like Roseola... After the fever is a rash that will last for a few days. It's harmless but it does make the baby crabby.

just keep her hydrated - this is how her little body build immunity. "fighting off" the fever does no good in that regard.
Good Luck

I took my daughter to the doctor one time with just a high fever and no other symptoms at all for 2 days. She was diagnosed with pneumonia.

I have had a child with pneumonia before, and thought there would be wheezing and cough and difficulty breathing as my son had displayed. When my son had it, I thought is was allergies because we had played outside for the first time in spring and the symptoms hit that night. The next day, we had and outdoor family reunion and the symptoms got worse. I still assumed it was allergies. At 3 the next morning a heard him struggling to breath and wheezing noticeable. I used the inhaler repeatedly and it did not help. We took him to ER and they admitted him. This was my experience with pneumonia in the past, and my daughter did not display any of these symptoms.

They swabbed her throat and nose to check for strep and listened intently several times to her chest and said it sounded clear. The doctor that we say was determined to find the cause and finally decided to do a chest extra even though her lungs were clear and the extra show pneumonia. I expressed my surprise to the doctor and he said that not all types of pneumonia show the symptoms I was expecting. He called walking pneumonia, I believe. It has been about a year ago so I may be wrong about the name he gave it.

I believe my baby book says to take them to the doctor at 103 and to ER at 104. It is better to be safe than sorry. If it were my child, I would take them to the doctor or to a walk in clinic today.

I ditto completely what Erin said! My son would get really high fevers, like around 105 and actually 106 one time, with no other symptoms. I took him into the ER twice and have taken him to the Dr. countless of times but always was told that his body was fighting something and his body has a "high cooker." in order to get rid of whatever it is. I was told unless he was overly uncomfortable to not give him any tylenol or motrin if his fever was under 104 or 105. It's scary though, especially with a 18 month old, so I would still take her in to rule out Strep or an ear infection.

My daughter got Roseola and that was the high fever and then the rash showed up on her trunk I think 3 days later.

Good Luck!

My daughter has run a high (104 - 105) fever with no other symptoms. The ER says under 105 w/out any other symptoms does not warrant a trip to the ER. Once they crest 105, take her in. That is what they said to me. Although 105 is very scary, it is not abnormal, so they say. We took her in anyways, and they sent us home. I would say if you are concerned, take her in. I have realized that fevers are the body's natural reaction to a bug, and in and of itself, is not too concerning to the doctors. My daughter spikes a high fever whenever she gets sick. I know the doctors are not concerned, but it scared the heck out of us. I hope your baby feels better soon. I know how scary it is! Oh, and you can call the ER and usually a nurse will talk to you and let you know what they think.

I'm going with Roseola! My son had this at 10 months. Just give her motrin and keep the fever down. On day 4/5 he woke up with spots, but the fever was gone. It's very common.

It could be teething or ear infection? When my son was teething he ran a fever for a couple of days.

Call your pediatrician and tell them the information that you've posted here. Sometimes children get viruses that only have fever, but let them know the symptoms, just to be safe. Most importantly, you'll feel better once you hear what they have to say.

Sounds like teething. Teething can involve the intestines like that.

My oldest son used to get HIGH fevers when he teethed, with no other symptoms....and then 4 teeth would pop in. His highest was 106 and 40 hours later, he was fine and there was 4 teeth. I never bring a fever down, as it's his body fighting this properly, but at 106, we did undress him and leave him in just a diaper and had him sleep with us, so I could monitor him.

It could be Roseola, a virus, which causes a high fever and then when the fever breaks after a few days, usually a rash develops all over the body. My Dr. said just monitor fever...??? Good luck!

Around 8 months my baby had a high fever (almost 104) with no other symptoms for about 24 hrs before we took her in. The doctor guessed that it was Roseola but unfortunately with this, you can't be sure until the fever breaks usually after 2-3 days and a rash develops. It's harmless and the rash clears on it's on in about a week, but in the meantime it's freaky not knowing why the high fever. She also had to have blood and urine taken (by catheter) to make sure it was a UTI and thankfully everything was fine. Roseola is contagious and common among babies around that age. Once I knew what it was, it seemed like every mom I talked to had experienced it or heard of it.

My daughter had that a couple weeks ago (she is 15 months). It ended up being roseola which is a virus that you can't do anything about. If she breaks out in a rash in another day or so, you will know that is what it was. The rash is a good sign and her temp should go down once you see it. The rash is not uncomfortable for them and should only last 1-2 days.

In my case it has been a viral infection with my kids Usually nothing to worry about. However mommy knows best. You can call the dr or go to an urgent care and get your child checked.

Yes, I would call doctor tomorrow and take her in. It is a high temperature. My son ended up with nothing, he just tends to get fevers here and there. However, they told me to bring him in when it is high.
Best of Luck,

I'd take her in to the pediatrician. One time my daughter had a fever like that but no other symptoms, no coughing or sneezing, eating fine, playing fine but I took her in to the doctor anyway. Turns out she had strep. No way I would have caught that without taking her in.
