High-risk Pregnancy Sonogram Specialist

Hi Ladies,

I hope my request makes sense: I am an over 35 mom pregnant with #2 (my age makes me 'high-risk'). Because of this, my OBGYN sent me to a doctor that specializes in doing sonograms for high-risk pregnancies. After what turned out to be a horrible experience (baby seems fine, Dr. David Gore at Plano Presby seemed 'high'), Im trying to find another doctor who does the same thing for a second opinion. Does anyone know of such a doctor, preferably in N. Dallas/Plano area, but for someone good, Id travel.

Thank you!!
A.

I used Dr. Sandra Brothers at Ob/Gyn Associates of Dallas (downtown at Baylor).
Here's her website:
http://www.obgynofdallas.com/index.htm

She worked along the maternal-fetal medicine docs that office inside Baylor (Dr.'s Wallace and Rosnes) to get me and my daughter through an incredibly complicated pregnancy.

Her partner, Dr. Melissa Crochet, is also excellent. If it weren't for those two ladies I would have gone NUTS. Both my baby and I are doing great thanks to their skills. I highly recommend. Also, the NICU at Baylor is excellent.

I see you have lots of recs for Dr. Erin Koster in Plano. I just went to her for a Level II sono(I'm 36 pregnant with my second). My OB sends all of her patients to Dr. Koster for a Level II sono. I just have to chime in and say she was awesome! She was the most friendly, sweet, warm doctor yet knowledgeable, too. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Caruth - he is in Plano and I can not say enough great things about him. He allowed my pregnancy to be restful and enjoyable. He is in Plano right next to Presby.

I have two sets of twins and was an older mother and I had to have frequent high-level sonograms. I found that there are only a few high-risk ob-gyns in the Dallas area. I used North Texas Perinatals, the same practice as Dr. Gore & Trimmer. Primarily I used Dr. Matsumoto (I think that's the way to spell his name.) Dr. Matsumoto has twins also and he had a great bedside manner. I think that he left the practice. I did use Dr Trimmer a few times and I thought he was nice. I think all of them will seem expensive to you until you go over your deductible and/or hit your family maximum because the high-level sonogram is very expensive. I think every visit I had was between $600 and $900 before insurance coverage.

I saw Dr. Brown-Elliott at Med. Center of Plano and I saw her partner Dr. Matsumoto too at Med. City. Didn't care for Dr. Brown-Elliott's bedside manner but she was very very good with her clinical evaluation. She was blunt and matter of fact but I'd rather have that than a warm fuzzy from a Dr. who couldn't read a sonogram. You have to figure out what's important. I liked Dr. Matsumoto. He was very personable and thorough. We did a level 2 sono with him before deciding on doing an amnio or not. He took his time, explained what he was doing, explained what our baby's measurements were and how they fit into 'normal'. Based on that we decided to not do the amnio (I was 36 almost 37) and everything was fine. I don't think you could go wrong with either doctor. Good luck.

I had my 2nd child - a boy who is now 14 mos. & seems healthy so far..THANK YOU GOD!!..when I was 39 & turned 40 2 mos. later. My OB/GYN - Dr. Walter F. Evans (whom I LOVE DEARLY & by the way also delivered my daughter 9 years ago. He is however very "straight to the point" but also very caring.)sent me to a "High-risk pregnancy sonogram specialist by the name of Dr. Rhinehart located at Presbyterian Hospital located in Dallas at Walnut Hill Lane & 75 Central Expressway. He was SO AWESOME & it was such a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!! I got to keep a total of (3)VHS Video Tapes to take home of my sonogram. Dr. Rhinehart's ph# is 214/696-5757. I live in Plano & continue to make the "trek" to Presbyterian-Dallas because I have consistently found REALLY GOOD doctors there.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU & YOURS!!!

PS. Children keep you young if you try to keep a positive attitude & trust in God. HE gave you this BEAUTIFUL GIFT.

I used Dr. Carol Brown-Elliott as well and absolutely loved her. She monitored me and my twin girls from 16 weeks until I delivered at 34 weeks. Once I got to 24 weeks or so (it is such a blur now) I was seeing her twice a week until I went into labor. Needless to say I got to know her very well. One of my girls was IUGR and she took great care in watching and making sure my little one was always growing and never in distress. i gave birth to 2 HEALTHY baby girls and i could not of done it without Dr. Brown Elliott.

I actually agree with Debi A. I am currently seeing Dr. Brown-Elliott and I am not impressed with her bedside manners. During my last sonogram, she chews gum non-stop while doing the sonogram and it's very distracting. She also didn't explain very well the result of the sonogram. I guess it was because I was the last patient that day and she just wasn't very responsive. She is not horrible, but she is definitely not great. I will definitely likely choose a different specialist next time.

Our first pregnancy was extremely high risk, we have identical twin girls who shared a placenta, and we were seen every two weeks for ultrasounds. We also saw Dr. Gore our last few visits before we delivered because Dr. Trimmer was leaving the practice (I think he has come back now though) and I was less than impressed with him. When I was pregnant with my son last year I had an ovarian cyst the size of a softball that they wanted to remove in my 4th month because of the risk of it rupturing or causing premature labor. We saw Dr. Thomas Albert with Southwestern Perinatal Associates (he was in the complex next to Centennial Hospital in Frisco but I think he may have an office in Plano too) and I really liked him. I also have a friend who saw him throughout her 2 twin pregnancies and liked him alot. His # is ###-###-####. Good luck.

I saw Dr. Albert at Plano Presby. I was high risk, so I saw him at 9 weeks for a base-line. Sadly, I miscarried, and he confirmed it at 10 weeks. For a terrible situation, I believe he handled me with care.

Best wishes,
J.

I am in my third pregnancy with twin girls and my regular OB has sent me to see Dr. Brown-Elliot at Medical Center of Plano several times. I noticed someone posted a negative comment about her but, I have had nothing but great experiences with her. She has always been very down to earth and explains everything about the sonogram in terms you can understand as she goes. I thought she was very sweet and personable. My husband even liked her and he is a hard man to make a good impression on. The only negative thing I can say is that I have yet to get there and get in at my appointment time but, that is pretty typical of any speaialists office I have ever been to. The name of her office is North Texas Perinatal Associates and it looks like they have offices at Med Cntr of Plano and Presby Plano that can accomodate you. The # is ###-###-####. Good Luck!

OK first off..... Being 35 does NOT (I repeat DOES NOT) make you high risk. That's a load of ***** in my book. Being overweight, diabetic, with heart problems, etc and over 35 is one thing, but age alone does not make you high risk (now off my soap box).

I went to Dr Andersen at Baylor for my level 2 and amnio (there was no pressure for it too I might add). He was soo sooo nice. Never did he (nor my regular OB for that matter) treat me like I was a freak for being 40 and pregnant. On the contrary. If you have a Dr that's making you feel that way, I suggest you find someone else who will work with you. If they're that afraid of your age alone, they're not that good a DR imho. I mean, how would they react if you did have a real complication or high risk??

If you have any questions, message me off line and I'd be glad to share.

Dr. Koster is an amazing and caring doctor. She is comfortable to be around and explains things in everyday language. I saw her when I was pregnant with twins during my first pregnancy. I ended up having complications and she came to see me in the hospital to make sure everything was okay along with my OB. I highly recommend her!!! I'm seeing her now for my second pregnancy since I'm high risk for premature labor.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

I'm 37 and expecting my second baby. With both pregnancies I've been seen by Dr. Albert of Southwestern Perinatalogists who handles high-risk pregnancy sonograms and other risk-related pregnancy tests. I've been happy with this doctor who also offices in Plano Presby.

Hope this helps.

Hi A.,

My first pregnancy was at age 37 and we are actively trying to get pregnant again. I still have Dr. Jimenez's number in my cell phone as I will be using him again when we get pregnant. He is by Presyterian Dallas in the Margo Perot building. He only takes patients by doctor referral, so you would have to ask your doctor for a referral to him.

His name is Juan Jimenez and his office number is ###-###-####. He is excellent and very, very knoweledgeable. Also, his staff is just wonderful!

Best of luck. Please send me a message if you have any questions.

Hi A.

I totally recommend Dr Carol Brown-Elliott. She saved my life with both of my pregnancies - no joke! My OB was so incompetant - I thank God for her. I read your responses and I disagree with the one who trashed Dr. Brown-Elliott. Being over 35 myself, I wanted a dr who was candid with me and not "sugar-coating"...this is my life and my babies lives we are talking about here.

I hope you use her - good luck on your quest.

I'm 26, but had a child with Down syndrome when I was 20 so even though my chances of having another child with DS aren't increased, they still treat me like a high risk case. I just had my 3rd 2months ago and went to Dr. Erin Koster throughout my pregancy for sonos at Medical Center Plano (I think she has a Plano Presby office too) and I just LOVED her

I don't know if anyone else has told you about him, but when I was pregnant with my twins they considered me high-risk, I went to Dr. Mark Peters at Centennial Medical Center in Frisco. But both of his partners are great, too. It's very professional. =)

We used two with our twins and with our son b/c I was high risk. I can say NOT to use Dr. Brown-Elliott. I have three friends who used her and her bluntness and bedside manners were the topic of many conversations - most filled with anger, tears and fear.

We used one who has moved back to GA but the other was Dr. Mark Peter....he's part of a huge group in the Dallas area and we saw him in Plano. He was very good -
