Hemorrhoid?

This is probably the most embarrassing question I have ever asked on here but I need some advice. I have had a little bump on the outside of my rectum for about a month now. It feels like a pimple with a rough top. It has not gotten bigger and is usually painless. Sometimes it does hurt and I put Preparation H on it and that helps with the discomfort. It hasn't gotten any better. Is it a hemmorhoid? I have never had one before. If so, how do I make it go away? I am healthy and do not "strain". Do I see a doctor?

I just wanted to add that I don't really see how it could be a wart since that is a sexually transmitted disease and neither I nor my husband have warts anywhere. I do wear thongs and I notice the pain/discomfort is worse after wearing one. I have never had a problem with them for the last 15 years. Maybe I am getting old?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Maybe I described it wrong since I went to the doctor and it is a hemorroid. Maybe I am being too sensitive but I wish the ladies who suggested a wart had said, something like, "Its probably a hemorroid. It's unlikely, but could possibly be something else like a skin tag or a wart". You just don't throw around certain words. HPV is one of them.

Usually a hemorrhoid has continuing discomfort and Prep H helps. They can usually clear up on their own in about a week or two.

Straining is not always an issue. You can get them from sitting too much, too.

You may want to see a doctor. Better to be safe than sorry.

I have them lots of them & they do get huge bleed & are very uncomfortably I have struggled with them for 7 yrs now I have them in result of pregnancy & vaginal deliveries. After my first I was told to remove them but didn't due to I wasn't done having children & that would make them worse as I did have more so after 2 more they are intolerable i'm just waitng to get back on health insurance & have my 3rd child a bit more independent before I have a surgical procedure done i'm needing 3 surgeries as a result of after having kids that were born vaginally I have so to speak fallen apart.
You can see a Dr to make sure that it is a hemmrhoid more than likely it is Preparation H is a good product so is the wipes I will use those with the ointment,if it bleeds after you poo keep an eye on it some are internall & will rupture or tear & bleed more than a paper cut if it gets bigger or worse in anyway you can see the Dr or just wait till your next pap.
They are embarrasing my hubby doesn't understand the pain that comes from these.

If it's rough, it might be a kind of wart. Don't be embarrassed - it's very common. It's a tough area to see, obviously, so it's hard to know what you are dealing with. A hemorrhoid is usually soft - it's really a varicose vein and they are also common. Sometimes they go away on their own, sometimes they can be treated with silver nitrate applied by the doctor - if not your regular one, then a specialist in a quick procedure. If it bleeds, it's probably a hemorrhoid. If that happens, do not use the Prep H or any other product. They can cause pain and also itching. But this doesn't sound like a hemorrhoid to me if it's a pimple-like thing with a rough surface. Don't panic, don't be embarrassed, just have it looked at by someone. They will also feel inside your rectum (feels like a pelvic exam and takes 2 seconds) to see if there are any more inside. If it's a wart, it's caused by a virus and it can spread and cause more. So waiting forever is probably not a great idea. It could also be some sort of mole, although the pain is unusual, and if it's irregular in shape, it should be looked at and possibly removed. Until you know, you can't treat it yourself. Again, don't be embarrassed - we all have stuff "down there" and can't see it!
