Help with Potty Training Twin Boys

I have twin boys that are 6 now. I also live on a farm which helped. I know you cant do this in town but I thought it helped to let them go outside. See who can shot farther kind of thing. Make it fun. They will get it I also have girls and boys are easier.

Put Cheerios in the toilet and let them try to hit them if they will go that far make it a game going every hour and see if they would like that. Also, kinda rough but let them know they cannot go to special places like swimming or to aunts uncles or grandma's unless they start going to potty. this will work sometimes.

When I potty trained my son, I lived in a rural area and let him try to water the trees outside. He was trained in 5 days. If that is something you can try let me know how it works for you.

I have a 3 year old boy that turned three in Jan. He has been potty trained for about three months now. I was frustrated because I startet right at the age of 2 and my daughter was potty trained right at 2. I realized though you need to introduce the potty to them and make it fun to go on the potty and always ask them if they need to potty and sit them on it but the rest is up to them. Like walking and talking they do it at there own time. Just one day (soon) they will be ready and you wont believe how easy it was, because they were ready. That is my advice on potty training I hope it helps and I wish you all the best!

I had a hard time with that my self. Sorry I don't have anything helpful. Just make sure they are ready to be trained. Don't force the issue unless you're sure they are ready. It becomes a power struggle then and that can cause frayed nerves for both parent and child. Good Luck!!!

You sound just like me last summer with my twin boyz. I had tried everything I could think of and had no results. What I ended up doing is giving them jelly beans. I hated rewarding with food but it was the only thing that worked. They got 1 if they went pee, 2 if they pooped and an extra jelly bean if they stayed dry. I think it also helped to havi them in the bathroom together. I would praise up a storm if one was "a big boy," and gave that one a lot of positive attention. If the other one started to speak out I'd remind him that his brother was a "big boy" and if he used the potty he would be a "big boy" too.

I realized early on that they were trying to keep wetting themselves in order to go back to pull-ups, when the realized they would be stuck in wet clothes and have to change themselves it wasn't fun anymore and they got better.

With the one I did have to have them "clean" their own underware when they pooped in them. He would have to wash them out in the shower and they had to clean themselves. It was a little on the mean side but they had to realize that they did have control but that it wasn't much fun when they had to do all the work.

My mother did something funny when she was training my brother. She put him outside (they lived in the country) and had him pee in a mayo jar. I know that this isn't what you are looking for, but I when I was growing up I never found pee on our toilet! You could do this in the bathtub.

how old are they?

my son is the same way.. will go for daddy and even says he's holding his pee pees for daddy..lol
but won't go for me.. i have a daughter who is 9 1/2 months younger and i hope to get them both potty trained this summer before my son starts preschool. i hear the summer is the best time because you can be outside and let them run in underwear and the accidents dont' get on your floors..lol
that's my plan for the summer..wish i had more for you.. i'm looking for more help as well..lol

Hi, C.. What is your mother-in-law doing differently to get them to go for her? Also, try one of their favorite treats & only give it to them when they do go in the potty. My mom used M&Ms with me....each time I pottied in the "big girl" potty, I would get 2-3 of them. This works with a favorite fruit or juice too! You can also use money...1 penny each time they go potty on their own...pennies add up quick & they can buy small things for themselves. (I know they're young, but you'd be surprised how much they understand.) Good luck...just remember to be patient =D

I broke down and bought my son a "Potty Scotty" doll. He is anatomically correct, comes with underwear and a bottle. You squeeze his leg to make him go potty(this way he can make it to the potty in time or have an accident, your choice). I think what actually did it though was that my son got a pair of spiderman underwear for his birthday and his older brother got up and put them on in the morning. I made him take them off and give them back but explained that if he wanted to wear them he had to stay dry. He's been potty trained ever since.
I also heard of buying special toys or books they can only have while they are on the potty. Good luck!

I had a hard time potty training my son and someone suggested that I should leave him naked (his bottom half)when we are at home. I thought that it was a strange thing to try, but finally felt desperate enough to do it. I just put an oversized tee-shirt on him and nothing on the bottom and it didn't take very long at all until he was completely potty trained.

Wow twins! We did the sticker chart for our boys as well so for every time they tried, for going 1 , and then for going 2. We also used the cheerio trick. With my girls we did the once you stay dry for a week we will go to the store and you can pick out your own big girl underware.

My cousin....took the little potty in the yard and played outside all day with her kids and everytime the kid needed to go they would use the potty.

I remember that feeling - the deadline for them to be potty trained looming for pre-school! I didn't think I was ever going to get my twins potty trained! My boys would wait until they had a pull-up on to take a nap and then poop in their pull-up so they didn't have to poop on the potty - they pretty much peed all the time in the potty. The dr told me I had to just suck it up and try for a week with no pull-ups at nap time and let them have a few accidents and they would eventually learn. I did this and that is what finally got them going both #1 and #2 on the potty. My boys were not ready at the same time - one has always done things quicker than the other and the same was true with potty training. They just won't more than likely do it at the same time so don't get discouraged if one is doing it and the other is not.
