Okay Mamas,
Does anyone know of anything natural/homeopathic that helps with general pregnancy nausea? My pre-natals help a bit in the morning, but I get very queasy again in the afternoon/evening. I feel like I've tried so much already, and I don't want to spend more money on something that I've heard nothing about. Please help if you know of anything!
Thank you sooooo much.

What can I do next?

Ginger works nicely for nausea - Crystalized ginger or ginger tea. Not just for pregnancy, but also good for sea sickness, car sickness, motion sickness/nausea of any kind. Great for kids too. My 8 yr. old daughter gets car sick (as I did as a kid) and we use an herbal oil called MotionEaze. You can find it at most health food stores or I've even seen it at Wal-mart with all the OTC motion sickness stuff. Hope this helps.

I had terrible morning sickness... and I tried EVERYTHING anyone suggested. I got sick the moment my brain woke up in the morning.. I didn't even have time to try to munch on crackers first! The thing that helped me the most was tea. I drank hot tea in the morning... and it just really calmed my stomach.

If it gets really terrible and you want to try a medication.. I second the Zophran recommendation... it's really amazing stuff.

Good luck!

Blech. I sure do feel ya! I was sick up until about 20 weeks with two of my pregnancies. I tried ginger capsules, which did nothing for me. I also tried the seabands on my wrists, which only made my wrists itchy. The only thing which worked for me was an antinausea medication prescribed by my doctor. I did find that sipping iced tea with a little lemon juice in it helped, too.

Lemons and/or lemonade are good for nausea. I had always heard it but never needed it until my third child. I was sick morning, noon and night. I couldn't bring myself to eat lemons, I was too sick, however I bought those packets of crystal light lemonade that you mix with a bottle of water- I lived off of those for 3 mos. and it really did help me. It's hard to give you a sure-fire cure because everyone is so different. Give the lemons a try though....

I had terrible nausea all nine months with my first, and so far with my second. The best thing my doctor ever said to me was, "if you don't feel good, forget whatever healthy books you've read, and eat what sounds good. " She also suggested "something carbonated and sugary :-)" with a nice wink wink. I really found that potato products and a coke did the trick. I was often found getting a french fry and a coke from Wendys, and I've got a perfectly healthy baby boy! Keep up with your prenatals, and eat whatever sounds best. Oh, and yes, the preggie pop drops are YUMMY!

ginger is supposed to be great for nausea! I had it so bad though my dr finally prescribed something for it so I would quit losing weight. I think you can drink ginger tea or even eat ginger bread cookies, things like that!

Hope this helps!

You can try ginger capsules or ginger brew at the health food store to sip on. The ginger brew contains more ginger than the typical ginger ale in the store. Also Try taking a b-100 complex, time released. you can take 50 am and pm and that may help a lot. Some of the nausea can be caused by baby taking your folic acid, b6 and b12 as more and more red blood cells are produced your body uses huge quantities of this and the regular prenatals don't contain enough often as well as being gone in 2 hours as a water soluble, therefore leaving you queazy again in a few hours. It can't hurt since it is water soluble so that anything you can't use is flushed out rapidly.

I tried ALL homeopathic remedies for nausea... ginger, peppermint, small meals throughout the day... nothing worked. I was severely sick the entire 9 months, and close to hospitization several times due to dehydration. (Every now and then, small sips of root beer helped for about an hour).

I also tried a series of prescription meds that didn't work. The ONLY thing that worked was a prescription called Zofran (Zophran)(originally for chemotherapy children). During my first pregnancy it was incredibally expensive ($80 for 10 pills), but now that I am pregnant again, they just came out with a generic brand and it is much more affordable. Ask your Dr about it. (If it doesn't work, they can do a Zofran drip, a nurse in my ob's office was on one during her pregnancy and it helped).

Oh, I never did try the seasickness bracelet, I heard it can help. Ask your Dr, or I think you can buy them at pharmacies.

Also, try a different prenatal pill, some are better for those with nausea than others. All of mine made me sick as well, but I switched to Tandem, and I take it with a small sip of water right before I go to bed, and it hasn't made me sick once.

I was miserably nauseated for 3 months. The only thing that made me feel better was lemon-related items. I LOVED lemonade or tea with lots of lemon juice. I loved lemon Jolly Ranchers, even lived on those during labor at the hospital. And, lemon drops, the old fashioned kind with sugar crystals on the outside of the drop. Also, the smell of lemon really helped quash the quesiness.

As far as foods that helped, nibbling on crackers or pretzels did help some and I began to eat hard-boiled eggs everyday, which helped the hungries, but also minimized some of the nausea toward the end of my 1st trimester.

I've also heard lots about ginger, sucking on crystalized ginger, like a lollipop and also sipping on ginger tea. I never tried it, as I didn't hear about it until after my pregnancy.

I hope some of this helps. I know how miserable nausea can be..... Many Blessings - L.

One thing my doctor recommended that really helped me was caffine free regular coke. Might sound strange, but it was one of the only things that really helped. That, in conjunction with regular snacking on crackers helped me get through the day.

I personally did not have problems with nausea during pregnancy but I regularly get nauseated now for some reason.

I bought a product called Colic Ease for my baby daughter who was horribly uncomfortable due to reflux and tried it on myself out of desparation one night and it really worked! The website is http://www.colicease.com. You can buy this locally at the Family Health Market on Preston road in Frisco, I think they were asking $17 per bottle. Worth every penny to me.

I was really sick the first never-ending three months of preg. The only think I could find that would help was munching on saltine crackers and they preggipops (lollipops or just candy) that they sell at pregnancy clothes places or you can just go to www.ask.com and enter in preggipops and order them over internet (just around $5). They worked really good and easy to take on the go. I also heard about ginger snap cookies, lemon in your water. Stay away from greasy foods.

Good luck-Liz

Hi A.,

For my clients, I have a couple of recommendations:

First of all, be sure you're eating several small healthy meals/snacks throughout the day.

Ginger root, grate a little bit, placed in hot water to steep for several minutes and sipped

Liquid bentonite clay (http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/bentonite...)

Homeopathic nux vomica. Homeopathic remedies are placed under your tongue and allowed to absord.

Vitamin B6 is reputed to also help some pregnant women with nausea and vomiting.

Both bentonite clay and nux vomica can be bought at a health food store.

Here's an article that is informative and might be helpful as well.

Hope you're able to find something that works for you!

I completely understand your plight. I had morning sickness gone wrong!!!! So bad we decided not to have another baby.

I tried Ginger but it didnt help with my condition...actually nothing did. I threw up for 8 hours straight! I even made a bed in the bathroom because I was sick so much. I couldnt even drink water with out it coming right back up.

They tried phenergan with me but it did nothing. Then they put me on Zophran pills...also did nothing. Then they tried me on the combonation of Phenergan and Zophran...still nada. I was put on Reglan to help hold food down...and Protonix for stomach acid. What finaly help for me was the Zophran pump added with Phenergan tablets. The pump is like an insulin pump in which every two days you stick a niddle in your hip, leg or stomach and it leaves behind a cathider and constantly pumps medications inside your body. Steroids also helped me over some of the humps. With out this medication I would have starved to death and most likely lost the baby.

I sadly was sick the whole preg in and out of the hospital A LOT! The medications didnt hurt her at all! She is perfect and healthy!

My best advice is eat food that you know wont hurt coming back up. Stay away from things that are acidic (orange juice is the worst). Keep away from tomato sauces and anything oily. Also lettuce is hard to digest and will most likely come back up. Best bet stay away from anything heavy (steaks). And dont over stuff yourself...small portions!

I had a prob with over salivating and it would make me nausiated so I would chew gum all the time...long lasting flavor gums and I would suck on lolly pops and pepperments. Try the preggy pops I hear they help!

I hope you are not as bad as I was...but it too will pass and in the end you have a beautiful baby and it will all be worth it!

If you go into the hospital make sure they dont give you Reglan in your IV. It made me feel as it I wanted to jump out of my skin I constantly had to keep shaking my legs and arms...horible feeling! It is a side effect of the drug when given in the IV.

i would always take my prenatals before bed...then in the morning when i wake up, before getting out of bed have a couple saltines, or oyster crackers & water. then i lived off of jolly ranchers! i dont know why but they are the only things that helped me.....but make sure you still try to eat small meals & snacks, bc if you have too much candy & nothing else you will have another tummy ache!

I know this sounds crazy, but chocolate helps. Just get a chocolate bar like Hershey's (I liked the dark chocolate) and let it melt in your mouth.

I had learned about using chocolate for seasickness on a fishing trip in the Gulf from and old man on the boat. I get seasickness really bad, but it helped. When I was sick with my 2nd pregnancy, I was desperate and tried it and it worked.
