I started my kids on sippy cups when they were 6 months old. It helps out with their teeth a lot. I started introducing them little by little on the solid foods at the age of 8 months. I gave them water at 4 months. They all are living fine.

I would introduce the sippy cup with juice at the same time. That way the baby doesnt assosciate the bottle with juice. If the baby likes the juice she will eagerly figure out the sippy cup. It may be slow at first, but the baby will love it. This is what I am doing with my 5 month old.

As far as timing, it is when you think you and the baby are ready. My first daughter was on solids at 3 months, my youngest just started at 5 months. When she started watching me eat I started her on them.

general rule is to not give a baby juice in a bottle. so start with the sippy cup with juice. I started both my kids on solids just before six months and juice at six months. i like to mix the baby food with rioce cereal to thicken it up a bit and make it a little less sweet. I think the rule is to start with fruits first, one at a time, like one new one a week so you can watch for alergies.... then move on to vegies and dinners. personally i never gave my kids the meat baby food because they realy don't need it at that age abd it stinks... but i also mixed fuits and vegies form the get go. If the baby has teeth a bitter biscut is great, my seven month old son loves them! but you gotta watch to make sure they don;t break any off. None of my kids ever did though, but then when it comes to food my kids advanced early... guess they love to eat! good luck

With my baby I use to mix baby food "fruit" into her formula like a milkshake say if she takes 4oz of milk I would do 2oz of fruit and the rest her formula. As far as sippy cup I started when she turned one but she is 15mos now and she is better at it. I did water already try the flavored water for instance the Propel from gatorade. Juice I watered it down at first..Hope this helps..

I started our little guy w/ a sippy cup at around 4-6 mos w/ water. I didn't stop breastfeeding him until he was 1 but he never really took a bottle all that much. I always give him 1/2 juice 1/2 water when I do give him juice. Another thing to try once he gets a little older. V8 is now making this fusion juice drink that has a serving of veggies in each glass. All of the pediatricians I speak w/ tell me to give no more than 4 oz of juice per day if possible. Hope this helps!

L.,
I have 3 boys all of whom started on cereal at 2-3 weeks (not months) old mixed with formula and half a small jar of baby food (the fruits). They were given that 2 times a day and then fruit, veggies and a "meat" for dinner. You can substitute fruit juice for the fruit solid if you like, it's just a different consistency. Just remember to only introduce one new food at a time for a period of at least a week so if there is any reaction you know what it's from. As for using a sippy cup, when they can hold their bottle (usually around 6 months), they can also hold a sippy cup. Fill it with water or diluted juice that they can sip on throughout the day. Hope this helps.

I believe you can start you baby on juices and water now. When my baby was two months old, he was introduced to oatmeal. A few weeks later I introduced him to the spoon with a mixture of applesauce and oatmeal. Today, at four months old, he is now eating four different types of solid food and drinks diluted apple juice.

You will want to check with your pediatrician, but mine said to start with veggies and then move to fruit. I guess so that you don't get them used to the sweetness of the fruit. As far as juice, everything I have read said that 6 months is too young, in fact my 2 year doesn't even get juice fvery often. Juice is full of empty calories and lots of sugar, even if it is 100% juice.

Again check with your Dr. but that is what I've learned with my two kids:)

You can start with clear water and juices along with formula and breast milk, but I would wait a little longer if you can...maybe 9 months. You can start rice cereal, then move up to the jar cereal, then fruits and veggies. Only introduce a new food every three days, in case of a food allergy, then you can identify what food would be the culprit! Good luck!
