I need to find a dentist for my 4 year old son who is very nervous and restless, He must be sensitive, friendly and patient and considerate of parents' wishes regarding my kid's teeth treatment. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I use Dr. Neidenthal in Holly Springs. Their number is ###-###-####. My son was 3 and he was scared to death of the dentist! They took him in the next room while I was having my teeth cleaned and let him play with the really large kangaroo. He was allowed to "brush" his teeth and use all of the dental tools on the kangaroo so he could see what they all did. Once he got to play with all of them, he was 100% comfortable and allowed the dentist to clean his teeth. The staff is very friendly with children and adults! I highly reccomend them!!!

Hello,

If you are in the Raleigh/Cary/Apex there is a dentist specifically for children. Dr. Geeta Bhat. I have a 2 year old and so far so good with our experience there. http://www.geetadds.com/

Hi M.,

We have lived in 2 areas of Raleigh and are currently in WF and we have been with the same dentist for 13 years, Michael Bolus off Falls of Neuse, just south of Strickland ###-###-####). My daughter was 4 when we moved to the area and my son was born here so, it's the only practice my children remember. And the hygienist is who they'll see most often (hopefully) so they're the ones who are really important. They're great with kids yet we all go to the same practice and don't have to move the kids to another practice because they "age out" of a pediatric dentistry practice.

If you're in Wake Forest, Dr. Ed Suh is highly recommended ###-###-####).

If you're in the Cary/Apex area I highly recommend Dr. Dan Howell. He specializes in child dentistry. My daughter has been his patient since she got her first tooth. She is now 13. Good luck.

Hi,
I asked this questions as well recently - but I needed someone who accepted Medicaid. We went to Dr. Ferzil with Smile of Cary. My son had a good experience. I also asked who NOT to go to. Search the Mama Source past posts because people seemed to have more bad experiences that good.

We went to Dr. Will Cheek at Craig Q. Adams up by Falls River. Dr. Cheek has a little boy so he is very good with kids - he had me bring my girls in with me to my visit and sit on my lap so they could see what it is all about, and then did a "practice" look in the mouth and showing all the instruments and "ride" in the chair so that when they came in for their treatment they would not be scared. Both did great. They give the kids big sunglasses to wear and are very encouraging and positive and have a nice treasurebox for afterwards. Plus he has Saturday hours which is nice if you have another little one you want to leave home. Can't say enough good things about Dr. Cheek!!

Hi M.. I have an almost 3 y/o son and I take him to Carolina Pediatric Dentistry at Wakefield, Dr. E LaRee Johnson. (I think they have more than one office) It is a great place! My son has been there twice now and he LOVES it. They have a play area in waiting room to keep them occupied with some computerized games & like a little playhouse to climb. Dr. Johnson is so kind, caring & patient. She has two young children of her own which I think helps. Even though we've only been there twice, she has been very good about discussing treatment & options with me. (My son has an extra tooth) All the staff does their best to make it a pleasant, fun experience. My son's favorite part is that they get little prizes after each part of the exam, like stickers & toothbrushes, and after he sees the dentist he gets a token to take to over to a prize machine where they can pick out a toy. The number to the wakefield office is ###-###-####. Good luck with your decision.

M.,
the best children dentist are the PEDOdontist
pedodontist are trained to treat children, the reason why the choose this field is because they love working with kids, their entire staff are trained to make kids feel as confortable as possible, they have many many tricks up their sleeves to get kids to do what needs to be done in a playfull fun way.
However word of mouth is the best way to pick a good one.
one the first visit they'nt do much to your son, He needs to get use to seing the office and relating with something and not something scary.
At this age your child shouldn't much treatment, infact other than EXAM(the dentist looking for cavities or other problems), CLEANING which is brushing the teeth ,
and Xrays are not possible most of the time at that age.
However if the child needs lotsof treatment, they will explain the options, wich in most cases at this age is problably some tipe of sedation, ussualy is oral where the patien is still awake and breathing on thier own, no needles on the arm.
Also if the dentist wont let you go back with your child to the treatment room, dont worry so much, they'll know if its better for the child to be with you or without you, they know what heir doing.
I hope this helps
L. s.
