Help with Baby Crying All Night

Hello,
Last night when it was way past time for my 9 month old to go to sleep he cried and cried, finally fell asleep, got up a half an hour later crying, fell asleep finally , got up again crying, fell asleep and continued this pattern until around 1am last night. I don't know why. He didn't have a temperature or runny nose, maybe his stomach hurt? He did have a hard tummy. I guess my question is, has your baby ever done this? It seems to me like he's been doing this more often lately. I don't know what to do or how to help him. What would you do? Thanks

What can I do next?

Our little girl has always done that right before getting sick. She still has nights like that now at 2 1/2 when she's not feeling well. I also agree that it could be teething.

Another thing is that he might be going through a growth spurt and/or is hungry more than normal. He could also be ready for a developmental jump. Our little girl has always had a hard time sleeping right before a big breakthrough (standing, walking, etc.).

I would call his doctor about his belly feeling hard, however. I know that our pediatrician has said that a hard tummy is not a good sign and that tummies should be soft. It's probably nothing, but better to be safe. Hope you get more sleep soon! :-)

teeth constipation tummy ache.... i have a 9 month old and generally when this happens, I let her cry for 20 min or so and if she is still really crying or crys over and over, i go get her. I feed her a little and give ibuprofen.... little ones cant tell you when they hurt... ibuprofen is not just for fevers.... usually, a 4oz bottle, a tsp or 1/2tsp depending on weight of ibuprofen and a little snuggle will solve the problem.

In addition to the mom who thought it was teething...
If you find that your baby may be teething, you might want to try tylenol or Motrin this will help him sleep better and dull the pain. I think my 7 month old is going through the same thing...but no sign of any teeth yet.

Good Luck!

C.,

Were you at my house last night? It sounds the same, only my daughter is 15 months old. Her problem right now is that she's teething in a major way. One top tooth made its appearance recently, there's another not far behind that one, two more on top not far behind that, and two on the bottom not far behind the top teeth.

Yeah.

If he'll let you, check his gums for any swelling, soreness, or little white spots. Those are all indicators for both my kids that teeth are about ready to pole through.

Hope this helps,
Sleepless today,
Melissa

Hi C.,
You indicated that he had a hard tummy, perhaps he need to have a BM. Perhaps a fruit during the day would loosen his stool. Also, just try swaddling him (wrapping in receiving blanket) and just rocking or dancing with him. My kids loved it when I danced (the music didn't matter, sometimes it was country, jazz or Motown).
Good luck

It sounds he was having some gas pain. I was facing these nightmares with my LO since her birth time. A friend suggested me to start babies magic tea. I did really work and now no sleep issue.

Hi C.,

I would let him sleep with you! I so wish somebody had told me about co-sleeping with my first child. We suffered through 4 years of sleep issues. Which were solved when we put a loft bed above our own. I now co-sleep with my son who will be 2 next month. And although I am encouraging him to sleep with his sister or just move to his own bed, for the most part, we are all happy with this arrangement and most importantly, everyone gets lots of sleep! BTW, Dad has a bed in the other room which I go and visit when I want to!

Hi C.,
My second daughter (now almost 2) had major sleep issues until she was 10 months old. I remember doing my research too that stated around 9-10 months seperation anxiety can peak and they are downright scared to be by themselves at night. One way you can tell is if the immediatly begin to calm once they see you in the room. If they know that they are going to get the comfort they need by you going in there and offering cuddles and relaxation, it helps to ease the anxiety. I tended to give my daughter tylenol just to try and rule any pain out of the equation, it doesn't hurt! I know how hard the long nights are, but staying calm and remembering that this too shall pass usually helped me! Hope you get more sleep around your house!
