Help with Acne Scars

During each of my pregnancies I developed acne which left scarring on my cheeks. When I finish breastfeeding my now 3-month old I plan to go to the dermatologist for treatment, but in the meantime I'm looking for an OTC product that will help diminish the appearance of the spots. I was thinking microdermabrasion is the way to go but wanted to see what worked for others. Please note I already have an Avon rep and a Mary Kay consultant--I am looking for personal experiences and product recommendations, not solicitations. Thank you!

What can I do next?

I sell BeautiControl and I would recommend microderm abrasion. It is the best treatment for scaring. I would not go to a spa, only because of the cost. It would run you around $150 and up. They would also want you to keep coming back for more treatments. If you buy an over the counter you will get many more treatments. You also want to make sure you have a buffer or brush that will facilitate the abrasion. But be careful that what you buy does not have an ingredient of sand, that will do more damage to your face. Also products with retinol will help renew the skin and increase the rate of removal of scaring from the skin.

I am a natural consultant and I recommend healing the skin from the inside out. Here is a list of natural options that you might try before using chemical treatments. I usually recommend starting with a couple things and then adjusting from there. Please let me know if I can help in any way. Congratulations on your new baby!

1. WATER: drink adequate purified water for proper internal fluid exchange
2. ALFALFA: aids in cleansing the blood; mild antibiotic effect toward
pathogenic bacteria
3. ZINC: promotes infection prevention & decreases acne scars
4. HERBAL LAXATIVE: reduces body bacterial count
5. LECITHIN: accommodates better absorption of fatty acids
6. BETA CAROTENE: nourishes epithelial skin tissue to resist infection
7. VITAMIN C: promotes immune function
8. GARLIC: anti-bacterial
9. B COMPLEX: improves blood flow to surface of skin
10. FLAXSEED OIL CAPSULES: helps repair damaged cells; keeps skin soft & smooth
11. PROBIOTIC: provides necessary “friendly bacteria”

I was really impressed with the Clearasil Ultra Scar Care system. It controlled my breakout without drying my skin, and significantly reduced my scars. It really was just the turnaround I needed after years of adult acne. I only used it until it ran out, and my skin has been better ever since! I would buy it again if I needed to, but I have seen lasting improvement, which is even better!

I've been unfortunate to have acne since I was a preteen into my adulthood (and especially during pregnancies).

I've not come across any good products that will reduce the appearance of scarring from a store. Personally, I'd keep the skin hydrated with a good moisturizer until you get to the Dermatologist and see what they recommend.

Good luck!

I've done microdermabrasion for my acne scars (I have minor ones on my chin, nothing too major) and it didn't work. It made my skin nice and clear, but it's a short-term solution, which is why you have to go back and back and back. I went for an 8-week session and it didn't diminish my scars at all. Just made the rest of my face look clear.

I personally haven't found any OTC stuff yet. I'm hoping to see what other people suggest!
