Help! Sleepwalking and Sleep-peeing?

Hi all!

So my 4 y/o DS is a frequent sleepwalker. We've taken steps to keep things safe for when it happens...but, for a while now--it's been a bit of a struggle, because he will unknowingly go off somewhere (other than the bathroom!) and pee. We've dealt with this 3 times in the past week alone.

DS still wears a pull-up at night. But for the most part, he simply wriggles it down enough and still manages to pee in the hallway/on top of a STACK of blankets/etc.

My MIL suggested last month during a stay at their place that we should think about instead having DS wear an actual, side-fastening diaper to bed. Presumably so he wouldn't be able to shimmy it down as easily and keep everything more 'contained' in the diaper.

Would this be an okay solution...? Has anyone else perhaps dealt with this that has any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Would he fit into diapers at this point? My kids would not have so don't know if that's an option for you. If so, I would.

A friend of mine used duct tape to keep her son from ripping his off. Extreme measures but worked.

If you type in sleepwalking into the search bar, and this issue, you'll get answers/suggestions. This has been asked before :) Good luck.

Talk to your pediatrician about it.
I'd be more worried that he'd be in danger while he sleep walks.
A gate on his bedroom door might keep him safe in his room though that doesn't help with the peeing issue.

Both of my children were sleepwalkers. Often children sleepwalk because they are not getting enough sleep or a good quality of sleep. My kids both snored and had sleep apnea. They both had their tonsils and adenoids out which helped. My son would start sleepwalking when he had to pee at night. The solution was to make him pee right before bed. If that didn’t work I would take him to the bathroom and have him go then take him back to bed without waking him. Not too many fluids before bed but not a full on restriction. At your son’s age his bladder is still growing so this will pass with time.

If this behaviour is new, I suggest calling doctor to ask if you should make an appointment.
