Help! My Son and I Have Herpangina

My son and I have Herpangina and I have never been more sick in my life. My son's started 7 nights ago and mine started 4 nights ago. My main concern is that we have a trip planned in 5 days where we will have to fly a 5 hour red eye (the only times to get a direct flight from Kona to LA) and when we get there we will be sleeping on a floor with other people around (large Chinese family reunion). My son used to sleep peacefully and now when he stirs he wakes up crying. Many nights have been very dificult since getting this bug. How long does it take for him sleep normally again. I don't want us waking up the whole household 5 times a night. Also, has any other moms out there gotten it? How long did it take for your fever/sore throat/mouth sores to go away? I have never been more sick in my life! Any tips would be great.

The best I could recommend is to get on VEMMA. Vemma is Vitamins, Essential Minerals, Mangosteen, Aloe and decaf green tea. The mangosteen has many healing properties, as well as the aloe. I highly recommend putting it on topically on the sores as well as taking internally. Go to www.mangosteenminerals.com and vmastories.com for testimonials. I am not trying to sell you something. I am telling you this stuff works like nothing else. If you would like to try it, please email me at ____@____.com can also go to my website www.myvemma.com/agapefitness.

NO SUGAR. That will destroy the immuen system and make this last longer, but no synthetic substitutes either. Immuplex works amazing for most viruses, but in this case, Cataplex F perles is best. You could probably take 4 and your son 1. You can probably find it locally froma holistic doctort. call Standard Process and ask for names and numbers of docs who order locally nad then call their offices to see if they have it in stock. It's like $9 and works like a charm.

(I too had 3 homewater births and breastfeed. ;) You go girl. I have never had an antibiotics or any other drug in my life and neither have my kids.)

Herpangine is a virus with no known cure so only time usually seven days in the duration then it clears up. Drink cold water (nothing hot like soup or coffee/tea) & plenty of liquids to stay hydrated then eat ice cream, puddings & jello nothing solid. It will take some time so this infection is usually caused by not washing your hands properly after using the bathroom or for instance while changing the kitty litter you still have fecal matter on your hands then touch your mouth by accident. Red eye flight from Cali.? Wow Try a 14 hour RED eye flight from Kailua Kona, Hawaii to Tampa, Florida now that's a REAL red eye flight not just 5 1/2 hours! Hope you both are doing well it's been years literally yet this disease makes you suffer not able to eat properly you will lose some weight. Not GOOD so take care of yourself it's contagious as you caught it from your son so keep your distance whoever reads this post. You'll need it in order to stay healthy & disease free of this hand & mouth disease! Aloha, Mahi

If you have never been more sick in your life and it's a viral infection, please don't get on a plane and give it to everybody else. Do you want everybody on the plane to be as sick as you? If so, go ahead. If not, call the airlines and delay your trip.

Hi J. - all 3 of our kids have had this...it lasts about 3-7 days. Our doctor told us to mix 3 cc of Children's Tylenol, 3 cc of Children's Benadryl and 3 cc of liquid Maalox, and give the mixture up to 4x a day. On top of this, I also gave Motrin every 6 hours to keep the fever down. It did help alot.

Re: flying...this unfortunately is a very contagious infection. I know it's hard to miss something so important...and I also know what's like to fly a 5 hour red-eye with a sick child. It's miserable. The concern here is this is a major virus (also can cause Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease) which is miserable for a child to have to endure.

I would wait until the day before you are supposed to leave and see how you guys are...and see your doctor to get his/her advice on whether or not you should travel. If not, you can get a note from your doctor and give it to the airline...they will postpone your trip if medically necessary (we've also had to do this and the airlines usually work with you)...

Perhaps you can just fly out a day or two later when the infection, and fever, are gone....that way you both feel better and no one else around you is at risk of getting this.

Good luck to you both - hope you feel better soon.

Hi J.:
Herpangina,is a viral infection, that seems to come out especially during the summer months.Because it is viral, antibiotics are ineffective to treat it.It normally lasts 3 to 6 days,so your son should be over it soon, and you should be feeling better by the time you leave for your reunion. The best treatment,is plenty of fluids and treatment for the fever and discomfort.Your son and you will obviously have A loss of appetite, till this is over.To prevent spreading this to others, continuous hand washing, and avoiding close contact are advised. For soothing purposes,I'd load up on some Popsicle's. I hope your both feeling better soon, and enjoy your trip.J. M

I agree with Becky please avoid getting on the plane and spreading this. If you did not have herpangina at the time and someone else did, would you want to be around them or have them risking everyone else's health on a plane or any transportation? If your child was in school you'd keep him home to spare the other children, families, and teachers would you not? And if you both are running fever's still this is when it is still very contagious! I have also heard when the mouth sores and sore throat are still there and are still painful, it is contagious still also. Everyones immune system is different some people can fight off things quickly, others take longer. I heard with Herpangina, the first time you get it usually will last longer than if you have had it before.

Please call the airlines and get a note from your Dr. if you need to so the airlines will know you both are very ill unable to travel and do not want to pass it along to other travelers, including the people attending the reunion. I know missing the reunion will be a bummer, but think of the other people traveling with thier children would you want to get their children sick too? Thank you for taking the time to consider others around you.

My daughter has had it a couple of times. It doesn't go away on its own and if it does it is just for a short time. You need antibiotics.
