Help! Hubby Got Laid off This Morning with No Warning!

My DH got laid off this morning from ATA Airlines with no warning at all! We got a 1 week paycheck and have health insurance until the end of the day. Any help and prayers would be greatly appreciated from you all. I am going to apply for government insurance for my kids immediately and some school lunch program. If anyone knows of any decent paying jobs that offer health insurance, please let me know! (Besides Starbucks and some other places, I mean a decent paying job for him, I will find one myself) He is an aircraft mechanic, but can fix or do anything. Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

My Husband works for ATMOS gas company..they are hiring NOW. I know the Farmer's branch location is hiring for sure. The have great benifits from blue cross/blue shield and cover the employee 100% and it starts the very first day of employment. You have to apply online on the Atmos website.

Good Luck!!!

If your husband is actually a trained mechanic, my husband might be interested in speaking with him about a job. My husband is a supervisor for a major natural gas company and is always interested in finding people with a strong mechanical background. He doesn't have to have specific experience working on natural gas compressors, but needs to have mechanic experience. Please respond with your husband's contact information and a little about his work experience if interested.

Here are two openings in Colleyville I am aware of..the Colleyville Chamber has an opening for a full-time events and programs Coordinator and Nestle in Colleyville is looking for an entry level manager. Maybe one of these would work for your husband. Let me know if you need more information.

Well I am unable to give you any firm ideas right now. My husband was also laid off the same day yours was. He is also a technician but on cars not planes. One thing we have been told and are looking into is oil companies needing techs. We have been told first hand from someone in the business that they always needs mechanics for different things. Normal sized vehicles like families drive to big trucks and equipment.

We were told they pay great and give you benifits with a company vehicle upon being hired. Now I am not sure how true all this is as we will not be able to find out until Monday. It is an idea though.

I will keep your family in my prayers and just know you are not alone. I also have a princess age 7 and an angel boy age 11. Stay strong, be patient with your husband, kids, and yourself. Above all keep faith. Always think through any offers as a desperate decision could backfire. This happened to us several years ago. You have my prayers and belief that all will turn out okay for both of our families.

My husband was laid off 2 years ago w/o warning and it was really painful. He found a job 4 months later that was even better than the old one.

Hang in there! My prayers are with you and your family.

My husband works for United Rotorcraft in Decatur. It is a helicopter company. He might want to call him. I don't know if they have anything permanent available but they may be able to offer him some temporary work.

Hi!

I am so sorry to hear that your husband was laid off. My husband was laid off in January and I was laid off from my company in February, we are fine becuase of businesses we have on the side, but I do know how scary it is. My best advice is for him to contact the Texas Workforce Commission and go to www.workintexas.com to start off with. The Texas Workforce will provide compensation for him and your family while he looks for a job and they also will help him find a job that matches his qualifications. Hope this helps!! Good Luck!

Very sorry to hear about your husband. However, just as an FYI, there is no way you can only have insurance until the end of today. It is illegal. They have to offer you COBRA legally...it is expensive, but it is insurance that is the same until he gets another job. As far as jobs, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys.

Usually insurance lasts until the last day of the month employment is ended. Double check on that to be sure. After that, COBRA is available but it is not cheap.

Have hubby file for employment benefits immediately and apply for CHIPS once the insurance has ended. That way, at least the kids have some type of insurance.
