Help for Daughters Lips

I have read many responses on here. I personally cannot tell when I am getting one. It just seems to pop up. No tingling feeling or anything. So in order to start a lot of these treatments you have to do it well in advance. I have found out that Valtrex is AMAZING!!! I am not on it regularly but my dermatoligist has a RX called in for me. You can take it regularly to prevent outbreaks but the healing time is so worth it. I can take it when I see a fever blister and within 2 to 3 days it is completely gone. No drying cracking or pain! I would definitly take her to a dermatoligist and see what they can do for her. Good luck!! I hope everything works out!

I would ask the doctor even if it is only by phone, but it can also be lack of B vitamins.

Not sure if she is lacking anything, you may want to call her dr. I found that using Blistex medicated lip balm works wonders, if she notices tingling just before getting them, put that on at the first sign and she shouldnt get the blisters.

She needs to take a supplement called Lysine. I use to have fever blisters all the time and someone told me about this supplement and I haven't had them since. It is a supplement that helps with oral herpes which are also called fever blisters. It works great.

L-lysine tablets worked great available at the health food store or maybe even walmart.

I have passed the L-Lysine advice on to several people, both men & women & once these folks got into the routine of taking the tablets daily, they do not have further outbreaks.

My name is L. and I am 29 and I have been dealing with fever blisters my whole life. I have found that I to was getting them bad when I was on my period or when I was pregnant. I also tried several different ointments and nothing seemed to help. I did some research about natural was of getting rid or even preventing them. I have found that taking Lysine daily well prevent bad brake outs. Now If I do have one (witch now it only happens once in a blue moon instead of once a month or more) it is little and it goes away with applying Ice the minute I feel it and for the rest of the day.

I tried the LLysene, but wasn't good about taking it! I finally asked a doctor and got a prescription about 15 years ago - now I almost NEVER get one, infact has probably been over 3 years. It is called Zovirax and is a prescription ointment. Actually treats the virus and lessens the outbreaks - if you put it on when your lip first starts to itch (can't even see anything yet), most of the time they don't even come! Anyway, I would reccommend asking your daughter's doctor about this. Good luck! K.

One of my docs gave me an RX for my herpes simplex. It is just an anti-viral. You might ask either her primary doc or her gyno if they would do that for her. My RX helps a TON!!

This is something I use to do every period. I had such heavy periods. I would also get them when I would go to the DDS. Anything that caused trauma to the lips I would get them. They are actually called Herpes Simplex and once you get them it is easier to get them later. All those kinds of things are caused from L-Lysine depletion. I still from time to time have to take L-Lysine when I feel one coming up. It is amazing how they disapear! I have to take 4 to 6 capsules at one time. I have not had one in years. They start, but as soon as I feel them I take the L-Lysine. So try them! Good luck

I get them when I'm stressed, pregnant or really upset. Lysine (with the suppliments/vitamins etc) has helped control them or herpicine L which is a cream. Like Abreva you start taking them as soon as you feel the sores coming on.

YEP! you gotta have it on hand - L-Lycine. Some people take it daily, but i just take it as soon as i feel one coming on. I actually pop a 500mg tablet every other hour the first and second day and then a couple for the next day or two depending on if the sensation goes away. I travel a lot for my job and this is one thing i NEVER leave home without. you have to keep it around and go for it the very second you feeling something.

I suffer from the same! I break out even worse during times of sickness or stress. L-lysine (over the counter vitamin) works great. I take three a day once I feel the beginning sings of a cold sore and most of the time they do not form. If they do, the healing time is cut in half. Hope it helps.

I used to get cold sores all the time as a teenager. The doctor said I would grow out of them as an adult and I did. She can take a prescription of Famivir that helps reduce the outbreaks. I also use prescription Denavir cream once I get a sore. It helps speed the healing. Another thing I found is that being in the cold weather gives me breakouts, so I always wear a scarf. Hey! I get a couple fever blisters every year. They are terrible torture... especially for teens! I use abreva often... but the best thing is L-Lysine vitimans. I have super 1000mg I bought at Walmart I think. It is just a supplement. I am no doctor... but i don't think you can take too much. As soon as i feel one coming on... before it even shows up (she will know what i am talking about) I start taking the lysine. Sometimes they go away before they even turn to a blister. Other times, I will still get a blister but the whole thing is gone within a week. I will take 2-3 pills for the first day and then at least 1 everyday after that. It might be something to talk to her doctor about... but it has never hurt me to take several a day. I only take them when i have a fever blister. Good Luck!

I used to break out with fever blisters all the time... There is a pill called l-lysine. If she takes one every day even when she doesn't have a fever blister it should keep her from getting them and if she does get one it shouldn't be as bad. It worked for me and my mother... I know it can be bought at wal mart and probably local drug stores also.

hello my name is D. and I'm 44 yrs old and i have been getting them for years and I have too tried everything. The only thing i have found to help is medication from my doctor It is Zovirax (generic form is Acycolovir) it comes in cream and pill form ( i perfer the pills) the second I start feeling one coming I start it and 9 times out of 10 it never even suface. But you have to have it on you so you can start it ASAP when you feel it comeing.My son sometimes gets them (he's almost 18) and he uses the medicine also. I just got over one myself and I decide to try that Aberva and it did nothing for me. So Good Luck

I'm sorry I don't have any real advice, but I had the same problem as a teen. I didn't get them with each cycle, but about every third. I never equated the problem with anything other than my period although a deficiency of some sort could certainly be the problem. Anyway, wanted to let you know that it occurred for roughtly two years and then stopped. No problems since college.

As a child and teen I frequently got fever blisters and cold sores. We finally got a doctor to tell my Mom and I what was happening. It turned out I had a severe form of the herpes virus that causes those. (it's NOT sexually transmitted, in fact everyone has a form of it) He told us that in time, as my hormones settled down a bit, things would get better, and they did. I would advise talking to your family doctor about the situation, as they might have something prescription wise that could help her. Wishing the best for you and yours!

I have been getting fever blisters since I was a kid. I have tried many things over the years, but recently I have found a couple very easy treatments. The medicines you buy actually dry out the fever blister which prolongs the process. What you want to do is keep it moist by keeping Vitamin E on it. Just poke a hole in the pill and put it on. Also you can have a dentists office lazer it. It doesn't hurt and speeds up the healing process. Also it actually kill the virus so once you have it lazered you should not get another one in the same spot. Eventually she will run out of room for them to pop up. Mine have always been triggered by stress fatigue or illness. I know you say your husband is tight with money. To get the fever lazered it costs $60 the initial visit then you go as many days in a row as you need to with no additional charge. It has been a life saver for me. I also got the info bout the vitamin E from the dentist. Hope this helps you.

I found a product in the pharmacy section of WalMart called Herplex that works for me. It's a bottle for about $9.00.

Hi, my name is J.. I am a 43 year old with two adult children. When I was 12 to 20 years old, I would get fever blisters every other week. My salt intake was what was doing it. I loved salt and I loved chips. I don't use salt in my cooking and I don't eat chips. To this day, if I eat a small bag of chips of any kind, I get a fever blister.

I had the same problem until I had children. I talked to my doctor about it and she prescribed a medicine. It was a pill that I took everyday to keep them from ever happening. I can't remember what it was called, but it might be worth a shot. I ended up not having to take it everyday, just when I felt like i was starting to get one. And I never got just one at a time. It was usually about 6 at a time. With the pill, I never got one.

I agree with a lot of the responses that Lysine is a great thing to try, but it still may not do the trick. If she is still having problems with outbreaks, then she needs to seem the doctor and they can put her on a prescription preventative of Valtrex. Abreva does work good, but it will not keep the fever blisters from coming and it will only shorten the life of the fever blister once she has it and that's if she starts using it as soon as she feels it coming on (the tingling sensation). this may sound off the wall, but does she take anything like Mydol for the symptoms? Maybe she is having a reaction to it. Have you tried the Bert's Bees stuff, it's made of bees wax, they have a huge selection of stuff I have seen them many places.

I have a daughter who is now 31 but she has a problem with this and someone told us to get lysene tablets and when she feels one coming on she takes it and it has helped!

My daughter and I take L-Lysine, a dietary supplement to stop the fever blisters. As soon as you feel one coming, you start taking L-Lysine and it will greatly lesson the fever blister. Sometimes they do not even form. You can find this at your pharmacy or health food store.

Your poor daughter! You know, I've used lycene (sp?) in the past. You can get it at Walgreens or Wal-mart or for a better brand, go to Whole Foods. Maybe your daughter's system gets stressed and so her body chemicals get unbalanced. I don't know. The blisters she gets could also be herpes simplex 2. I think that's the name of the virus that forms blisters on the mouth?. If that's the case, I've heard some people use Zovirax with great success. It's a prescription topical cream that gets rid of the sore in a few days when applied 3 or 4 times a day. Good luck!

She is most likely getting them b/c of the hormone fluctuation she's going through at that time of month. I used to get them all the time too while I was younger. Take her to the dr's and get her a perscription for Zovirax..its a creme she can apply throughout the day to the sore and if she starts applying it when she feels one coming on it will go away within a couple days. You might try a product with Lycene (L) in it. Lycene has strong anti-viral properties, and studies have shown that it helps prevent and/or quicken recovery from cold sores and even canker sores. We use a product called Super Lycene +, found at Whole Foods and Wild Oats, which has other immune system boosters in it too!

Yes, she may be lacking something and it very well could be hormone related. Sounds like she needs to go to the dr. For a check up.

Since the day I was born I had cold sores (fever blisters) almost every month. I learned that Lysine deficiency will bring them on easier and that Argenine in the diet from popcorn, chicken, peanuts...will also bring them on. SO you need more Lysine and less Argenine. Both are amino acids.
(You can take Lysine supplements)

It wasn't until about 10 years ago when I discovered enzymes that my cold sores finally stopped. Now I go years between outbreaks. I take an enzyme called Wobenzyme. It is made in Germany and you can get it at most health food stores. It can be used for digestion- to help break down your food, or to help keep the blood free from protein aggregates. It also helps in inflammatory problems. It is very safe and if you look hard enough, you can get it online for half price. It needs to be taken every day if possible. (Its the largest over the counter product sold in Europe)

A., it's probably not going to be any conolation to hear this, but I get a cold sore at least 1/2 the time when I am getting my period. Your daughter's doc can prescribe her some pills that will help if she takes the very first instant she notices that tingling feeling developing, or if she knows the day each month she's going to get one, she can probably start taking them the day or two before, to help make the fever blister start smaller than normal, but it's all viral, and there's not a lot that can be done. i would suggest getting prescription lip cream too, it helps a lot faster than Abreva or the other OTC kinds, for me at least. good luck!!

I used to get fever blisters all the time. Now whenever I feel one coming on I take Lysine. You can find it at Wal-Mart by the vitamins. I take 500mg tablets. When I feel one starting I take a couple then and a couple about every 4-5 hours later. This seems to stop it. I only wish I had known about it when I was younger. I am now 44. Some people just take a tablet a day. I only take it when I feel one starting. Hope this helps!

I get fever blisters now and again and the pharmacist (who also said she gets them) shared with me to take Lysine tablets (they are in the vitamin section of walgreens or your pharmacy/dept store). She recommended taking one-two tablets a day, when I have a fever blister I add a few more in. It replenishes some nutrient that seems to be lacking when they occur, talk to your pharmacist just to make sure someone that young can take them and there won't be any side effects for her. I haven't had any problems and it seems to keep the number of them down. Good luck!

When she first feels the fever blister coming on---apply "T-36-C-5" Melaleuca Oil, by the company, "Melaleuca" and do it a few times a day. It works for us. It seems like when your body is excessivly high in acid, the fever blisters come more often. Sugars, especially soda (even diet) make it worse.

My youngest daughter also had a problem with fever blisters. The one thing that helped was L-Lysine which is an amino acid. This should help. Take 2 pills the first evening and one a day till healed. It can be bought over the counter. God Bless you, J. Gleason

I dont know if you have heard of Arbonne or not but they have a product called Herbal Lip Ointment. It is just for this sort of thing. She can use it all the time- it will keep her lips moist or she can just use it a week brfore her peroid and then during and afterwards. It is suppossed to not only treat but prevent cold sores as well. I am an Arbonne rep, so if you have any questions I will be happy to talk to you about it. I am not trying to sell you anything- if you know of another rep then ask her about it. Also- you might try a Vitamin C supplement or a glass of OJ everyday. I know my husband gets those in his mouth if he doesnt drink enough OJ.
