Help for 11 Year Olds Hair

My 11 year old has always had hair issues. She can wash it and then go play for 5 minutes and it looks greasy and stringy already! She has straight/wavy blonde hair that is layered. I'm not sure what we're doing wrong in regards to it. It seems heavy on her head. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

You are using too heavy of a shampoo/conditioner product. Try prodcts for fine hair vs normal or normal vs thick hair. Rinse out VERY well and do not use leave in conditioners until you figure out the right type of shampoo/conditioner.

Try checking her hair after she is out of the shower, this can mean that she isn't rinsing it all out. Also try using a kids shampoo instead of regular, these are often easier on the hair!

I'm a hairstylist. When you condition it, only condition the scalp once a week. It still needs that conditioning, but not so much. Overwashing will also cause more oil production. So wash her hair with a gentle daily shampoo. Condition her hair from midshaft down to the ends, not on the scalp. Or better yet, skip the conditioner and use a conditioning detangling spray when you comb her hair out after the bath.

On days it's really bad, you can take a little bit of witch hazel on a cotton ball and gentle run it through her scalp. You can also get a dry shampoo to powder in her root area.

Like the other moms said, it could just be the issue of her not rinsing the shampoo and conditioner out well enough. So be sure that isn't the problem too.

Make sure she uses shampoos and conditioners specifically made to add or allow volume, and that she rinses products out of her hair completely. Heavier products can weigh the hair down. My almost 11 year old granddaughter has the same type of hair, it's one length to about the middle of her back, and switching to shampoos and conditioners to add volume helped her hair tremendously.

Maybe a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner will have lighter conditioner. I use that plus a light spray on conditioner/detangler for my daughter. She is 3 and has very fine hair that tangles easily.

Shampoo hair, but condition ONLY the ends. This works wonders for my hair, I have the same problem.

Use clarifying shampoo a few times a week. When I use the same shampoo for too long it starts to make my hair grimy.

Also, don't use 'smoothing' shampoos. Those leave my hair feeling filmy and gross.
