Help Finding a Good Home for a Good Dog

I have a Jack Russell Terrier. He's about 6yrs old, a great dog. Unfortunately he is not really comfortable around small children (we have an 11 month old). He is also not getting the attention he needs. We are considering finding him a new home, but are not sure where to start. I just want to make sure he winds up with someone who will take good care of him, and give him the attention he deserves!

What can I do next?

If you decide to find a home yourself, be very careful, as many not so well intentioned people will respond to newspaper ads.

First, you should probably talk to your veterinarian. Sometimes vet offices can place animals in good homes, or you can post something on their bulletin board. They might also be able to offer suggestions for organizations to contact as well.

You might try a local organization like beaks & noses: http://beaksandnoses.toydogrescue.org/ or the Animal Rescue League. You can start researching various organizations by looking at Petfinder.com.

Pending on where you live, your local newspaper has a section for pets that you can sell your pet. I live in Worcester and the paper there has a free section that will put your ad in the paper for a week at no expense to you that way instead of a shelter not always giving them a good home, you can meet with the people and se where your pet would be living. I had a Pit Bull and where i live now she really didn't have a yard and wanted room for her to run i posted the ad and now she lives in Wales and I can see her anytime I want and her new owners still bring her over to see my kids as they are older and still miss her.

I had a yorkshire terrior we gave up for adoption after 10 years lastyear. I had my son and couldn't take the dog where I live and my mother couldn't take on the responsibility by herself cause she worked full time. My father went online and found an adoption center that was through a local shelter. We met with the couple whom the wife had a medical condition and was at home all the time and just wanted a little companion to keep her company. We felt comfortable with them that they would give her really good care. That might be an option for you. Sorry, I don't know of the name or website.
