Help (Fast) for a Good Doc near St Paul....

My husband has finally agreed to see a doctor about his many medical issues, one of them being anxiety, and he basically needs a gen. doc who is good, won't just prescribe meds without actually talking to him, and isn't crazy! He's had really bad luck with doctors so far, which is why he's so hesitant. If one of you has one you really like, please tell me. The other thing is he doesn't have many days off with childcare available, so I'm shooting for April 3rd, which is why I said "fast". We have healthpartners insurance, but would go almost anywhere! Thanks!

My husband has seen Dr. Trehus at the Health Partners St. Paul Clinic (205 Wabasha St) and loves him. He is a family practice doctor and my husband went to him after not liking several other doctors. There is also a great counselor at the Health Partners Inver Grove Heights clinic - Marc Schiacappse (sp?).

My suggestion is Dr. Richard Schoewe at Assoc Medical Dental on Rice street off of Hwy 36 in Roseville. He is the only Dr in the office. He shares the building with a dentist, also Dr Schoewe. (his sister). He is with Healthpartners. He is mellow, takes things slow. Wants to be sure any medication is working correctly and likes to check on that often. He has a dry sense of humor. He may be worth a try. Call and talk to his office help Linda, who is also wonderful.
###-###-####. Explain what is needed, say what you did in your request to mamasource and Linda will help you and pass on the information.

Drs. Denise Long, Denise Lewis, or Mary Kay Touhy at East Metro Family Practice/Highland Family Physicians on Randolph AVe. are all wonderful. Dr. Tetlie at that office is also good to work with if your husband would prefer a man. I have the most experience with Dr.Long and have found her to be very cooperative, willing to listen and answer questions, open to new ideas, and very well-rounded in her knowledge. She is sometimes not taking new patients, which is why I mention the others in her office - but the ones I mention have also been excellent.

Good luck!

My husband is a GP and, although I don't like to boost his ego, he's a great listener. Unfortunately, he has Thursdays off. We know a lot of other good docs in St. Paul, though. I would recommend Dr. Houle at Healtheast Roselawn Clinic in St. Paul. He is so kind. I'm fairly certain your husband would be able to get in if you call Monday.

I don't know any Health Partners doctors, but Dr. Gurney & Dr. Montague at Allina Woodbury are female and very sweet... harder to get in to see. Dr. Macken or Dr. Rumsey at the W. 7th St. Allina clinic are very good listeners, but it's a residency program. Not sure if he's comfortable with that. And Dr. Clay at the Allina clinic in West St. Paul, also female and very good listener, but more difficult to get in to see quickly.

These are just some docs I know that have a gentle, understanding demeanor. Some are easier to get into than others, but they are not the types to rush someone through. I have never had trouble scheduling in a week or less at the Roselawn Clinic.

United Family Practice Health Center is where my husband and I have gone for nearly 15 years. My husband likes Dr. Rumsey. I've seen him also, and I think he's great!
###-###-####. If he's willing to see a female doctor, Dr. Laurie Radovsky Dr. Brian are both awesome.

They also have evening hours (until 8:00 pm) Tuesday-Thursday.

I've seen two male doctors at Fairview Lino Lakes Clinic - Dr. Loren Wilkes and Dr. Richard Bosaker. I felt that both were very willing to listen. They might be able to at least refer you to a specialist after listening. The drive out there is a little long (I'm in Roseville) but I've always been happy with the care there.
