Hi there. I walked into my toddlers' room on Saturday morning to the horrible smell of urine. By tonight, it is absolutley horrible! I have a bad feeling that after bath time on Friday that one of my 21 month old twins was running lose and peed somewhere on the carpet before I got their diaper on. I have no idea where it is...the whole room jsut stinks horrible.

How should I clean this? What do I clean it with? Can I rent a machine with a commerical cleaner or should I hire a professional? Do I need to scrub the whole floor by hand with some special solution? Please help....I feel horrible making them sleep in that sewage room!

Has anyone had a similar situation to this?

What can I do next?

Bi-O-Kleen Bac-Out - it is a wonderful product. It has enzymes that continue to 'eat' through organic stains and odors. I've used it on carpet stains caused by the dogs, on laundry stains, and on training pants. (I love many of the Bi-o-Kleen products!)

I suggest sprinkling baking soda over the whole carpet, unless you can find the spot. Then let it sit a half hour to an hour. Then vacuum it up. You can repeat this if the smell doesn't go away. When this happened with my son, I could get the spot right away so I used vinegar/water or simple green.
If you rewet the area it will bring the smell back, but if you are cleaning with the vinegar solution it should take care of it. I just have never put vinegar into my carpet shampooer, though I don't think it would hurt anything.
You might try washing the lower portion of the walls with vinegar/water also, in case it got there. I forget the ratio, maybe 4v:1w?
These cleaners should take care of it, you shouldn't have to buy anything special.

Try Nature's Miracle. It's natural and has enzymes that will break down the urine. You can get it at pet stores.

Try "Totally Toddler" Spray. It works on everything (clothes, furniture, carpet) and is for everything (feces, blood, urine, food). It's available at BRU and Meijer's. Good Luck!

My son has done that also! We have out own steam cleaner and that always helps to get thte smell out. We did use a pet solution. I'm sure renting one would do just fine!

Get your nose on the carpet and start sniffing. You will find the stinky area! Rub with white vinagar and water. Half a cup of vinagar to one gallon of water. I keep it in a spray bottle when my pets have an accident. Spray area until it is soaked. Then put down a towel, step on it to draw the water up. It will smell clean. The vinagar will neutralize the acid in the urine (the smell) and you will be thrilled. You are not masking the smell with something else. You will just smell clean.
Start sniffing!

Try kids n pets carpet cleaner . Put the concentrate directly on urine mess an let sit a little while. Then use wet vac and suck up liquid.I read it's better for urine stains to let sit a while for it to work properly.

Those sound like good suggestions. I'd like to add: many responded to my plea for help with my old dog's urine stains & the one that worked for me was a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda & dishwashing liquid. I'll look up the amounts & send another email with that info. She also suggested a black light to locate the stains. Good luck! It's 12 oz peroxide to 2 tsp soda & 1 tsp dishw liquid. Heidi gave me the info. It works beautifully!!

The best and chespest way to clean urine is with vinegar. Its naturally anti bacterial and the smell only lasts about a half hour then its very freah smelling. Possibly rent a cleaner and try that....I do it about twice a month and it works great. Best of luck!!

Try a pet cleaner. They have enzyme cleaners that are made to deactivate the pee smell and they disinfect. Just spray it on the whole floor.

I have handwashed carpet when I know where the area is. Use a towel to pick up the dampness. Lightly salt the area to help pick up extra moisture and smell. Then vacuum over it. Should help a bit.
