Hi, I am 2 days late for my period, and I have pretty careful. I did 2 pregnancy tests and they both came up negative. I did start Weight watchers for a week, but I got off it because I was starving, so I am trying to eat better. Do you think my diet might have something to with it? I am pretty regular, that's why I am stomped! Or maybe I could be pregnant, but I took 2 tests and they both came up negative. Any sugeestions?? Thanks for you help!!

What can I do next?

2 days is too soon to consider any of the things you listed. You're pretty regular, so after a week you might want to test, but its too soon.

Can't comment on your pregnancy question, but just want to say that I've been successful on Weight Watchers 6 months today and am very happy with the program. I am someone who is constantly hungry and loves food so if I can do it, I think anyone could. Perhaps you did not have a good understanding of the program (you should be eating healthier than every on it!() and the little tricks that make it easier to not be hungry?? I just want to encourage you if you want to consider doing trying it again. Hope everything works out OK one way or the other with both of these things!

i noticed that your daughter is only 10 months old. when my daughter was 7 months old, my period was 15 days late! i was starting to panic! i think it was just hormones being off. do you breastfeed? that can throw your cycle off, with the smallest change in feeding schedule. Your hormones are still wacky from pregnancy too.

on the flip side, my preg test did not show up positive until SEVERAL days after my period should have started when i was preg with my daughter.

A.,

You could be pregnant and its just too soon for the pregnancy tests to be able to detect the pregnancy hormone in your urine. I was told by my doctor that with a pregnancy test usually never get a false postitve, but a false negative is common.

It could also be stress or maybe you are just late this month. Good luck.

With my second pregnancy I took close to 5 pregnancy tests over the course of a week - all negative. The only test that came back positive was the doctor's test. At the same time, shortly after my second child was born I had a tubal ligation and had a lot of problems with a regular cycle (never did figure it out), at one point I was always late (anywhere from a week to two weeks) - we never did figure out what was causing it. However, there again I took a lot of home tests and doctors tests that came back negative. So, although I wouldn't be to worried about it, I would call my doctor and get their thoughts. They'll probably have you come in and take a test, but their generally a little more accurate (especially if they do the blood).

I got negatives on two pregnancies w/ home tests -- let the ob/gyn do a blood test...

Two days late is not long enough to get that pregnancy hormone concentrated enough in your body to detect. Wait until you are a week... maybe two weeks late. Then you will know for sure.

A big change in diet, or stress can cause irregularities in your cycle.

I know it's tough to wait, but taking a test this early ... you can get a false reading. When I was pregnant, I took one too early .... it was negative. I waited a week and retook the test and it was positive. I have a beautiful 18 month old daughter now! ;-)

Sometimes your body needs to "reset". I would say to wait another week and if you havn't started then... test again.
A week would not alter your cycle... It would take a bit longer on the starvation mode to do that...
I know that the waiting and worrying is very stressful... Stress can alter your cycle...
What will be will be... No amount of worrying will change that. :-)

The tests are very accurate. they may give a false positive but NOT a false negative. Once the HCG hormone is in your blood, its detectable. The test could be negative if the preg hormone is not high enough to be detected in the urine. Try again in a week.
Good Luck and God Bless.

Hi A.! From my expierence with over the counter pregnancy tests (even the more expensive ones)---they aren't always right. I took several tests with my first child, and they all came up negative. But I knew something wasn't quite right..so I took another. It was positive. And when I went to the doctor the next day..I was 5 weeks and 4 days pregnant! So it all depends on your hormone level whether or not the test will pick it up early. My suggestion is go to your doctor and explain the situation. They could do a blood test which would be MUCH more accurate. Good luck!

You just need to wait a week or two... then if you didn't start your period, take another test. It could be too early to detect the pregnancy hormone. Also, it could be dieting. Changes in activity and diet affect your body. Are you breastfeeding your baby?? That can also affect the regularity of your period.
Good luck

I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably the change in your diet that's throwing your body off. I would wait a week and then try another pregnancy test.

BTW, about Weight Watchers (not that you asked :)), I would give it another try. I've been on Weight Watchers since just before Thanksgiving and have lost 30 lbs. And you don't have to starve, you just have to really pick what you eat. When you focus on the "filling foods" you really aren't hungry. That said, you can still have a candy bar or an ice cream sundae once in a while (or once a week). Good luck!

Sorry this is a late response, but I can't access this page at work! Anyways, you may already know for sure by now, but I took a pregnancy test when I was 2 days late on my period and it was a very, very light blue line, so I took it again a few days later and it was definitely positive. So you may want to test again if you haven't already. If you are usually regular, you may be pregnant, but there is the chance that the diet could affect it, I guess it just depends on how drastic of a change it was from your normal eating habits.

I just wanted to point out that the person has it the other way around. You can get a false negative but never a false positive. If you test too soon there won't be enough HCG to detect on the test. I always test too early and then I find out if I wait a couple of weeks it turns out positive. Most tests though can test a few days before your expected period and are pretty accurate. Everyone's body is different though so I would do what others have said and wait a week and then if it is still negative I would talk to a doctor.
