Just wondering if anyone has had to meet any of the surgeons at PCH? Unfortunately, my 5 week old daughter has to have heart surgery by the time she is 8 months old to correct a very large heart defect. Please let me know. I am very scared and stressed over the thought of my baby girl having surgery. Any info or insight as to coping w/ this is greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I don't know anyone out here, but if you are in need of support and a friend I am here. I am also a sahm. I have one friend out here and it gets lonely. I have a 4 and 7 year old. It must be very difficult what you are going through. If there is anyway I can help I would love to.

My son went through open heart surgery when he was only one week old. The surgeon was Dr. Teodori. (At PCH). I would love to talk you through what is about to happen and agree with you in prayer about what will be. Please email me and I will give you my phone number so we can talk. God bless you!

My son had surgery at 30 hours old at PCH with Dr. Dimler (not heart surgery, but general surgery). He does continue to see a cardiologist at PCH, though, a Dr. Stock, who I love and trust completely! Good luck with everything, I will keep you in my thoughts.

Hello H., first let me say Iam sorry to hear you precious baby needs such a surg., you will be in my prayers. Second I have just recently started seeing Dr. Notrica at the pch surgery center. He is very good. I was send to him by several mothers who have also used him. The nurses are very knoledgable and very respectful. They made our visit very comfortable. Good luck and I wish the best of luck to you. My son is also having a pretty big surgery, on April 3rd, he is having surgery to correct his crossed eyes. I had the surg when I was younger and I am so scared for him to go through it he is only 2! Take care and if you ever need to talk or anything feel free to email me at ____@____.com

I can't imagine what it must be like to turn your child over to the hands of someone else and trust all will be OK. But I wanted to give you some personal health experience. I was diagnosed with kidney, colon and cervical cancer and just had surgery last week in Albuquerque.) They removed a lot. I was terrified. I have an eight year old and a two year old and my mom had died of cancer when I was eight. But the biggest thing I can tell you is that I got a lot of friends to help out, to sit with my kids and husband. I was in the hospital nine days. I think the support and the feeling that we weren't alone in all of this was so important. I felt a real sense of power greater than me working its magic throughout the last two weeks.

Put together every possible question you have for the doctors. And ask all of them. Nothing, and I mean nothing is a stupid question. Also remember your baby girl will know nothing that goes on. She will feel nothing and because she is young she will recover quickly and go on to live a good life.

I hear Phoenix Hospital is great. Your child is in great hands. Everything will be fine.

I am an RN and used to work in the PICU @ St Joes. (It was 4 yrs ago) at that time there was one main cardiac surgeon at PCH, Dr. Teadori. He is very good! He can be arrogant but if my kids needed surgery I'd definitely go to him. Feel free to e-mail me anytime. Good luck to you and your little girl.

What kind of sugery is your baby having? I have six month old twins, and they both had to have a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) Ligation when they were both just under a week old. This is where the blood in the heart is travelling the wrong way through one of the valves, so the surgeons go in and place a clip (almost like a staple) on that valve to keep blood from entering it. If this sounds like what your baby needs done, then feel free to e-mail me at ____@____.com , and I can talk to you more about it, and if you want, I can even send you pictures of my babies scars to show you what will happen. It's not as bad as it sounds. If this isn't what your baby needs, then good luck with everything, and still feel free to e-mail me if you just want to talk or whatever.

I can not answer your question from experience with this hospital but I can truthfully say that many babies have undergone heart surgergy over the past 40 yrs or more. Your doctor or heart association can probably answer many questions. Good luck!

H.,
We were from Phoenix and our son 3 1/2 years ago was born in Phoenix. We had to take him the PCH when he was 3 months due to a reflux problem; everytime he would eat, he would throw-up at least half his milk. We did not have to do any surgery but the staff that we came in contact with were wonderful. He had an MRI and some other tests done there. PCH is a great hospital and the environment there is very positive. PCH is one of the best children's hospitals in the West and she would have great care.

Well I have met a couple surgeons at phoenix childrens hospital.. My daughter had to go in for surgery on her eyes last year, not as scary as heart surgery but it was still scary for me knowing that she could have gone blind with the surgery.. Everything was great and all the doctors were fabulous..

Dear H.,
I have worked with many doctors in several hospitals and have found some of the best at PCH. My nephew was born at 30 weeks and spent the first 6 weeks of his life in the NICU at PCH when they were still at Good Sam. Everyone there is fantastic. I would take my kids there everytime if it was not so far away however in a life threating emergency I would make the drive. I will keep you in my thoughts while you go through this hard and trying time.
