My dh and I started our own biz a little over a year ago. We have 3 employees besides ourselves. I am looking for options on health insurance for small biz. I know one of the employees wants health insurance, 1 is uncertain (depends how much it will cost), and the other does not want health insurance. Can anyone recommned a few options (currently, I am looking at BC/BS, Humana and Unicare.. and others I should look at and/or try to stay away from?!?!

What can I do next?

Hi there! First congratulations on starting and running your own business. It takes a lot of courage and dedication! My husband owns his own business and when I left the workforce we went with unicare. They were a heck of a lot cheaper than cobra. However, you do have to keep an eye on them. The first 4 doc visits copays were supposed to be free, but we got charged for them. Had to follow up on that. But we found the price to be acceptable. Good luck!

My company works with individuals and small employers to obtain reputable and affordable health insurance. I would be happy to assist you in your search and answer any questions that come up.

All three of the companies that you are looking at are good companies - you could also consider United Healthcare for small group coverage. Another option depending on the health of the people interested in coverage would be individual/family policies that are list billed. This is sometimes a less expensive option. BCBS and Humana do offer list billing services.

Another cost savings measure would be to offer different plans so that each employee can take the plan that works best for them. You should also consider HSA's.

I would be happy to assist you and your company. Please contact me at ###-###-#### or via email at ____@____.com can also visit my website at www.wfinancialservices.com.

If I can not be of assistance to you, I wish you the best of luck in your search.

Sincerely,
Jessica

My husband and I also have a business with about 17 employees and we too had to look for our own health insurance. We went with BC/BS and are very happy with it. We do not provide our employees with health benefits, it's just too expensive. We took a higher deductible and it costs about $375.00 per month for my husband, me and our daughter. The only thing to watch out for, is that you CANNOT give birth to another child within the first year of being on the insurance, the birth wouldn't be covered but, if you get pregnant first, NO insurance company will pick you up so if your considering having any more children, you need to plan it so it's birth is after the one year aniversary of joining the plan.

When my husband worked for a small business we had Unicare and it was AWFUL. Their customer service was terrible. I also had a skin condition that I had gone to the dermatologist for years through various insurances and the visits were always covered. Unicare denied all the claims for it.
