My 21 year old daughter has had mind-boggling female pain (especially during menses) since she was a teen. A few years ago a Gyn told her it was due to endometriosis and that the only thing she recommended was to get on the pill. Over the past year her pain has gotten worse and worse. Finally, she went to a different GYN and they did an ultrasound yesterday. They found an ovarian cyst that is ENORMOUS. It runs from mid-ribcage to below her pelvis. He said he wants it out ASAP! The problem is... no health insurance. She doesn't live with me, and isn't in school so I can't cover her through work. How can we get this done?? Apparently, If it ruptures she could bleed out before she can get medical help, OR it could begin to seep and put her into septic shock like a ruptured appendix. We live in Texas, so I'm wondering what type of medical aide she might qualify for.

Could she go to John Peter Smith Hospital? I know they treat people without insurance, but I don't know if they only treat emergency cases (though this sounds like it could soon be an emergency). Though she may have to wait a LOOOOONNNGGG time to see a doctor, once she got to one, I've heard the medical care there is very good. I have a friend whose son is an emergency nurse there. I wish I had more information. Good luck to your daughter. I know this must be very scary for both of you.

I would contact the hospital she would be having surgery at. My bestfriend had to have surgery last year and she did not have health insurance. She spoke with the hospital and they told her about some program that she could try and get assistance with. She ended up qualifying and they paid 100% if her surgery, hospital stay and everything. It totaled out to be 18k when it was all said and done. We also live in Texas.

Yes, talk to the hospital and the OB / GYN's business mgr. and see what your options are. B/c there will be a charge from the hosp. and one for the surgeon.
For issues of a serious/ life threatening nature....they have options available to provide medical care.

Depending on her income and resources, she may qualify for state Medicaid. She can go onto the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and complete an application. I believe she needs to make less than $12,000 per year. If she has any children, her chances are even better. Good luck.

I would encourage her to her local county hospital. I think most of the time with things like that they have to take care of her. If you are Dallas it would parkland. I had a cyst removed yesterday and it was the size of a grapefruit and caused me a lot of pain. I think it had been there for a long time but the longer I waited to get it removed the worst the pain started.

Good luck and God bless.
