Peppermint oil is great for this! Dab a little on your temples, base of the neck and sides of the nose. You can get this in different strengths. Just remember a dab will do ya! It's strong stuff!

Before I use any over the counter meds, why don't you go to a doctor and see if you have a sinus infection. They are horrible and even cause my teeth to hurt!

I know about blood pressure -- that's why I don't want to ever get a cold anymore. Can't use those "symptom relief" drugs unless I'm very careful what they contain.

I read all of the responses and I do have to comment on some of them. First off, I would try some health food store remedies first. The saline/ salt water solutions are always a good idea, except for the blood pressure factor. Salt is always the first thing to avoid with high blood pressure, so this isn't something I would try. I personally have a lot of sinus related headaches myself, and I find that treating the allergies that cause them first is usually the best method. I get sinus headaches that last for days, and are similar to migraines. One good solution is a hot cup of honey-lemon tea. The warm steam with the honey and lemon helps to clear out the sinuses quite nicely. I hope that you can find the solution that works best for you.

You can also alternately put pressure with your index finger on the point of your forehead between your eyes, and then press against the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Do this for about 20 seconds. This subtly rocks the bone that sits in front of the sinus cavity and will help relieve pressure. Watch out though because it will make your sinuses drain! It really works.

If you are able to deal with a little salt, you can make a nasal spray out of water and salt. Boil a cup of water and add a teaspoon of salt. When it cools off, scoop it in your hand and sniff if. It sounds bad, and you get a real salty taste, but it helps clean your sinuses out.

My aunt dosed me with blue cheese on Triscuit when I got a sinus infection. Just a regular brick of blue cheese, spread on five Triscuit, morning and night for a week. It works because the "blue" part is penicillin mold, a natural antibiotic.

If you have an allergy to penicillin, try just a small amount first and keep Benadryl nearby! I've had a reaction to prescribed penicillin, and I have a friend who's allergic to penicillin, but neither of us have had any issues eating blue cheese.

If you have blood pressure issues, cut out the meat/fish, dairy and eggs from your diet completely. Focus on whole foods, as opposed to processed foods. Your blood pressure will go down within a few days at the most. You very well might not even need your blood pressure meds anymore, if you take any.

My husband and I run straight to the netti pot when we have a sinus headache! I don't know if you are familiar with them or not, but it really works great!
You can purchase a netti pot any any health food store, but lately i've been seeing them at walgreens, cvs, or even walmart. It looks like a small tea pot--you add lukewarm water and some salt to it and pour the water into one nostril while leaning over the sink. The water goes up into your sinus' cavity and out the other nostril. It sounds really gross, but once you get the hang of it, you will realize that you can't live without it!
My husband and I were scared to try it, but we are so glad that we did!

Also, there are herbal allergy meds that work well, which you can find at any health food store.

Another suggestion is to keep massaging the area to relieve some of the pressure, and keep a warm wash cloth on your face. That used to help me out a little before I found the netti pot.

Hope this helps!

I suggest you really researching natural
rememdies.
A naturapathic approach. Usually headaches
are a symptom of a pinched nerve, hormone
disruption, deficiancy of some kind.
There are some trained professionals in
town that have machines and processes to
evaluate your body head to toe to look for
deficiancies.
I have seen people cured from the addition
of chiropractory, the addition of EMF

L.,

Coricedene (not too sure how its spelled, sorry) is an over-the-counter medicine that you can obtain from the pharmacist. This medicine is specifically marketed to sinus sufferers with blood pressure issues.

And it works! :-) Since I know its not spelled correctly, the best pronounciation I can provide is core-a-see-din.

Be well.

I have suffered with this for years.

For immediate relief, wet a washcloth and put in microwave. Get the washcloth as hot as you can stand it. Lay the hot washcloth over your eyes and nose. Immedite relief!!!

The wet heat shrinks the sinus passages.

L.,
Hello, I just want to write you a little note to say I think that you should take your sinus headache serious. The reason I say this is because only a few short months ago I myself suffered from headaches. Lucky for me I have a smart doctor whom ordered a CT scan.On the scan it showed sinusitus. For me no amount of pain meds would relive my headache. I needed an antibotic to clear the infection. This maybe something you need to see your doctor about.Wishing you all the best.

I have used a warm compress over my eyes and face and that sometimes helps. Also, we have a Mary Kay product called Mint Bliss that is wonderful to rub on your neck and shoulders and even your temples. It doesn't make you smell like your grandmother but just enough menthol type fragrance to give relief to muscles and open sinuses. You can see it on my website www.marykay.com/jhfisher. Feel free to call me if I can help you in anyway. I can send products in the mail if you aren't local to me. I also do free pampering sessions.

Hi Lyguitta,

Here's a link where you can learn more about sinusitis and at the top right you'll find a link to treatment options.
http://content.nhiondemand.com/shk/HC1.asp?objID=100940&a... My husband takes alfalfa and Immunity Formula I.

Personally, I don't recommend prescription antibiotics as they all tend to strip the body of not only the bad bacteria but the good as well and weaken your immune system leaving you more susceptible to other problems. If you NEED to take prescription antibiotics, you really also should be eating lots of yogurt w/o preservatives or a good probiotic. More information here: http://www.shaklee.net/thewrightplace/product/20639

Nor do I recommend aspirin, tylenol, etc as they tend to hurt the stomach lining and there is also potential kidney/liver damage (when overdone). I keep a bottle of Pain Relief Complex to replace the above.

I hope this has helped. You can email me directly at ____@____.com

God Bless and feel better soon,

Here is what you should probably try: Coricidin HBP D Cold, Flu & Sinus.

Hey L.,
I've had sinus problems since I was a girl and in light of that I would try the following :
Drink Lots of Water_keeps the inside of your sinuses moist
Use Saline Nasal Spray-costs <$2 & can get most anywhere
During a headache-sit with a hot cloth on your face over nose/eye area AND a Cold pack on top of your head...
I don't know why it works, but it really helps.
Also, if you have had a bad headache-stretch your neck muscles-they get tense the longer you've had a headache Or the worse it is.
It's possible too that you might have allergies-it's about time for Ragweed :-( if you can get your Dr to give you a sample of an allergy spray (flonase, nasonex) I know flonase is Generic, so you Could get it much cheaper than some and most Dr's have the samples in their office so you could ask for one (if the Dr knows you well-2 :-) on your next visit. These are designed to help and not leave the sinus area (not supposed to raise blood pressure) and if you can get samples FREE :-) so if you can't afford to get the Rx filled right away they might help and not cost anything.
Hope this helps!

Netti Pots are great. I too have sinus headaches and lots of pressure. I get really choked up and can't talk well. After using the netti pot one time, my voice sounds more normal. Beware, when you use it you will need Kleenex to blow out what you are rinsing out. My friend's doctor told her to use kosher or pickling salt about a teaspoon to a quart of the hottest water you can stand and use a nasal aspirator (baby bulb) and uses that and quirt it up one nostril and then the other. If you use too much salt it would be drying to your sinus passages. Good Luck!

Sinus headaches can be prevented by treating underlying problems such as allergies and treating headaches promptly. In addition, using oral or nasal decongestants before flying, traveling to high altitudes, or swimming in deep water may help. Using a humidifier in the home if the air is particularly dry may also help prevent sinus headaches.
though, visiting a local health and herbal store will yield excellent suggestions on prevention and ideas for stopping your sinus infection.and headaches some over the counter does not get the whole problems and if doesnt touch the right thing like the headache. most over the counter stuff doesnt touch headaches like they are suppost to, tynol can if its not to bad and sometimes you have to take tynol, bufferin,Ibuprofenanything like that every 4 hours till its gone. I have migraines badly and and i have sinus plus allergys badly. and i cant get rid of my headaches of any kind over the counter unless i cetch it in the right oder of what its in i keep Ibuprofen around and my doctor had to give me perscription of fioricet.and i have to keep them refill, thats how bad they get,and every three months he sees me to get them refill he said its a must.
