HEADACHE REMEDIES??? What Do YOU Do to Get Rid of a Headache???

I have a terrible headache and I do NOT want to spend my evening suffering. I have taken 3 tylenol, had dinner, and some caffeine. Any other suggestions?! Hubby is working the ambulance tonight and it's me and the kiddos hanging out -- we were going to do a craft and play a game...but at this point it's looking like a movie and my pillow. :( Ouchy.

Exedrine Migrane is the only thing that works for me. And my headaches are not migranes. Just regular headaches.
Good luck.

Tylenol never works for me for headaches, I take goody's powder it works the best for me. a heating pad on my face helps me, but I have read that for most people a cold wash clothe or ice pack on the back of the neck help.

I'm sorry you are suffering from a headache!!

I drink a Coke or have sex - getting the blood flowing - I know, funky - but it works for me.

Another thing that works is a long, hot shower and hot tea...

I am sorry you are in pain! I hope something works for you!!

I agree with Christine J! Drink water! Put an ice cold pack on your head and neck-wherever the pain is stemming from. Advil usually works better for me for headache, but don't take that if you already took tylenol. Try to find a dark, quiet place to relax.
If the pain is in the top of your head, then that is a sign of stress/tension headache. If it is along your hairline and back of neck then it is usually muscle tension related. If the pain and pressure is in the front of your head through your nose and cheekbones it is sinus related. I hope you feel better soon!

I suggest water and a neck massage. Most headaches stem from dehydration (which Pepsi can make it worse) and neck tension.

Otherwise green tea with lemon helps sometimes for me. It tastes awful (to me) but it has worked!

Also, press the pressure point between your thumb and index finger. Sometimes that brings me relief.

Good luck!

One thing that helps me a lot is to get a tennis ball and lay on it. Alot of headaches I have had were rooted in pain in my shoulders. So often if I put the tennis ball on some of the knots in my back and just lay there it helps so much. Sometimes I try and roll the ball slightly, sometimes I just leave it in one place for a while then move it to another. I get it up under my shoulder blades sometimes and that is awesome!! It feels like having a deep tissue massage, and it's free! You can also put a tennis ball on each side of your spine and roll it up and down your back, soooooo good! This helps me alot. Feel better :D

Try Aleve.
It helps any kind of pain/inflammation. It is for 12 hours. Just 1 pill.
I like it.
Versus Advil etc.

Try massaging your temples or around your eye sockets.

How old are your kids?
Maybe they can massage your head, for you?
My daughter does. But she's 8. She likes to do that.

I ALWAYS get a headache right before my period and as it is ending. I drink a boatload of water or take Tylenol or drink a Pepsi(or any cola) Sometimes I just need to put my head down..a little elevated and then close my eyes.

Don't feel bad if tonight turns into a movie and pillow night with the kids. Snuggle up with them...they will enjoy the time with you.

Hope it passes soon!

Good luck and best wishes!

I get stress headaches a lot. I do a few things cause if I dont they will 7 out of 10 times turn into a migrane. If I feel it coming, I drink like seriously a half gallon of water, asprin and tylenol have no effect on me, so I dose up with 2 Ibuprofin, I dont like excedrin cause it cause me to be hyper and anxious which just adds to my headache, I drink one cup of coffee, take a hot shower, wrap my head in a warm towel, if you can get it I massage my shoulder or have somebody do it, and then I just sit still as possible in a dimly lit room. Watching tv will stress the eye muscles and that will make it hurt worse as well as reading a book. I would put on quiet relaxation mood music (Sky Radio.com free music, pick Relaxation channel!) either sit with eyes closed or just sit . It usually take about 20 minutes for mine to go away. I sometimes throw some odorless ben gay or icy hot on my shoulders as well.

You may need potassium. Low potassium often manifests as migraine type headaches. If you have any No-Salt substitute sprinkle it on everything you eat, even some in your coffee. I cook with it and we add it to virtually everything we eat. Low sodium V-8 is also a very good source of potassium. If you have some Gatorade on hand, it may help. It has minimal potassium but some is better than nothing. Most of our foods do not contain enough potassium to give us much benefit. The soils they are grown in are just too depleted.

I have an ear-pull technique that works for many kinds of headaches. Takes 10-15 minute max most of the time. I lay back with a pillow supporting neck and shoulders as restfully as possible, and begin pulling and squeezing my ears slowly and methodically. I look for tender spots and give them extra attention. Usually the tenderness will become less or disappear, and along with it, the headache. If after 10 minutes I haven't gotten results, I will fold my ears in multiple places, fairly firmly. Very few headaches survive that treatment for me, and it's worked for other people I've done it on, too.

Good luck. Sorry your head was hurting. Hope it's better now.

Execdrin Migraine works the best for me. If the headache is really bad (i.e a migraine), I take the medicine and try to fall asleep, even if only for a half an hour or so. When I wake up, it is gone. If it is not too bad, I take the medicine and go about my day and it goes away fairly quickly. Good luck!

I get all kinds of headaches for all kinds of reasons. Excedrine Migraine works for most of my headaches, unless it is a true migraine. In that case, only prescription migraine medication helps. Hope you find something that works. Feel better.

One more thing. Excedrine Migraine doesn't work so well for my daughter. She takes 3-4 Motrin (as recommended by her doctor.) It usually helps her.

tylenol doesn't work for me - I take advil. Also, sometimes if its a sinus headache I take sudafed with the advil and drink tea. That works for me for really bad headaches. Works the best when I take advil/sudafed at the onset rather than let it get bad.

I know people say heat, but I love a cold cloth...prefer ice pack, on my head with a headache. Good luck. I know how horrible they are.

Hydrate.
My first thing ("treatment") is to drink a half bottle of SmartWater. Unless I haven't had my morning cup 'o, yet. Then I drink my coffee and see if I need the water, lol.
I don't get headaches often. When I do, they tend to wax and wane throughout the day and before I get around to getting an Advil, I've forgotten I have one. Then it might come back later and eventually I might get around to the Advil.

I was getting recurring headaches about 6 months ago.... started having them every day and they would start as soon as I got up in the morning and didn't go away. When it became daily, I started looking for a cause. Went to my eye doctor b/c my prescription was 3-4 years old. My glasses were too strong! Got contacts (could wear them out of the office that day and until my glasses came in) and ordered new glasses and prescription sunglasses. My headaches disappeared immediately.

So... Hydrate. Advil. Sleep. Those are my 3 suggestions. But double check the warning label on taking Advil since you've already taken the Tylenol.....

I get headaches a lot so I feel your pain, and I'm very sorry that you're suffering. :( My biggest advice is PREVENTION. Figure out what your triggers are and avoid them at all cost. For me, sunlight is huge (I MUST wear sunglasses) and driving at night, or not getting enough sleep, and obviously stress. Anyway, if that doesn't work, then I take 2 tylenol with some water and go to sleep. Good luck to you!

I always drink a full glass of water, or two, and it gets rid of my headache. In fact, one time my husband and I both had a headache at the same time, and he took a couple of tylenol or ibuprofen with a sip of water, and I took no medicine but downed a couple of glasses of water. Twenty minutes later, I had forgotten I had even had a headache, and he was still waiting for the medicine to kick in.

Tylenol does nothing for headaches! I take ibuprofen and ice it for fifteen minutes at a time once an hour. Massage the neck, and between your thumb and index finger. If you get them regularly, try chiropractic care.

I ususally take 3 tylenol, then light a vanilla candle and get in the shower (lights off in the bathroom) and let the steam and hot water (as hot as I can stand it) hit the back of my neck and head for as long as it takes. Usually within 10 minutes, I can tell a difference.

Head On! I used to think it was the corniest thing after listening to the commercials, "Head On, apply directly to the forehead!" But then one day out of desperation I bought it and tried it and was amazed. It is like having an ice pack on the inside of my head. I use it in combination with tylenol and Motrin. Works well on migraines also. Hope you feel better.

Water may work. Heat actually opens blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can actually make pain work (although at times I swear it helps anyways, lol) I had migraines pregnant, and obviously had to watch what I took and found that 1 excedrin, 1 tylenol and a mt. dew would solve the problem.

Most of the time, I just call my chiropractor and get adjusted. I've found it is much more effective long term than anything else and it keeps me from popping pills. Even to much tylenol can make you have more headaches. I'm 6 months pregnant and still go once a month and call then if I'm in pain in between. My kids all go as well, even the 11 month old.

Too much caffeine can make it worse. When I get bad headaches the only thing that helps is rest.
