My 5 year old came from preschool with lice. Now my 2 year old has it and I might have it too!!!! We've done the shampoos I'm picking them out which is not easy on a 2 year old or 5 year old for that matter. My husband does not have the patients to help with the kids and then look thru mine. Is there something I can put on to make the lice die quickly? Please I need help!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I spent every night for an hour or so for about 5 days picking out lice and eggs by hand and finally decided to smother their heads in baby oil. Which happened to work. It took about 4 days of hair washing to get it out but it worked. My doctor told me to try mayo, but I could not ge past the smell or thought of it, but she said the oil would do the same thing. Thank you for all your help.

Get some RID at the drugstore. There may be some other brands too. It's a kit with shampoo & comb. You have to take them out with a fine tooth comb, eggs and all. The kids need the shampoo too..good luck....I feel for you-it's a horrible experience! If you don't mind my asking, which preschool?

We had lice about a year ago. We used the natural lice product at Walmart. It worked great. Your body will work to fit the lice as well. I have read that eating garlic will help. We also rinsed every night with vinegar (prevents re-infestation) and combed through at least once a day. I recommend doing some searches through the internet. You may want to mention natural/alternative or you may just get adds. Go luck.

When I was little with long hair my sister and I got it everytime it went around the school. Ask the Dr I remember my mom got a strong shampoo by perscription. I don't know if that is the case anymore since that was years ago but maybe a quick phone call to the nurse can tell you. It is not an easy road you have to wash everything....good luck sorry to hear that I hated it big time and I was 8 at the time.

I had a friend that had a hard time getting lice out of her daughters hair and she ended up dying/coloring it. She said it worked.

My daughter caught it once from daycare and I remember the Pediatrician told me to put Gel or hairspray in her hair to prevent them from coming back. They don't like products in the hair because they can't latch on. The only way to get rid of it is exactly what the other ladies have said. Shampoo alot and buy the RID products they work wonders. Spray everything and anything. Good luck to you..

Hey A., you just have to keep shampooing. Use it and then wait 2 weeks and use it again. WASH EVERYTHING! HOT WATER, lysol helps but there is also a spray for furniture. Its a pain, and its expensive to buy the stuff, but you will never get rid of it if you dont take action right away! Cut the hair, use thinning shears as well, this will eliminate some of the hair you have to go through. After all, fall is coming, and its about time for a new hair do anyway, right?! Good luck...

My niece got head lice and then my girls got it as well. You have to wash EVERYTHING in hot water pillows, bed sheets, towels etc. They sell this spray that you can spray over your pillows and comforters. I used everything, I also used vinegar, I know it smells but it works and I used three shampoos, I know they say to only use it once and then two weeks later, but I can't. Also when my daughter got it I cleaned and pulled them out twice a day and they have long girly hair.

my daughter once had lice. I almost went crazy from it. I finally went to a place called "Lice Source"... it's a bit costly but well worth the piece of mind... they got it out!

If you want to try Kerosine it works very well, but it does dry out their hair and smells really bad, and you can't smoke around them for awhile.
