So What Happened?

I agree that locked doors are optimal! As a matter of fact, when one of us locks the door behind them, it's a clear signal to the other that it's "time" It's to the point where the sound of a locking door is so associative for us that it's a turn on in itself. :) However, even the best laid plans.... Last night we stayed up late watching a movie and the kids had been in bed for hours. So, when romance overtook us and we found ourself in passions embrace - well, crap! we forgot to lock the door! A short time later I turned around to see my 4 yr old standing in the doorway. I could've cried. There was no excuse. There was no way to play it off. Dad went and tucked him back in and talked to him. My son asked what we were doing. My husband told him "mommy and daddy love each other. I was showing mommy how much I love her in the way that only grownups do." He asked why and my honey told him "thats how babies are made and mommy and daddy love each other and love you and want to make a little brother for you" Well I don't know if that was right or wrong. It was the best he could come up with at 2 in the morning in his boxers! I'm so embarassed and I really hope I didn't scar my little guy for life. I walked in on my parents and it's seared into my brain. But I was 12 and should've knocked! lol

Nope, but I have on my parents around the age of 4. I can remember it too, but it wasn't very traumatic. I can remember being concerned for my mom, since my dad was a BIG (as in obese) guy and the she explained to me that he wasn't squashing her and that they were "making love". I don't remember much more and it wasn't very traumatic.
Good luck!

My DD came in, in the middle of the night when we were in the middle of things (very quietly). I turned my head & there she was just staring at us.... of course, I pushed Dad off of me and started to laugh saying stop tickling me. DD just looked confused, but I think she bought the tickling bit. I don't think she remembers that night, she never talked about it. We remember it and ALWAYS LOCK THE DOOR now!

My son has never walked in on us- but I am told that I walked in on MY mom and dad when I was about 4. I have NO memory of it at all, so it must not have been that traumatic!

My mom told me that mommy and daddy were 'playing a sled game' and that daddy was being the sled. LOL. (You picture it and figure it out!)

Needless to say, it was my mom that told me this when I was an adult. I am POSITIVE my dad would never mention it, lol!

i WALKED IN ON MY PARENTS WHEN i WAS 5 YRS OLD. i REMEMBER MY MOM WAS ON TOP. MY MOM THEN SAID VERY CALMLY "GO IN THE OTHER ROOM DEAR, YOUR DAD AND I ARE TALKING AND WILL BE IN IN JUST A MINUTE". JUST TO LET YOU KNOW. I AM NOT SCARED FOR LIFE. IN FACT, SOMETIMES I LIKE TO TEASE MY MOM ABOUT IT. IT IS A PART OF LIFE. WHILE NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THERE PARENTS DO IT, IT DOES NOT SCARE OR HURT THE CHILD IN ANY WAY. I AM LAUGHING ABOUT IT AS I WRITE THIS. I THINK I WILL CALL MY MOM TODAY AND TEASE HER ABOUT IT.

Lock the door, that's what we do and it is very effective. First set the kids up with a game or movie first. Works everytime for us.

I haven't had our child walk in on us but locking the door is a good idea. If it makes you feel better, my DH and I were caught by my father whom we had lived with him for over a year while saving for our home and nary a hint on our part that whole time. We were discretion itself. Of course, it just had to be the complete opposite when he came to stay with us for a few weeks while he remodeled his house. We weren't being quiet because we didn't think he'd be home for a dinner. Surprise! Fortunately we had the door closed. That episode led to some very awkward, silent dinners since a grown man knows exactly was going on. Sigh...now where is that giant hole in the ground when you need it?

I actually asked this question on here about a year or so ago. One of my daughters did and i was mortified. The mothers on here were so nice. Some shared their stories and others applauded us for having a healthy sex life :) We have been EXTRA careful since then...lol!

So far, thank goodness, no. I think my daughter would freak.

If she did, I'd be as honest as I could about it. She's 7 and she and I will have to have that chat sooner or later... Preferrably later. I'd be as clinical as possible but relate it to being in love and married.

My son is only 2 so we're not at that stage yet.

Yes, my DD walked in on us about 2 years ago when she was about 7. (we definitely lock the door now!) We we're side by side and it was summer so I told her I had my shirt off because I was hot ;-) So hard to come up with excuses in the moment. The thing is, every now and then she will bring up when I was so hot that I had my shirt off. Eventually she will figure it out, and then she will probably be too embarrassed to bring it up again... But your son being 4, I'd be surprised if he really remembers it. How much do you remember from when you were 4?

Yes! Our door was locked but apparently something was wrong with the lock and the girls then 9 and 6 walked in on us in broad daylight!!! They were giggling and asked us what we were doing. I told them to leave and I would be out in a minute. I got a robe on and luckily I had a book about sex that I was saving for my oldest daughter. I asked her if she would rather read the book or for me to explain what was going on. (She is very private) She took the book out of my hand and went to her room. I then explained to my six-year-old that we were hugging. Then she asked, "Why were you naked?" I then explained that it feels good to hug that way but only mommies and daddies should do that. She just thought it was funny. I then went upstairs and asked my older daughter if she had any questions about the book. (She didn't) Needless to say, my husband fixed the lock on the door and we got an additional lock at the top of the door. Very embarrassing.
